SAMBA + OPENLDAP - Getent - Please help :)
I have setup a SAMBA + OPENLDAP server following Samba-3 By Example, but I have run into several problems. All the tests described in the Chapter 6 such as pdbedit -Lv, slapcat, and ldapsearch -x -b give the desired results. But, getent can't read passwd or group information from ldap backend. I have done my best to solve the problem, but it just doesn't work. I have compiled the nss_ldap

IDEALx tools & OpenLDAP 2.1.x
Since I am trying to learn both Samba3 & OpenLDAP 2.1.x, I found the IDEALx tools very useful, but needing some modifications to work. Here is my post to the IDEALx mailinglist - maybe it's helpful to someone in here (NOTE: I'm using the IDEALx tools from CVS since those are the only ones that work with Samba3 yet): I've modified the Samba tools to work with OpenLDAP

No, there are lots of situations where that doesn't make sense. You don't want to have to define local copies of the functions from every package you use, for example. I think the takeaway is to learn how R scoping works, and keep things simple. That's one reason I tend to avoid "tidyverse" packages. There are a lot of really good ideas in those packages, but

What do _you_ mean when you use the term "interactive"? Because R distinguishes between executing code in a function and executing code from the global environment, but it does not care whether a person is doing the typing or not. I get the feeling that you think of your R code in terms of "scripts" when you should be thinking of your code in terms of functions. What

Dear Duncan, THanks for the reply...! So the takeaway is that define the symbol in the same environment before using it right!? samba ldap bind problems.
I have a solaris 9 box that I am configuring to be a PDC using the latest version of samba authenticating off of an Openldap db. This machine uses the same ldap server to authenticate the unix users but after following documentation for setting up samba/ldap PDC. Using smbldap-populate populated the database with no problems but when I try and run smblclient -L master I get the following

You can't change the basic way R searches, but you can ask for a different kind of search. For example, to see if "x" exists, you can use exists("x") and it will do the default search, but exists("x", inherits = FALSE) will only look in the current environment. The get() function has a similar argument which returns the value Unfortunately these

can't join domain / smbldap-useradd -w machine not working
Hello, I'm trying to set up Samba + OpenLDAP as a PDC. I followed the instructions from chapter 6 in Samba-3 by Example, my system is SuSE 9.1. ldap, winbind, nmb and smb are running. testparm says my smb.conf file is OK. I set LDAP password using smbpasswd -w. There was a similar post a few days ago (smbldap-tools don't create machine account properly), but it didn't help me.

return value of {....}
Fair enough, Akshay. Wondering why a design was chosen is reasonable. There are languages like python that allow unpacking multiple values and it is not uncommon to return multiple things from some constructs as in this: >>> a,b,c = { 4, 5, 6 } >>> a 4 >>> b 5 >>> c 6 But that is a bit of an illusion as the thing in curly braces is a very
