Can't delete users which have the displayName attribute in ldapsam
Hi, i just migrated my NT Domain to samba (3.0.20) with ldapsam. Now, when i try to delete a user via usrmgr, i get an 'access denied' error. The log says: Object class violation (attribute 'displayName' not allowed) And thats true. I have 'ldap delete dn = no' in the configfile, and hence only some attributes are deleted. The list of these attributes is in lib/smbldap.c,

R-Documentation including an image?
Dear List Members, I was wondering if there's a way to include an image in a .Rd file, something like \img{} In http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-exts.html#Documenting-packages nothing's mentioned regarding images (besides the image of the workspace) Is there a way to include an image? Thanks in advance, Thomas -- Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Roth (geb. Kaliwe) Technische Universitaet

background lpq update not working
I'm using several 'netbios aliases' with my server, only one of them offers the printers. In this enviroment, the new background lpq update, indroduced in 3.0.6, does not work correctly. I think, this happens, because the sending and the receiving process has different lists of services, so the service number could not correctly recognized. As a workaround, i changed

cups related error messages
I'm using Samba 3.0.7 with the printername_and_queue_update.patch (http://samba.org/~jerry/patches/post-3.0.7) from Jerry and cups as the print spooler. For every printer, where the samba printername and the cups printer name differs, i get errormessages like the following: [2004/10/25 16:30:00, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_queue_get(900) Unable to get jobs for

Disabling storeing of cached profiles?
Hello! I know that this is not samba related, but may be some one knows a quick answer: When using profiles, stored on a well running samba-2.0.0beta2 PDC, the NT PC's cache the profile during a user session. As this profile is not deleted on the PC and we have a lot of users with only few PC's we need a lot of diskspace for this old profiles. Is there a way (Registry Key, ..) that

Fwd: Re: Asterisk as a Condo door opener/intercom
Asterisk as a phone system makes perfect sense in a condo. You can get all the DID's you want and eliminate costs for the owners. You can offer standard FXO for people who don't care and IP sets for people who want to "upgrade" to feature sets. Your door openner is a piece of cake. 1. Create an option in your dialplan only in the "from-access-door" context that reads

Linux printing to NT printer
Hi, I am using redhat 5.1 and want to print to an hp722c on a NT 4.0 box with service pack 3 installed. The printer works fine locally. I have created a win-printer spooler on the redhat machine as a SMB printer to a share on the NT machine called //bob/hp720. I created a printer on the NT machine called hp720 and shared it off as hp720 with the permissions everyone full control. The printer

File permissions problem - Visible Analyst
I have Samba 1.9.18p10 running on linux 2.0.35. It's being used largely as a file server for student email, netscape bookmarks, Word papers, etc. from Win95 clients. The configuration is pretty much the defaults. We have an application called Visible Analyst (VA) that needs to be used by a few users. The bulk of the application files are shared but a few need to be available at startup

How to sync /etc/smbpasswd with /etc/passwd ?
While we do sync our /etc/passwd whenever /etc/smbpasswd is changed via the Samba sync option that does not seem to be possible the other way round: I just want a /etc/smbpasswd generated from my /etc/passwd with the correct passwords as used for the UniX login... Is that possible ? Regards, -- /(__ __|\ Lars Steinke, Research Student @ ( \/ __)_

Strange behaviour with domain login
Hi there, I have Samba 1.9.18p18 installed on Linux (S.u.S.E. 5.3). It is configured to act as a domain controler for the Windoze machines. One of my users, which can login from his Win95 (plain text password) without problems, wants to change his password from the Control Panel. But every time when he logs out after changing his password and re-logs in, the new password is refused by the

Virtual CDROM for Unix?
Has anyone implemented a "virtual cdrom" facility as offered on windows? That is CD images are cached & compressed on hard disk and shared across a network. See: http://www.winmag.com/library/1996/1196/11r24a.htm I have not found any news of a Unix solution. I would like to offer one on a Linux server to Windows clients. It should not be hard to implement with Samba... Thanks
