samba samba cross subnet browsing
Hi!
I am having some trouble with a samba domain distributed over 2 subnets
(192.168.0.0/23 (supernetted) & 192.168.4.0/24). These subnets are
linked over the internet through a IPSec gateway to gateway (network to
network) connection (i.e. all machines can reach/ping each other on both
subnets). The samba PDC (with LDAP backend) has IP 192.168.0.4 and there
is a BDC (LDAP slave) in

Samba 2.2.5-1 BDC
Hi I'm using a Samba 2.2.5-1 PDC on a RH 7.2 everything works fine !!
Now I'd like to set up a BDC so, following the Samba-BDC-Howto I've:
- synced /etc/passwd /etc/shadow /etc/group /etc/samba/smbpasswd
- imported the SID with the -S option of the smbpasswd from PDC
- duplicated the shares between PDC and BDC
- modified the master domain parameter on the BDC to NO
But if I shut down

bind or samba configuration preventing browsing network
I have a networking problem where I am not certain if the problem is
samba or bind. I am still pretty much a nb at linux. The machine in
question is running openSuSE 10.2 and is named rd1. I had samba working
fine before I started to make it a WINS server and DNS host.
I have a small LAN with no real administration functionality. The
network is used for simple file sharing and dial-up

Printing problem, CUPS
Hi,
I have a wierd problem regarding printing.
I use the CUPS-backend on a debian-box to share printers with samba.
Sometimes for no apperently reason, a win-box (XP-home) just can't print
after a reboot... and no matter how many reboots the win-box makes it
just stops working, and dosen't work until samba is restartet.... and
its not a samba crash, because other win-boxes prints

Hi,
I use Samba and cups on my debian-box to share printers, but sometimes,
for no apperently reason, windows machines (XP-pro and XP-home),
sudently won't print after reboot and this is only solved by a samba
restart. Other times the first print after win-reboot, just gets lost,
and never apper in the cups-printing log.
It's not domain controled, but everyone is mounting their

WG: Cross subnet browsing + OpenVPN
What about your openvpn config?
The tun net must have an entry in your hosts allow.
If you work with briding the remote network has to be the same subnet as the
local!?
Bridging is the best way to have a remote net integrated.
I have one logging in form Berlin on my Samba-Domain.

cross subnet browsing/domain logon problem
Dear all,
I'm having great difficulty getting cross-subnet domain logon & browsing to
work and have nearly reached the end of my sanity trying to figure out
what's wrong. Here's my setup and what's happening (apologies if it is
convoluted):
Subnet A
One Samba PDC with encrypted passwords.
One samba file server
Subnet B
One Samba file server (serverB) that is the *local

Browsing Problems
Hello.
I've got a Samba server and I'd like it to be master browser and
everything else except domain controller (the customers wants a
workgroup, not a domain).
Lately a Windows 2003 server was added to the net and then I guess it
was removed.
I keep getting messages like the following in the logs:

Cross subnet browsing + OpenVPN
Hi All,
I'm having a problem with cross subnet browsing and name resolution across
an openvpn tunnel. i've found quite a few people who've had the same on
mail lists but none of their fixes have worked. The spec of the setups at
both ends of the tunnel are as follows:
OS - CentOS 5.5
Samba Version 3.5.4
OpenVPN Version 2.0.9-1
Each server is configured in gateway mode with two NICS,

I set up an ipsec/racoon vpn tunnel test environment. The gateway machines
are 192.168.0.30 and 192.168.0.31 on the external adaptor and 10.0.1.1 and
10.0.2.1 internally. The test workstations are 10.0.1.10 and 10.0.2.10.
The tunnel seems to be working as in 10.0.1.10 can talk to 10.0.2.10 an vice
versa and they can both use the net via NAT, however 192.168.0.30 and
192.168.0.31 cannot directly

Samba BDC at company branch in different subnet?
Hello guys,
i just wanted to ask about an idea, if it is feasible (or not).
The company i work for (350 users) has 2 branches, that are
interconnected with HQ via L2TP (encapsulated in IPsec) tunnels, that
are setup in between Mikrotik routers.
current setup:

Dis-used ip creating errors in logs & slow XP browsing
I run samba 3.0.1 on a Redhat 9 box. Everything is fine, there are just
two minor points which I would like to fix. Firstly, I am seeing the
following in my logs. It occurs every few hours in
/var/log/samba/log.nmbd and every 10 minutes or so in /var/log/messages:

About BDC
Hi list,
First let me give something about my network
structure

VPN GATEWAY

VPN
GATEWAY
|
192.168.5.0-->192.168.5.3 (PDC)
Right now I'm having
192.168.5.3(SAMBA+LDAP PDC) and WINS server, and I want to build a BDC
(192.168.4.3) on the other side of the VPN.
my questions are:
1. is it
possible?
2. is BDC needs to be setup as a WINS server
