Automounting Samba shares for Linux clients?
Is there a way to configure the latest version of Samba to automount
shares when a Linux client logs into a Samba PDC? I have searched high
and low trying to find an answer to this and the only information I have
found is using pam_mount (which I have yet to get working correctly) or
NFS. When searching for an answer, I came across comments such as "NFS

RE: Samba installation error
If you just want to share some files, version 2 will fit your needs.....
So skip the part installing samba and continue with setting it up from the howto.....

Missing data diagnostics and apology
Greetings again,
Seems I've touched a nerve with my previous post and after a few kind folks alerted me to a better distribution method I chose to put the code here:
http://egad.psych.arizona.edu/mddiag.final.R.gz
Any tips, criticisms, or additions are welcomed. Thanks for your patience.

NFSv4 "Missing" Data on Clients
Hello all. I converted my server from Fedora Core 3 to CentOS 4.1 and I've
been slogging unsuccessfully through an NFSv4 problem. I'm using the same
configuration for NFS that I had in place on FC3 that worked. On the server,
I have the following data structure:
/data
/data/archive
/data/pictures
/data/music
Each is a separate ext3 filesystem mounted with rw,acl. /etc/exports

The problem is, they don't seem to work any more. They all seem to rely
on mount.cifs and you need to be root to run this. When

Can't add machine account to domain
I am running samba-2.2.7a-7.9.0 on RedHat 9.0. The domain I am trying
to join has a different name than the workgroup I am trying to leave.
Below is a copy of the last two entries of the computer_name.log, which
are created when I try to add the machine account.

Update to EL 6.3 breaks TCP NFS automounts
See Red Hat Bugzilla bug #846852 for details.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=846852
FYI:
We discovered that after updating to EL 6.3 on our x86_64 server, autofs
5.0.5-54 broke our nightly backups that rely on automounting an NFS
share hosted on another EL 6 machine on our local network. The machine
hosting NFS server was configured to allow only TCP connections to the
port

Horrendously slow transfer speeds in FC3 is drivingmecrazy!!! Please help... - SOLVED!
Thanks for the tip but recompiling the latest version was the second thing I
did after trying and failing to tweak the smb.conf on my original hardware
conf. I found that compiling it for my specific architecture (i686)
increased my performance by 100% (from a punny 0.8 MB/s to a better but
still punny 1.6 MB/s).
