rid_idmap_get_id_from_sid: no suitable range available for sid
Hello,
I have the following message posted on the linux.samba newsgroup, but so far
no response. Therefore I try again in this group, hoping that there are
other people reading this group, and yes, that hopefully somebody can help
me with my samba winbind problems.

Re-2: Samba vs ADS problems
Hello Stefan
Thank you for your fast responses
My boss insisted to access the data somehow (getting the server running)
so now it is running as a public guest enabled, read only server
However I will keep trying to make it work again as intented....
I will dig out some winbind 10 log files later :)

Re-2: SOLVED - idmap_rid / roaming profile permissions /NTAUTHORITY\SYSTEM
because the same samba fileserver will also have the home directories
for linux users!
According to the smb.conf man pages, the value auto will corretcly apply
case insensitivity for windows users, and case sensitive for the linux
users.
Of course I don't know what will happen if a linux user creates two
files with the same name and different case, and then logs in from a

Corrupt Database and couldn't map SID.
I'm running Samba 3.0.11. Compiled with:
./configure '--with-ads' '--with-pam' '--with-winbind' '--with-smbmount' '--with-shared-modules=idmap_rid'
It configured, make and make installed fine. I configured the idmap_rid using the following directives in the smb.conf.
; IDMap Stuff
idmap backend = idmap_rid:<DOMAINNAME>=500-100000000

duplicate group in NET GROUPMAP LIST
Hi List
I'm experiencing a strange behaviour on my samba server
the group "Domain Users" (and other builtin groups from my AD servers)
appear to have a duplicated SID
here is the output of

acl support
Hi all,
I try to use rsync with the option --acl but it doesn`t work.
send_acl : sys_acl_get_file(haservices, SMB_ACL_TYPE_ACCESS): Operation not supported
Does my rsync-package don`t support acls or what is going wrong here?
How can I ensure that my rsync version is compiled with acl support?
info: rsync-2.6.2-8 (rpm from sles9)
cheers

pam_winbind causing local user login failures on 3.0.23c ... and a couple of other things
All,
I'm currently running a CentOS 4.4 x86_64 server and wanted to have
single-signon for Active Directory users on my domain. CentOS 4.4 comes
with Samba 3.0.10-1.4E.9, which ends up filling my logs with messages
related to the BUILTIN users/groups. I have a few local user accounts on
the server for testing, etc.
Since issues related to winbind and BUILTIN users/groups have recently been

Windows XP profile problems
s there is trick to fully copying an existing local profile over to your new
domain profile after you join the Samba domain? I tried the profile copy
under System Properties, on the advanced tab and although it completed, I
log on and MS office wants to load files from the CD and my start menu seems
to be missing the entire left side column.
When I look at the size and number of files my

AD integration: "getent passwd" can't see *new* users, but "wbinfo -u" can
I have two different systems (on different networks) showing this
behavior. Both are running Ubuntu Dapper/606.1 LTS with samba version
3.0.22 and windows 2003 sp1 servers (not R2). AD integration is done
via winbind, with nss using winbind. At some point in time (which is
unknown to me), the samba server stopped seeing new users, groups,
machines which are added to AD.

Wbinfo -Y couldn't work with idmap_rid for BUILTIN groups
Hi,
wbinfo -Y BUILTIN\group can work without idmap_rid in Samba-3.0.14a. But
I'm experiencing wbinfo -Y with idmap_rid failed for SID to GID
conversion of BUILTIN groups.
Since idmap_rid only works in a single domain, and captures workgroup's
domain sid as a real domain sid in rid_idmap_get_domains(), when running
"wbinfo -Y BUILTIN/System Operators", the function

Windows ACL modify ability?
I have posted several questions now and have ben unsuccessful in getting any
responses, so i thought i would take a different tack.
I know adjusting permissions on Samba shares, through the Microsoft MMC is
possible when you have POSIX ACL support compiled in your kernel. I don't
think that level of control is necessary for me and short of recompiling the
kernel for that support i have been

Samba PDC and logon.bat questions
Hello,
For some time now I have thought that Samba was a piece of cake to setup and
thought making it a PDC and WINS server to boot, would not be much harder.
Haha, I am finding out I was very wrong.
First question:
Since logon.bat is being processed by a windows client machine that has no
idea what to do with Samba variables, how do you avoid having to create a
separate logon script

WINS emulation re:samba 3.0.1
Hello,
I have Samba setup and working somewhat, my intention is really not to
provide file shares at the moment but to function as a WINS server for
network neighborhood browsing through/across routers.
I believe I have the necessary settings enabled, such as:
wins support = yes
preferred master = yes
local master = yes
But so far the Samba server does not seem to be getting the remote

Using idmap_rid backend, cannot browse home directory from XP
Samba version is 3.0.10 on Gentoo linux. I am trying
to use idmap_rid backend in a Windows AD environment,
the Linux PC acting only as a domain member. I am
using idmap_rid because I need UID/GID predictability.
I can log in to console correctly, and it shows the
right user and the "Domain Users" as the group.
When I use default winbind TDB, I can browse the home
directory from an XP

joined to ads, mapped permissions
I have joined samba to a 2003 active directory server.
If a samba shared dir is owned by root, how does active directory manage it?
more specifically, how are the permissions mapped? administrator to root?
i have seen reference to a parameter in smb.conf to "username map",
but i don't see reference to it in either of the John Terpstra Samba
books so that can't be the bridge

Samba3 : no suitable range available for sid
I'm setting up a freebsd server which will authenticate against an
Active Directory
I mean: the server will NOT have any local users (except mandatory and
minimum
required for management and configuration) and will authenticate requests
for login and access
FOR EVERY SERVICE against an Active Directory Server
I have configured the samba service and currently I can
login to local terminal,
