problem with net rpc vampire
I'm trying to migrate accounts from a NT4 PDC to a Samba 3.0.26a server with
a ldap backend, using "net rpc vampire".
I was able successfully to run the "smbldap-populate" script and verified
that users and groups were created by running "pdbedit -Lw" and "net
groupmap list".
According to the output from "net rpc vampire" all accounts and

Bad passwords from Vampire / NT migration
I just did a clean install of Fedora 9 onto a Pentium 4 machine. It is actually running SELinux enforcing, but I haven't found any errors related to that so far. It is running Samba 3.2.3-0.20. I am trying to migrate a Windows NT 4.0 domain with about 30 users and 30 computers onto a pure Samba setup, using Samba as the PDC and tdbsam.
I have read the HOWTO guide extensively, and

I'm looking for advice or links to clear documentation on the use and
configuration of "net vampire" and it's ability to download PDC accounts
with passwords intact.
I have successfully used "net vampire" to synchronize my Samba BDC --

approximate net rpc vampire HOWTO, as promised
Hi Folks,
as promised, here's what I did to get net rpc vampire working. There's
a question at the bottom that someone might be able to answer for
me. If the detail below is sane, I'll tidy it up some and submit it as
a proper HOWTO. If not, please tell me where I'm being insane :)

Yearly attempt at 'vampire' of NT4 domain
Hi all.
Since our NT4 PDC is on it's last legs, I've been motivated to once
again try to use samba's vampire functionality. Unfortunately I'm
actually doing worse than last year ...
My smb.conf:
[global]
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
interfaces = 10.146.0.254/255.255.0.0
encrypt passwords = yes

net rpc vampire not working
Hi,
Can someone help me get "net rpc vampire" in one of its forms working.
The objective is to migrate from an NT4 PDC to a SAMBA 3.0 PDC using
LDAP as a back end. I am trying to migrate the user and machine accounts
across in a lab environment, separate from the main network (I have
replicated the PDC to do this).
I have samba-3.0.20b built from the samba team source RPM on Fedora

Is the net rpc vampire at all destructive to a NT4 PD C?
"net rpc vampire ..." does NOT set the SAM or SECURITY hives of the
registry to "readable", which is what renders the PDC non-operable.
"net rpc vampire ..." is safe to use as many times as it takes to get
comfortable with the process. I did it my self when I was converting
our "labs" NT4 domain to Samba.

Adding machines and machine based logins
Hi All,
I am hoping to set up machine based logins on our Samba server (3.0.21c/RedHat
EL4). I have the following lines in the global section to my smb.conf:
[global]
add group script = /usr/sbin/groupadd %g
delete group script = /usr/sbin/groupdel %g
add user to group script = /usr/sbin/usermod -G %g %u
passdb backend = tdbsam:/etc/samba/passdb.tdb

Réf. : Re: Net rpc vampire : NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi all,
Thank you for your help, and sorry for my late answer.
Everything works fine by now !
Yes, you have to become a BDC to vampire the accounts ! This is why I was
getting an "Access denied" error :
I thought my Samba was a BDC, but I forgot to add "domain logon = Yes" in
my smb.conf, so Samba was a simple share server.
Here is the steps I followed to suck the accounts :

net rpc vampire - cannot login to migrated computer accounts
Hello experts,
I've migrated our NT4 domain to sambe 3.0.20b/ldap backend with "net rpc
vampire", and nearly everything works as expected. But one big problem
remains: it's not possible to login to the domains member maschines now,
because "the domain is not available at the moment" (translated from
german). After the maschine rejoined the samba domain, login

Is the net rpc vampire at all destructive to a NT4 PDC?
Reading through the Samba3 -By Example guide and I'm confused with the
statement section 9.2
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2594565
about accessing the SAM and Security sections of the registry will render
the PDC non operable.
Its clear from the text if you go and edit the registry(regedit etc..) so
you can read the entries your PDC will not work.

net vampire and WIn2003 AD
Hello Samba People,
it is my first letter to Samba ML, so first of all - thanks Samba team for a
great SW.
Now the question:
I want to migrate from Win2003 AD to Samba 3.3.2. I want to use net vampire
feature to import all account information (is there any other way to do
it?). Net vampire works partly - in the direct meaning of this word - it is
importing only 131 objects. How come?

net rpc vampire, profiles, SIDs oh my!
Ok. I am trying to "net rpc vampire" from my current AD domain into a
ldapsam password backend so I can get the user SID to preserve profiles.
I am aware that HKEY_USERS holds that SID as well. In my test
environment, the SID for userA in the AD domain when taken from
HKEY_USERS and put into userA's ldap entry as sambaSID preserves the
profile correctly, also the last digits of

Migrating (vampire) from NT4 to samba 3.5.7
Hi,
I'm trying to prepare migration from NT4 server to samba with ldap
backend. For testing and simulating I have prepared one NT4 server, one
Centos 5.5 samba server and now I have almost working setup for
vampiring users and groups.
Using following packages:
samba3.i386 3.5.7-43.el5
samba3-cifsmount.i386 3.5.7-43.el5
samba3-client.i386 3.5.7-43.el5

High CPU load on smiod
Hi all,
I'm running Samba 3.0.13 on Mandrake 10.2 (LE2005) and have mounted the shares
on an NT4 server to rsync the files over to the Samba box.
The only thing is that Linux sees the dual Xeons in the server as four CPUs
and the first core on CPU1 hits 100% while the files are copying over. Every
so often, CPU1, core 2 takes over (at 100%) for a short period and then core
1 goes back to
