More Random Behaviour
Okay, I'm starting to face professional ridicule at work over this. A
Samba install should take a couple of days, I've been at it... far to long now.
When this started I chased the problem in all the wrong directions. I
thought it was this environment. Now I don't think so.
I have Samba 3.0.14a installed on an AIX 5.2 server.
I had it running (not the way I wanted, but running).

Samba + Kerberos
All;
I have a situation that I'm not sure can be done (I honestly don't know
enough about Samba for this one).
Here's what I have.
The customer has a Windows ADS (note: It's the newer windows ADS, so
there is no NT Domain as in the old NT format).
There are also a number of *nix servers (AIX) that have data on them.
They want to use Samba as basically, an NFS server to serve

Authentication issues - One problem found, another discovered
All;
Okay, I'm narrowing the problem down.
With all other things configured, I'm down to and ADS problem.
The reason Samba can't verify my username/passwords (as specified in
password server = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) is because that address points to
an ADS, and I didn't compile ADS into Samba (best answer I can
find...If I'm way off base on that one, just let me know).
So, the

Samba compile on AIX with LDAP
All;
I'm getting tangled up in this one.
I have an AIX 5.2 server, with LDAP installed, and running (as a client).
I need to compile ADS into Samba, thus, I need LDAP compiled in.
First efforts, it didn't find ldap.h.
So I linked /usr/ldap/include/ldap.h to /usr/include
Now, it complains that libldap doesn't esist (it's in /usr/lib).
What am I missing here?
Any help will be

Unnecessary smbpasswd
Okay, here's my final issue with this installation. I'm hoping
someone can shed some light on it.
The setup:
Server: IBM AIX 5.2
Samba: 3.0.12
The problem:
Samba is insisting on having an smbpasswd entry for all users, and it
shouldn't (based on my past experiences).
I'm setting up a VERY basic samba install.
All it needs to do is enable unix shares to the windows folks.

Samba 3.0.20 aio compile failure on AIX 5.2
I just tried to compile Samba 3.0.20 on AIX 5.2 (someone suggested
that it may resolve the other issue I'm having, I doubt it, but it's
worth a try).
I received the following error when I tried to do the compile:

/usr/include/aio.h:127: field `aio_sigevent' has incomplete type

Domain member server on AIX 5.3
Hi,
I'm trying to setup samba 3.0.14a as domain member on AIX 5.3.
My test environment is:
- PDC and ldap master on RH8.0 (samba 3.0.14a, openldap 2.1.29)
- Ldap slave on FC3 (openldap 2.2.13)
- Samba domain member on FC4 (samba 3.0.14a)
- XP clients
- and Samba domain member on AIX 5.3 (samba 3.0.14a)
This is what I did:
- Compiled samba

PATCH: Kerberos password authentication w/o KDC verification
Folks: We use an old AFS cell with Kerberos 4. Our use of Kerberos 4 is
fairly limited; we have never needed to implement rcmd host principals
for most of our systems. Indeed, given that Kerberos 4 strips off the
domain name portion of a hostname when determining the rcmd instance, we
would not be able to do this, since we do have duplicate hostnames in
multiple subdomains.
For AFS

winbind hang
All;
I'm having an odd problem with winbind.
I just installed Samba 3.0.2 pre1 on a Solaris 9 server.
smbd/nmbd/winbindd all start ok.
But when it first starts, if I try "wbinfo -u", it hangs. As does "getent
passwd". This will continue for the first couple hours after a restart. Then,
things will suddenly start to work, and be fine for the rest of the time. Until I

Differences with net join
All;
I'm getting closer to tracking down my problem (I hope).
Since I want samba to verify the windows users from the Windows
domain, I did the usual net join. But it still doesn't get the users
from there, I still need an smbpasswd file.
So... now the question (for the real samba gurus):
Is there a substantial difference between:
net ads join -w <domain/workgroup>
and
net rpc

Authentication confusion - may be LDAP related
All;
I think I may have a clue about what's going wrong in my little
environment here, but I could really use a more experienced eye on it.
I've been having some strange authentication problems on a new
install. With some digging, I may have a "clue" about what's going wrong.
Some background: I'm only looking to use samba to share Unix
directories to the Windows

OpenSSH 4.7p1, AIX 5.2, with IBM Kerberos = No Joy.
I just tried to build the 4.7p1 on AIX 5.2, with Kerberos 5 enabled,
using the IBM Kerberos implementation (krb5.client.rte,
krb5.toolkit.adt, etc.) Is this supposed to work, or is the full MIT
Kerberos distribution required? IBM provides an older version of
OpenSSH (4.3p2), with Kerberos support, but there are some problems
with it, and I was hoping the problems would be resolved with

Problem copying directories using sftp
Hello!
A couple of days ago I submitted the problem report shown below to the
support forum for WinSCP.
I got a reply (shown at the end of this e-mail) saying that this in part
was a WinSCP problem, but also that there appeared to be something wrong
with the replies from OpenSSH-3.9p1 under AIX 4.3.3.
The full dialog including the reply can be seen at

Samba 3.0.2 uid filtering
All;
I'm running Samba 3.0.2 w/winbind on an LDAP server (for various reasons).
However, our NT PDC managers input the user IDs oddly. They come out looking like:
-rwxr--r-- 1 NORTHGRUM+tibberi 100000 45766615 Feb 17 10:05 Fonts.zip
Is there an (easy) way to filter those, to get rid of the "NORTHGRUM+"?
Our NT admins add that as a way of identifying the network the user is on.

Building 3.0.21x on AIX 5.2
I've followed the instructions in the README at
http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX/ for building 3.0.21x on AIX
5.2 ('oslevel -r' reports '5200-07').
The last version I was able to build on the system was 3.0.14a.
3.0.21c's configure completes with no errors, but the make immediately bombs
with:
# make

Printing Problems w/Samba on AIX (2nd Try)
Hello all,
I have been running Samba on various versions of UNIX for quite a
while now without ever encountering any major problems. However, I have
now run into a problem that has me stumped.
I am running Samba 2.0.5a on an RS/6000 running AIX. Up until a
month or so ago we were running on AIX version 4.2.1. At that time we
upgraded to 4.3.2 and Samba continued to function properly.

Binaries for AIX 5.1
Hi,
I'm looking for binaries of Samba 3 for AIX 5.1
The ones availables on Samba's FTP (
http://us3.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX/ ) are given for AIX
5.2 or 5.3 (what is said in the README)
I found references to 3.0.21 packages (like in this message
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2006-January/116792.html ) that had
existed, but this one is no longer avaible :(
So, do

authentication with winbind+AIX+kerberos
Hi all,
Is possible to authenticate users using AIX+WINBIND+KERBEROS without
need to create a local user on AIX ? Because we need to permit almost
200users at 20 servers and is not cool creating localusers in all
servers. The users are in Active Directory.
