Question on Samba Service
Hi,
For no particular reason, my Samba service didn't start yesterday,
when I went to start it by going in the /usr/local/samba/sbin and then
typing SMBD I got an error
"permission denied" and something about the port 139 (sorry I don't have
the whole error message)
No changes were made on the box.
I started looking over the web and I found an something out something to

Multiple interfaces
I have tried to set up Samba on my Solaris 2.5.1 with 2 interfaces (le0,
le0:1 - one network card with two IP addresses). But all I could see is
throught the default ports 137 and 139.
In my /etc/inetd.conf, I have:
netbios-ns dgram udp wait root /opt/samba/bin/nmbd nmbd
-s/opt/samba/lib/kes.smb.conf
netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /opt/samba/bin/smbd smbd

INETD Question.
I'm currently running version 2.0.7 of samba(CIFS9000). I have HPUX 11.x
installed on the samba server. When I try to run this from inetd it doesn't
work. I can run a startup script that runs the smbd as a daemon and it works
fine. But if I try to run it from inetd it won't start. The previous version
of Samba 1.9.18p10 that I had on this server worked fine. Is this a bug in

problems running samba on Caldera 2.3?
I have the default installation of samba (2.0.5) that came with Caldera OL
2.3, but it doesn't seem to be starting up properly, nor is SWAT working.
When I run the script 'samba start', I get the message "Starting samba:
smbd nmbd", but when I check the running processes, only nmbd shows up.
Running smbstatus gives me the message "Couldn't open status file

netbios-ssn/tcp: unknown service
Sorry if this is such a basic question but I couldn't find anything about this in the FAQs/HowTos/Digest.
I've compiled samba-1.9.18p3 on SunOS4.1.3_U1.
When I tried to run smbd via inetd.conf (SIGHUP), I always get the following on the console.
inetd[590]: netbios-ssn/tcp: unknown service
I've edited the /etc/services to add:
netbios-ssn 139/tcp
And the /etc/inetd/conf with

Greetings all,
See below for postinstall and remove scripts for the above release for
those
who may have wondered why they didn't work. Minor changes, but those

I'm trying to start SAMBA from the inetd. I have added the port numbers

Access denied from NT
Hi,
I have a problem in accessing samba server from NT
network neighbourhood. I can see the samba server icon
on neighbourhood. But while trying to access then it's
asking for user name & passowrd.
I am not using local user & password from unix box
rather it should be authenticated from NT PDC and
accordingly I have modified the smb.conf file. Here is
the sample of that.

Samba Newbie Questions
Sorry if these are RTFM questions, but I have yet to find the
answers... and one problem is the FM. ;)
I have installed Samba on a FreeBSD 2.2.8 machine. I want it to mainly
control a few printers for our NT domain, and if that goes well, the
ability to access user directories 'directly' with Win9x and NT is
enticing since the box's main purpose now is a mail server.
Question 1:

I just install samba.1.9.18p10 version on my Solaris 2.6.
Our network setup: the SAMBA server is on the same network with my NT
Server PDC and NT workstation within PDC domain. I also have another
subnet that have WinNT and Win95. We also use NIS domain server for our
UNIX home user account.

I did "ps -aef|grep smbd" and see it not running. nmbd is running.
I followd the instructions as follows ans I see no smbd running.

Samba errors
Dear list;
I have been using samba 1.9.18p10 on a Sun Sparc Ultra 2 for about a
year. I use it to share a directory to an NT/95 network. I now have
a Sun Sparc Ultra 10 running Solaris 2.6.
In order to prepare the Ultra 10 for y2k I downloaded
