ldap smbpasswd UH???
I can't really guess the point of your intelligent answer from this. If I have to assume you're surprised, I guess I am too. The cn exists in ldap, with all the attributes that I imported from other databases, the message given by smbpasswd suggests that it either tried to create an entry or update it with sambaaccount attributes ( which it didn't ), neither of which are the expected

Problems with Samba Authentication (samba.i386 0:3.0.24-4.fc6 or 3.0.25rc1)
Hi folks, Be gentle - first time I've posted to this list! ;-) I'll try and be complete. If I missed something, please let me know. I've googled and found some information, but nothing *quite* relevant. Running Fedora Core 6. Been using Samba for a long time, it's always been problem free. Since the Fedora upgrade to 3.0.24-4.fc6 (I know this is something specific to

Bug#470929: dhcp: interface names can have dash in them
Package: logcheck-database Version: 1.2.54 Severity: normal I recently created a bridge with the name xen-local. The DHCP server gets requests via this bridge. I got spammed with logcheck messages about DHCPREQUESTS and the lot because the name of the interface in the logcheck-database does not match on names with a dash in it. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable

Bug#503000: logcheck fails due to a perl warning
Package: logcheck Version: 1.2.68 Severity: important I upgraded my lenny server today. I guess the previous update is something like two weeks ago. Now logcheck started sending mails containing only this perl error: This email is sent by logcheck. If you wish to no-longer receive it, you can either deinstall the logcheck package or modify its configuration file (/etc/logcheck/logcheck.conf).

join domain without root
Dear Samba gurus, I am still using Samba 2.2.8a; I have not seen an announcement that this issue would be fixed in 3.0.2; all that follows refers to 2.2.8a. Windows prompts for an account and password that is privileged to join the domain. A Samba administrative

3.0.1rc2 LDAP - problems joining domain
Hi, I'm back on the list ;-) I seem to be having some trouble getting W2K machines to join the domain in 3.0.1rc2. I haven't looked at this in detail since 2.2.8a but it looks like the account gets created in LDAP and then it has trouble setting the password appropriately. I believe this is the relevant part of the log: api_rpcTNP: samr op 0x3a - api_rpcTNP: rpc command:

strange files appearing after file copy
Hello, I just had something strange happen and could not find explanations in the documentation, FAQs or mailing list. The server is a Debian installation running Samba 2.2.3 (kernel 2.4.18 if interested). It has been recently upgraded from 2.0.x (I think x=6). My smb.conf is at the bottom; the directory used is on the [public] share. The client runs Win2k (probably SP2). I copied some files in

Hi, I installed of Samba on Debian GNU/Linux Sarge. Things went smoothly but I got some "failed" ( error? ) messages like account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 4 (maximum password age), returning 0 at the end. Could someone please explain to me what this is. Is it a serious issue??? or problems with the deb package?? Full details below. Thankyou so much. Kind
