Samba PDC, ldap or mysql????
Hi all,
I'm under the gun to rid ourselves of the nt4 PDC which we
currently use. options are A/D, samba, pgina. I really dig pgina,
but dont think I can pass citrix credentials properly :( So I'm
left with samba vs A/D. A/D is well,, ummmmm A/D, so tyring to
avoid it.
Currently have used Samba file servers for years.
Have played with Samba PDC with2.2

Editing file changes its owner (Samba 3.0.7).
Hello !!
When a user edits a file belonging to another user and then saves the
file he becomes the owner of that file. Both users belong to the same
group and the file can be read or written to by the group members.
Server: Red hat 9, kernel 2.4.20-31.9, Samba 3.0.7, unix extensions
enabled
Client: Red hat 9, kernel 2.4.20-31.9, shares mounted via smbfs or cifs
(the same behaviour).

Definitive Samba 3.x/LDAP docs?
Hey, all -- I'm looking to do some LDAP/Samba 3.x integration. I've found
a bunch of docs, but a lot of them either are outdated, incomplete, or
reference materials I haven't been able to find. Is there a
one-stop-shopping document I should be looking at?
Thanks!

3.0.10 to 3.0.20 transition problems ...
Dear all..
I moved my samba server to a new linux box (faster, bigger, etc..),
and I moved from Mandrake 10.1 to 10.3 (mdk 2006).. I just copy my old
configuration file to the new linux box. The new linux's distribution
comes with samba 3.0.20... ( In my WinXP's clients I didn't change
anything). Of course, it doesn't work.. My clients can't connect to the
new samba server...

Ok. Hi everybody. It's my first posting here. If I make something wrong,
please notice me . And excuse me for my evil english (I will improve :-) )
.
I'm trying to upgrade samba from 2.2.4 to 3.0.14 version and I would like to
use the same smb.conf that I had. But something looks wrong in printing
system , there are a lot of new options and I don't know why my old

SuSE 9.3 samba binaries FUBAR??
Mates,
I dunno if nobody else is using the samba binaries to put 3.0.20-1 on
SuSE 9.3 -- or -- if I'm just doing something stupid, but there seem to be
library problems. Specifically, we are getting library errors for the *.so.2
libraries, regardless of whether we try via YAST or RPM.

Hello everybody,
I was installed a lot of PDC under Linux Debian, here in my country, but
i have a requirement from a client who wish to install a Primary Domain
Controller with at least 30 Windows NT Backup domain controllers in all
regions of his organization. I'll like to know if it is possible and
where i find more information about a possible solution for this.

"net rpc vampire" and filling userPassword
Hello,
recently we succeeded in doing a test migration from NT4 to a samba
BDC with LDAP. The LDAP directory is now filled with machine, group
and user account information.
My question:
as I have set the smb.conf parameter "ldap passwd sync = Yes", I
would have expected that "net rpc vampire" would also set the UNIX
password of the LDAP user account entries, i.e. the

Open Comment to John Terpstra
John,
It's great to see you on this list. I'm a Samba newbie and recently
found your book, "Samba-3 by Example". I must say this is the best
written "how-to" type of book on any subject I have ever seen. The
various examples fit a number of categories and answered so many
questions for me. I just wish similar books were available on other
applications.
I just

NT4 to Samba 3 domain transfer
I'm in the process of following John's excellent instructions for
transfering an NT4 domain to Samba 3.0.20 running on 2.6.9-gentoo-r6 on
an Intel box.
Most things seem to work fine apart from the transfer of the machine
accounts. These do not get moved because as retrieved from the NT
server the name is in upper case and adduser refuses to add names in
upper case, so I get the

Error setting up Samba with LDAP
I am following the Samba 3 How To and Samba 3 By Example to set up a

I get this error:

winbind doc error?
Hi People: In the how to posted on ..
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/winbind.html
The docs says several times to the option -B in the winbindd , but I
can't find anything on the manpage about that switch and I can't notice
any difference by using it.
The docs are outdated? or my 3.0.24 dosen't have this feature?

User list
I have a samba server setup with LDAP. Before I was using LDAP, I could
get a list of users and groups with my perl script by using the getgrent
and getpwent routines. I cannot use this anymore, because for some
reason, these routines do not see all of my users. They only see up to
a certain point. If I do a 'getent passwd' from the command line, it
only shows up to certain number of

same sambaSID
Hi,
samba 3.14 with ldapsam, working fine.
I tried this usrmngr.exe thingie because one of our admins is very
gui-oriented, wanted to see if it worked fine.
For most users, it is. I can change details, logon hours, groups, passwords.
But for 3 of them I get this message:
ldapsam_getsampwsid: More than one user with SID
[S-1-5-21-3707708495-1570892323-1667890705-3076]. Failing. count=3

Can samba map between existing Windows (SID) users and existing unix (UID) users
Hi again,
This is a follow up to a previous e-mail, but no luck so I have done
some more digging.
I don't understand why it is so difficult to map between a existing user
on a Windows Server (SID)
and an existing user on a Unix/Solaris (UID) user, since all information
is available?

OT: SUSE 9.3 and NICs
Folks, I realize this is off topic, and if anyone can suggest a
better source for the question, I'd be glad to go there. Novell
SUSE's support is unresponsive, however.
My problem is this: I'm running 9.3 Pro on an Intel server board that
has two NIC chips built in (a 10/100 and a GigE). I've since added a
Netgear GigE NIC. However, every time I reboot, the NICs assigned to
