Unified logons with winbind and tdbsam backend
I am trying to setup unified logons to my VPN users. My goal is to get rid of chap.secrets file and use winbind to authenticate against tdbsam password backend located in the PDC (Fedora Core 1) running with Samba 3.0.21pre1. I have tried with older Samba versions without success. Using winbind should allow password changes from the Windows XP Pro -client using CTRL+ALT+DEL. Smb.conf,

wbinfo and 3.0.21pre1
Hello we are facing issue to check the membership of some users in AD groups (for winbind). When using the script wbinfo_group.pl, we had not the same result for the same couple "user group", if we lauch the script several times. We've noticed in particular that the wbinfo -r command sometimes sends back the list of group, but the next sends backs nothing (again, while using the

Can Samba be used to push out updates and hotfixes to client PC's
I have the Official Samba 3 and Samba-3 by example books, although not the second edition copies. But I can't seem to find out how to push out patches and hotfixes with Samba. Is this not possible at this time? I don't have a lot of experience with Windows but I am going to have to deal with this issue soon. I think I understand that pushing out policies is possible. Is Microsoft

[Possible BUG] Samba v3.0.20b and permissions POSIX/Samba
hi list, i experienced a weird behaviour of samba in the latest versions (3.0.20[a,b]) on XFS: directory: /data (owner=iso, group=edv) permissions: 2770 if i put a file in there with permissions 644 (owner=root, group=edv) i cannot delete it. windows tells even tells me, that it's readonly (read only bit set). and that's the only difference: 3.0.14a doesn't show the file as read

Odd problem with samba v.3.0.20b
Hello list, I have recently updated our companys fileserver from version 3.0.13 to 3.0.20 and shortly afterwards to 3.0.20b. Since then I have a prolem with my shares, at least the logs state that there is a problem :( The server acts as a domain member server. The domain is controlled by a Win2000 server, the clients run WinXP and Win2000. here a short passage of one logfile: [2005/10/24

Microsoft hotfix MS04-011, breaks Samba password change.
Hi all, I wanted to give an update on this as I know this MS Hotfix is critical and must be applied to protect against the (latest) Microsoft worm. I think I've found the problem in the code, and am currently testing a fix for this (not in the release to others to test stage yet). As soon as I'm reasonably confident I'll put a patch out there for others to test, and we'll

Windows 2008 SBS suddenly disappearing on Xen 4.0.0
Hi all, when running Windows 2008 SBS on Xen 4.0.0, it disappears after some time (longest time I had it running was 20 minutes). In /var/log/xen/qemu-dm-win1.log I find: xc_map_foreign_batch: mmap failed: Cannot allocate memory xc_map_foreign_bulk error 12 Anyone any idea how to troubleshoot this? The Hypervisor has 16 GB of RAM, currently 2 GB are allocated to Dom0. This specific DomU has 8

smbmount shares not lasting
I've got a machine running RedHat Linux 6.2 on a P-II400 with 256MB of ram. I'm mounting shares in the manner 'mount -t smbfs -o uid=user, gid=group //server/share /mount/point'. The server is a genuine NT 4 server, with SP5 and a couple of hotfixes. I mounted a couple of shares yesterday, and overnight the stopped working. When accessing the share, I get an error message that

Too slow to open shares.
More information: When I try to access the share by "smbclient //server_ip_address/share_name -d 10" from another Linux box, I saw some errors(warnings?) like "Doing spnego session setup (blob length=16) server didn't supply a full spnego negprot" Juer -----Original Message----- From: Juerlee (PLS CN) [mailto:jlee@plasmon.cn] Sent: Tuesday, November 29, 2005 17:14 To:

Share file permissions
I have not been able to find this exact problem on the mailing list; apologize if I missed it. I have tried both samba versions 3.0.20 and 3.0.21pre1. The file share in smb.conf has these entries: path = /home/samba/myshare guest ok = no read only = no force create mode = 0644 force directory mode = 0775 The directory "myshare" has the following permissions:

Netcell RAID cards
Hi, Anyone tried netcell products on Centos 3 or 4? They claim driverless operation under WinXP, but in linux the only doc that is related with CentOS would be the Fedora core 2 (http://www.netcell.com/support/Fedora_Core2_readme.txt) and requires a kernel rebuild. I'd like to know if it would be possible to install CentOS directly on drives on such a card, without needing a build

winbind or netsamlogon_cache.tdb issue
Hello, i am using samba 3.0.9 (winbind in particular) on RHES server for a squid project : to authenticate users or check in they are member of some groups on AD W2K servers. It has been working fine for one year. Last week, we have defined new AD groups to use for this project. The problem that i am facing, is that for some users, the check to see if the user is in the group is working fine,

wbinfo can not convert User names and Group name to S ID
Yep. We are dealing with once perfectly fine working 3.0.9 servers to erratic and weird behaved ones. We believe this is due to changes made my MS in http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS05-042.mspx but thus far have not been able to confirm. Commands like: net rpc join -S PDC -U <Admin> now return "no suitable server found" even though that is the same command

[Fwd: Re: Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot befound' loading profile]
Doesn't really resolve the issue, but in my case the problem went away when using physical machines rather than virtual machines. The environments are identical - RH ES 3.0 with Windows XP sp1a client (no hotfixes or GPO settings applied). Thanks for everyone's help. User's smbd processes don't get killed
Hi, all. Last saturday, we've done a cutover for Samba 2.0.5a to be our new fileserver. All is going well, except for two network users that make me reboot the server. What happens is as follows: * user logs on onto samba server; * user opens and closes files, etc, OK until in one of these operations his/her machine hangs; * user reboots his/her machine to log on again. In this
