Current status of OS/2 eCS client to Samba 3.0.20b
Subject pretty much askes it all. For those that run OS/2 eCS against Samba servers on a regular basis... looks like I might have to head back in that direction. I am trying to avoid NetBIOS which means the usual SrvIFS I would prefer to have go bye bye once and for all. I did get SrvIFS-IP from the "Beyond DHCP" RedBook yesterday, but is has memory corruption on the server daemon side

Simo still doing deb's at samba.org?
I happened to check if there are current Debian .deb packages for 3.0.20a at samba.org, only 3.0.14a in the directory. Will this be updated, or has there been a change in operations behind the scenes? Anyone know of a good open-source PHP accellerator that works with CentOS 64-bit?
Can you recommend a PHP accellerator that works with my CentOS 4.2 64-bit version? If it's possible, I'd like to find one that is actively updated. Thanks, Ron Jones Alpharetta, GA

MS DOS 7 XCopy copies the same file over and over
We use MS DOS 7 ala Win98 SE and the M$ client for DOS to logon to Samba 3.0.13 Debian Stable package from samba.org. Also one other unique thing, we have XCOPY32.EXE copied as XCOPY.EXE thus it is really XCOPY32.EXE we are executing, just as XCOPY.EXE. ;-) Example of failing line of code... echo f|xcopy u:\foo\bar.txt h:\file.txt where U: is the drive mapped to the server and H: is a local RAM

Someone with "Access Denied" from Windows pls try this test to compare notes with me
Long day yesterday for us here, first production implementation of Samba has to be rolled out and the client's old network reinstalled... cause: this "access deneied" issue which seems to be randomly affecting Samba implementations and from what I can see folks say Samba 3.0.2 was the last good build. If that describes you, please test this as I have come up with a way to turn the

Who builds the Debian packages?
Is there a different group building the Debian packages which are at samba.org than debian.org? I see debian.org in unstable has rebuild the 3.0.6 three times now, samba.org is still showing an initial build. Also, the directory structure lables the deb files as "stable" but debian.org still has Samba 2.x in stable. This all is just "slightly" confusing. I am running the

Windows client domain member getting incorrect value for LOGONSERVER
Greetings again, Michael Lueck wrote: > > Question about a hard spot we encountered... one Windows machine joined to the domain is insisting on setting its LOGONSERVER to its own hostname rather than the PDC it logs into. See example: Seems the root of the difficulty is that the Windows clients are only partially joined to the new server PDC. Plugging them into the former PDC server

Why do un-groupmap'ed Unix groups show up in Windows?
Typical Linux Distros add all sorts of Unix groups to users when it creates them, like cdrom, floppy, dialout, audio, etc... Logging in to the domain from Windows with an account that has such membership over on Linux... "ifmember.exe /list" shows all of those memberships. Why exactly? I would expect only the groups I did a "net groupmap" on would be considered by Samba.

3.0.24 What commands must be executed by root verses ntgroup="Domain Admins"?
I found the solution, or at least a work around, for my posting: "Can not grant SeMachineAccountPrivilege on Debian Etch" I ended up: 1) ssh to Debian Etch as root 2) smbpasswd -a root 3) issue the "net rpc rights grant ..." command SUCCESS!!! So, that raises the question that what MUST be executed as user root verses a member of ntgroup="Domain Admins"? I suspect

Mounting to the home share with Linux client, what syntax, etc...?
Greetings- Using Ubuntu 7.04 as the client OS, I am pondering how to automate a bit of "drive mappings" as I did previously with Windows. 1) What is the syntax to mount the user's home share? If possible I would like to variable'ize the username, or not even have to specify it at all. (Assume the user's Linux and Samba user names match.) 2) Suggestions / best practices of

Recovering Windows computer account string
Greetings- We utilize the smbpasswd text file back end. One machine (VM machine) suddenly thinks its entry in the Samba PDC's smbpasswd file is no longer correct. Is there a way to fetch that number back out of a Windows 2000 workstation and "paste" it into the smbpasswd file to re-trust the workstation? Thanks! -- Michael Lueck Lueck Data Systems

Sending / Receiving WinPopup on Ubuntu Linux Workstation
Greetings- Perhaps slightly OT, but still involving the SMB/CIFS protocol: I am searching for an application which would allow a Linux client (Ubuntu) to send/receive WinPopup messages. The only one I have located thus far is LinPopup. However, it depends on the Samba (server) package. I do not want to deploy a bazillion Samba servers! TIA! -- Michael Lueck Lueck Data Systems

Repository for latest Samba 3.x packaged for Ubuntu Trusty 14.04?
Greetings, 10 years ago, I utilized Samba official repositories for Debian Sarge to always run the latest Samba code while the Samba PDC support stabilized. I am not quite ready yet for the Active Directory world. Ubuntu Trusty 14.04 is the latest LTS (Long Term Support) version. It comes with Samba 4.x code. Is there a repository with packages regularly maintained for Ubuntu Trusty 14.04 of

Ubuntu 12.04 samba update
Jeff Sadowski wrote: > When ubuntu 14.04 went from samba 4.1.6 to 4.3.8 it killed my setup. I face the same sort of issue with Ubuntu 12.04. The Ubuntu security updates this week have killed the ability to log on to the Samba NT4 style domain from back level Windows clients. Our configuration does not have any LDAP, we run with the smbpasswd passdb backend. Just very simple. Anyway, here is

Windows client domain member getting incorrect value for LOGONSERVER
Greetings, We migrated to new hardware our very first Samba PDC we built back in 2004 this past weekend. Now that Samba PDC is on its third set of hardware since being built. Bravo Samba team for all the hard work you do so our lives may be vastly simplified! The last server started out being loaded with Ubuntu 9.04, and we had upgraded it all the way to Ubuntu 16.04. Can not grant SeMachineAccountPrivilege on Debian Etch
I am testing out Debian Etch, and ran into an issue granting SeMachineAccountPrivilege to an account... which granting that permission had been troublesome in the past. The command I am issuing is: net rpc rights grant LDS-DEMO\\ldsinst SeMachineAccountPrivilege And I try running the command with an account that is a member of the "Domain Admins" group. The command returns: Failed to

Wrong perms on new files/dirs using smbmount
Greetings- I am working through coming up with a Linux client integration to Samba PDC's. I mount several shares with this sort of syntax: /bin/mount -t cifs -o credentials=/home/userid/.smbcredentials,uid=userid,gid=userid,dmask=0777,fmask=0666 //ldslnx01/data /mnt/ldslnx01/data/ However when I create new files/dirs on the Samba share from the Linux workstation, the perms are not 0666/0777

Checking effective group membership - Linux side
First off, on the Windows side I use "ifmember.exe /list" to check the group membership in affect for the currently logged in domain user, works like a charm. However, Linux side is another story, specifically the net command. We have, among others, the following mapping in place: net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadmin Based on this documentation:

Q for folks using Samba with XFS
For several reasons we switched over to XFS, which is from what I have heard the favorite file system of the Samba project. Anyway, it has built-in backup / restore programs which I am trying to get working properly. No matter if I tell xfsdump to backup a directory which does or DOES NOT exist, it always complains that it does not exist. I just wondered if anyone ran into this error situation
