Network logon & slow connection issues
Hi:
I am running Samba 2.5 because SCO's skunkware version of 2.6 just would not
run. I am running SCO OpenServer 5.04, which I wish there was a smbclient so
that I could perform more adequate server side testing.
I am currently faced with three issues which I have not found solutions too.
1. I the log.user name I have found the users do connect to the server but

Connection by peers
Our Samba work very bad!
My some users can't save changers in Exel and Word files.
We have file-server ( Linux RH7.3, kernel 2.4.18, Samba-2.2.7a-1)
We local network consists of 500 computers with NT Domain Controller
(Win98,Win2000,WinXP,Microsoft Office 2000).
The user opens a file, he changes it and sometimes can save a file, and
sometimes no. Why?

no route to host between Mac samba and Linux samba
I have a mac running Mac OS X ans samba 2.2.5 which is provided by
Apple. The Linux server have samba 2.2.8 (the last one). Sometimes, in
the server logs, you have:

read_data: read failure for 4. Error = No route to host
in this case, the Macclient lost the samba connection and has to reboot
because a silly error (Mac error: -47, %

Read failure for 4. Error = connection reset by peer.
I am having a SERIOUS problem with our new 2.2.5 server. In fact I will
probably be forced to move to a Windows 2000 Server platform, as the samba
server is practically useless. Work on any files on the share cannot be
done without major risk of losing data. I get these two errors all day:

question about Samba share in HTTP root dir [repost]
Hiya,
i have had a HTTP directory tree shared out via SMB on my HTTP
development server for a few years with no trouble. recently however
various files have started becoming read-only as far as my Win2k machine
is concerned.
upon ssh-ing into the tree in question i find all the
permissions are fairly open and i cannot see why i should have any
problem at all. i was wondering if this might have

CD sharing via iso9660, mounted, and samba
I have installed a small Limux box in my local primary school, in order
to sahre CD iso images.
The system works fine, untill several w/s's concurrently access the same
program , whereupon, we get spurious crashes. I have tried disableing
op-locks, which seemed to help, but only slightly.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Disconnected...:( It MUST be a kernel problem OR a Samba problem.
Here's what you asked for - along with some tcpdump data that shows
what I'm thinking the problem is...If anyone knows what this is - I'd LOVE to
hear it - I've seen lots of posts about this type of error from
others, and none of those folks have posted their problem being fixed
(they probably gave up on it like I did for awhile...)

lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436) ...
Hello,
I am administering several Samba PDCs (2.2.7a - 3.0.1) in different networks.
The underlying OS'es are nearly the same on all machines, Debian 3.x and
SuSE 8.x. The machines are also providing the following services to the
clients: ISC dhcpd3, bind9 for dynamic DNS and lprng. Clients are running
Win2K/XP.
So far, everything works: domain logons, printing, file sharing.
But I

Samba 2.2.7 as PDC causing BSOD on 2K domain logon
Hello,
Have wrestled this one for about a week, now, getting frustrated ;-)
Running samba as PDC for my domain (cf. smb.conf further down)
When logging in on my 2K Pro machine, I first get a "can't find roaming
profile, attempting local profile"-error, but logon using my user's smb
account accepts only the correct password and so the identification part
works well.

samba 2.2.3a "Connection reset by peer" problem
Hi!!
I have 4 boxes with RH7.3 and Samba 2.2.3a, and since we put them in a
production enviroment we are having a lot of problems, 90% of the clients are win2k sp2.
Sometimes when I try to copy a little file (20k) it lasts abot 30
seconds, and if I try to copy multiple files (about 200) or a bigger
file (about 100Mb) start copying but in a few seconds it freezes and
after about 2 minutes, ends

Hello,
First: I am not subbed to this list. - So any answers should be CC:ed to
me. Thank you.
I have a freshly installed debian woody linux box. With 2.4.18 with XFS
patch. - I have two drives (76G + 40G) that I have used LVM to get a
bigger single volume of.
It worked perfectly with scp etc. - But now when I installed samba I get
timeouts.

Log: read failure for 4.

I've been fairly vocal on the samba news groups recently due to a problem with one of my machines, in terms of reading files poorly. I had forgotten that my other machine had some problems as well. The other machines problems and this seems intermitiant, that accessing a file over long periods of time (like a movie) would cause the stream to stop,

Samba possibly causing windows 2000 to crash?
I am using the following:
Samba 2.2.8a (from FreeBSD ports)
FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE-p10
Samba is configured as a member of a Windows 2000 domain.
Generally everything seems to be working as expected. Occasionally the following gets logged to the console:
