Can't get "getent passwd" to display winbind users
Hi, I am running Samba 3.0.1 on a Debian/Sid machine. I have installed winbind to access the AD of the local network, which I want to use for UNIX logons. wbinfo -u shows all the users of the AD, but "getent passwd" only shows the contents of the file /etc/passwd. I have been following the instruction for winbind (Chapter 21) in the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. Any comments would be

Domain Member Server Problem
I have a problem with a Member Server on Samba 3.0.28a running on Ubuntu Heady. Both systems were recently upgraded using Ubuntu's automated upgrade. It's also possible I broke a working configuration by accident. The shares on the Member server are visible on the XP clients and some users can authenticate properly. At least one user on one XP desktop cannot. The shares are visible

Samba 3.0 - User Changing His/Her Passwords
Hello all! We recently upgraded from Samba 2.2.3 to Samba 2.999+3.0.alpha20-3 on debian 3.0. Ever since then users are unable to change their own passwords on their W2k machine. What happens is when they try to change it a process (passwd) gets stuck with the users name. The only way to fix this is to kill the passwd process the user started. I haven't changed the "passwd chat"

Hello everyone! I'm trying (unsuccessfully until now) configure two Samba servers: - Server A. Acting as PDC in a Windows 2000/XP domain and as profile server. - Server B. Acting as profile server. I have users whose profiles are in server A and others whose profiles are in the server B. The server where each user's profile lives is identified by the main group (GID) of the user (that

It works fine on a local (Server) machine, but when I try to use it from my other windows boxes, I have a problem - although it is stated that the printer status is "Ready" it takes quite a

domain name vs ip address causes refresh problem and lowercase vs capitol folder names - how to fix refresh issue?
I have Samba 3.022 and have run into a curious problem - when I access my shared folders over the internet using Windows XP, I get different behavior whether I put the domain name (e.g. \\mydomain.com) versus if I put my direct ip address in (e.g. \\12.34.56.78) when accessing my shares. First, the first screen listing all the shares is in all caps when using the domain name but in lowercase when

ntconfig.pol not even being loaded
At one site I support, I have just recently put a policy file on their server to try and make some stuff easier to manage. Only problem is Windows is not even trying to load it. I watched the traffic in Wireshark, and there's no request for the ntconfig.pol file at all. And of course nothing from it is being applied. I had read that this can happen if someone has set the policy refresh

configs
I'm seeing very long delays the first time winbind accesses the network. See: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=496569 I've tried lots of things, down to stripping the config to a bare minimum for ADS security and even killing ipv6 support on the box. Nothing has resolved this. Does anyone see anything obviously wrong with this configuration that might cause a very long

printers don't show up as shares
Hi all, I have been using Samba 3.0.2a-1 on Debian for a while now, no problems. I upgraded to 3.0.4-5 and now I can't see any printers as shares. I have tried everything I can think of with smb.conf and still no printers show up. Below is my smb.conf and printcap files, does anyone know what's wrong here? Thank you in advance, Darren -------/etc/samba/smb.conf--------- [global]
