Problem joining 3.6.22 domain when a service connects to a share before logon
Hi everyone. We have recently come across an interesting issue after upgrading from 3.6.16 to 3.6.22. Since we can't currently upgrade to 4.x and we have Win7 machines on site, we implemented a 3rd party product called "Nitrobit Group Policy" which has been working very well since last Summer. On startup, before the login prompt it connects to a share to read in the machine

"force groups" and file deletion on 3.0.14a
We recently upgraded our file servers from RHEL 3 running Samba 3.0.11 to CentOS 4 running Samba 3.0.14a. Since then, we've been getting some "permission denied" errors while deleting files. Most of our shares have permissions set up similar to the following: [database] valid users = @faculty randomsecretary1 randomsecretary2 @admin force group = faculty Under Samba

Group Policy on Samba / Linux / OpenLDAP or another directory (yes, you can)
Heya, I'm a trainer for Red Hat, preparing to teach a course on nifty directory services, and have been doing a little research on related matters. I stumbled upon last weeks thread re: group policy on Linux / Samba machines and thought you folks might be interested in the following. A company called Nitrobit has a group policy implementation that works in conjunction with Samba and any

OT Windows policy question
List, Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself, were also a pre. Now for something completely different: High school in Amsterdam Netherlands: - RHAS3 - Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug reports keep

Would like to run PC Study Bible
Would like to run PC Study Bible ver. 2 from BibleSoft on Linux. Research has led me to WINE. I am new to Linux, have Mandriva 2009 installed. I just DL'ed WINE for Mandriva 2009, and got it going. I tried to install PC Study bible from CD, no dice. I then copied the entire contents of PC Study Bible folder from a windows computer to flash drive and copied it to Linux computer. Still

PC Study Bible
PC Study Bible 4.2B and 4.2C have problems with the menus which are severely vertically compressed. Screenshot of problem: http://narnia.dnsalias.org/wine/PC%20Study%20Bible%20compressed%20menu%20flaw.png I am using Fedora Core 3. I tried all the winehq WINE RPMs between December and March. I think I used sidenet (not winetools) to install IE. IE and other programs work OK. The PC Study

Samba setup
Hi all. I am a truly new to Samba so please bear with me while I ask a few questions. I am running a Pentium 366 Celeron, 128meg memory, Red Hat Linux 7.2, Linux 2.4.7-10, Samba 2.2.1a. I am running this much older version as the best book I have on Linux is "Ren Hat Linux 7.2 Bible" by Chris Negus. It is the most complete book I have so in order to have my experiments with Linux and

Attach a GPS in preboot mode
Hello everyone and best wishes for 2023 :) I have an old *Garmin Drive Smart 50 GPS* and I want to be able to attach it when it is in preboot mode to a VM hosted by a *Debian 11 host*. From what I understand, the preboot mode allows us to flash a firmware before the GPS actually starts (used among other things when the GPS is soft bricked). When I connect the GPS to the host it gives:

smbstatus -B segmentation fault
When using Samba 3.0.23b (slightly old, I know) on CentOS 4.4, smbstatus -B fails with a segmentation fault. smbstatus works, and tdbdump is able to dump brlock.tdb and locking.tdb without any errors (which is not what I expected). Here's the backtrace (non-ASCII characters replaced with 'X'): #0 0x0017fa2c in memcpy () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6 #1 0x0029b19f in tdb_write
