Connection between postfix and dovecot failing
Hi all,
Hope someone has been here and done that before.
I am running a Mac mini with OSX server version 10.5, that is on El Capitan, but the problem I have started on Yosemite (the previous version) and did not change at all in the upgrade (I had hoped it would have solved itself).
As you might know, OSX server uses postfix and dovecot as mailing engines, good choice.
Since we suffered a

Domain reconnection after network outage. (ME too)
Hello,
I have a problem that seems to be similar as Ollivers
(http://article.gmane.org/gmane.network.samba.general/61240/) but I cant
find any answer to his question.
After a network outage the samba server can't "reconnect" even after a
_reboot_ of the whole server.
I'm running Debian stable Samba 3.0.14a-3.
The message I get in log.windbindd

ext3 data
I am using kernel 2.4 and ext3 fs on all partitions.
I recently suffered a power outage while working on
some documents. Some of them had previously been
saved other had not. In either case none of the new
data was restored. I am also finding other strange
disapearrances like bookmarks and panel applets.
My understanding of the ext3 fs is that these
documents should have been restored

Performance issue with Vista
Hi,
I tested a little bit Samba with Windows vista and found serious performance issue regarding reading large files from Samba server. Computers that I tested Samba with were all identical computers equipped with 2,8 GHz Pentium D processors, 1 GB memory and 1 Gbit/s LAN. All computers have only external USB hard drives so that it is easier to change from operating system to another.

Problem with often password prompt box (security=user)
Hi,
a while ago i had to migrate from old server on Debian Sarge to new one
on Debian Etch (amd64).
Since then, with the same config i had earlier it became a common
problem that client workstations connecting to the server have to
reauthenticate very often (at least few times a day), and the staff is
going to kill me if i dont fix this soon.
Any ideas what could be the cause/solution ?

BIG Samba howto for debian only.
Hi everybody,
I made a pretty complete howto for samba on debian servers.
This howto covers samba + ldap + cups + recycle bin + samba-vscan
+ phpldapadmin + ACL + Extended Attributes.
this howto is also based on the idealx howto
If you do this setup, you should be able to use the NT4 Usermanager,
setup Point en Print Printing. set rights from explorer etc.
other nice tools is ldapadmin (

Option to not update Atime on filesystems not mounted noatime
Hi
I have a single filesystem i don't mount noatime because mutt would work
very good otherwise.
Today, in a discussion about mkisofs, i learned that Linux since 2.6.8
supports "O_NOATIME" as an option to open. (see "man 2 open")
So how comes that rsync doesn't do that and/or there is no option to
switch on that behaviour?

samba banner string
Hi list!
I need your expertise.
How do I do to rid of the banner "SAMBA 3.0.14a on debian on sarge
(pdcsrv)"
I can see that when I use the M$ server tools and I've tried to rewrite the
string but when I click "ok" the string still the same, what I mean is that
no matter what I write there it doesn't change.
I use JXplorer to navigate throw my ldap

A problem with power outages
I have a CentOS-6.2 server in Italy.
Every few months the server gets into a strange state
and stops working after a power outage.
I should say that this does not occur after every power outage;
I suspect, but have no real evidence for this,
that if the power comes back too quickly
then the machine gets confused because it is in the middle of closing down.
If I am in Italy the solution is simple;
