Two problems with Samba in AD realm
Hello list.
I recently moved to an AD environment. I'm still keeping a samba servers
to make my cups-managed printers available to windows users, rather than
duplicating configuration with a Windows print service. But I'm facing
two problems, probably due to the way we manage AD.
First, all my host belong to a Unix-managed DNS domain

how to turn off NTLM?
Andrew, as you konw, I'm trying to get samba-3.0-alpha20 to authenticate
a user that logs in to an AD domain workstation with the user's AD
kerberos credentials. looking at the logs, it's not clear to me whether
samba is trying to do kerberos or NTLM authentication for the client.
in smb.conf I have:

Problem with samba 3.0.25b-33
Hi,
our window file server running 3.0.25b-33 (X64) (Sernet rpm)
on SLES 9 SP3 has been stoped working.
The log file shows nothing new. No error ...
Only the clients can not connect to the server. After a restart
of smbd it seems to work for a while.
Any idea ?
Any help is welcome !!

Samba 4.2.0rc4 can't authenticate users
This problem shows up on both Linux and Solaris. I am going to show
the logs from a Fedora 2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 machine.
We are using 'security = domain' with a Windows 2000 domain controller.
We are setting 'password server = starfish2' dispite the fact that the
documentation says that this in not necessary as we have found it to
be necessary. We are setting 'workgroup =

samba-3 trustdom AD (mixed mode) problem
Hi,
I want to get my SAMBA-3.0.0 domain to trust W2K AD (mixed mode) both ways.
I don't want to make my samba box an AD member, just trust it.
Samba-PDC uses ldap as passdb. winbind isn't used. WINS server is running in
W2K PDC server.
Also created a machine account entry to LDAP base, set samba I flag.
Here we go (using mmc @ w2k PDC):
I add my samba domain to "Domains trusted by

Intermittent process crash serving files
We have been using SAMBA for file/print servers and domain controllers
in Windows networks for several years. At one site, we have
intermittent problems in which the connection to the SAMBA server
appears to die: i.e., no one can connect to the share, and the Windows
clients (Terminal Servers and workstations) apparently keep re-trying to
connect which ultimately locks up those clients.

Another odd problem - missing user and domain - with 4.2.0pre1-GIT-0ce4631 on "Solaris".
Good day all,
Another odd little problem; this has persisted through a lot
of recent versions, but posting earlier reminded me I need to mention this
as well .
Built a new version.
Cleared out all ".tdb" etc. files beneath "/var/samba/"
(which is where "locks", "lock", "log", . all sit on

Issues with Joining an NT4 Domain
Hello
I'm having some dificulties joining my Samba 3.0alpha (and 2.2.7a)
machine to my NT4 domain. Let me tell you what I'm attempting to
accomplish. I want to setup the Samba system to authenticate to my NT
domain so that I can use NTLM Proxy authentication with SQUID. Through
reading the docs, I'm under the impression that in order to allow thre

Migration Samba3 -> Samba4: Accessing domain member server is not working
Hi ...
When trying to migrate from samba3 to samba 4.2.2 I am facing a severe
problem that bugs me for hours now. I cannot get a samba 4.2.2
fileserver to work with a samba 4.2.2 PDC as a domain member.
My scenario:
Samba 3 network. PDC and fileserver where Samba 3.6.25. LDAP backend.
We can't move to AD right now so I wanted to move to the current 4.2.2
at least to do this step but to

Unusual Crashes in winbind
So far we have been working well for a week now. We are using Samba 3.02a on
suse 9. Authentication is against an win3k AD. Apart from a Kerberos ticket
expiring, (a croned restart fixes this) we have one new problem
We found we needed an additional AD server as the primary begun to fail on a
regular basis. So we added one. Now this new server grabs the authentication
requests before the old one

Samba 3.6.9 on Centos 6.4 and very slow first access to fileserver
Hello good people,
I am fighting with following issue: our users are complaining about very
slow/delayed displaying of main folders during accessing server using
\\dns.name.of.server (using \\IP or \\netbios_name is it with same
slowness). But once they are authenticated, displaying contents of
(sub-)folders are getting normal.
Once the user hit "enter" key on

Hi,
I am running an Ubuntu 14.04 server with Samba configured to use Quest
Authentication Services for user authentication with an Active Directory
infrastructure. After an Samba upgrade from version

facing the problem that none of the configured Samba shares is

Unable to get PDC to authenticate id for access
I am in the process of upgrading Samba from version 3.0.1 to 3.0.14a. The AIX
team applied maintenance that sent the samba processes into some sort of loop
which was impacting the machines. We were able to upgrade one of the unix
servers with no issues but I cannot get the other one to work. We have 3 unix
machines with samba that are working properly within this domain (the other 2

On our AIX 5.2 system we have Samba 3.0.4 and 3.0.21b. The smb.conf files
are identical for both versions. The 3.0.4 version runs fine, but with
