[Follow-Up] Domain login - XP 64 -> Samba
hi list, just read this http://www.gatago.com/linux/samba/14522736.html and this seems to be my solution 'cause i'm also hitting the same problem. unfortunately i can't use original debian packages anymore, because they seem to not integrate the patch, yet (still sub-releases of 3.0.14). or does anyone made other experiences? seems like not many people are using x64 win xp. i

samba errors when using windows xp home edition
Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me with the following problem: I administer 2 separate networks, each with one samba server (samba versions are 3.0.14 and 3.0.22) and serveral windows xp professional clients. There were never any problems, but recently one of the employees bought a laptop with windows xp home that he wants to use in both networks. He does not log on to the domain like

No XP machines in browse list with 3.0.22
Upgraded the domain controllers in our 2 sites from 3.0.20 to 3.0.22. The one running Suse Linux is working fine, but the Solaris 8 domain controller doesn't list any XP machines in its browse list (the Firewall is off on the XP machines). Lists Unix machines, 2000 and 2003 machines. This was all working in 3.0.20. Has anything changed? Below the global part of our smb.conf:

3.0.14 -> 3.0.20a: ldap errors, unable to authenticate or browse
Hello, I was using version 3.0.14 and upgraded to 3.0.20a. I did not change my config, however, I am seeing some serious problems now, and I am not sure what to do about it. I noticed there were a large number of changes between these two versions. I looked at the changes briefly, but there are just so many. This samba server is a domain memmber, on an ADS domain with a win 2003 enterprise

read/write problem - access denied - Red Hat 7.3 - XP connection
Hi there, I successfully connected a windows XP machine with my samba server (red Hat 7.3, samba version 2.2.3a) using SWAT. Problem is that the files on the share aren't writeable as I would expect. Instead, they're only visible as read only. What am I overlooking. Underneath my config file. # Samba config file created using SWAT # from linux (127.0.0.1) # Date: 2002/08/04

Write access doesn't grant delete access?!
Hi all, I've got these permissions set on a folder: $ getfacl htdocs # file: htdocs # owner: root # group: users user::rwx group::rwx group:DOMAIN\134htdocs_access:rwx mask::rwx other::r-x The idea being that any users in the "htdocs_access" group in Active Directory will have full access to this "htdocs" folder, without interfering with the real owner/group of the

Trouble accessing to shortcuts and Writing to Shares in Windows XP (Samba 3.0.22)
I have a Samba server in a SuSE Linux 10.1 installation (x86_64 P IV), installed from SuSE RPMs (Samba 3.0.22). In our test instalation all our clientes works without problem, but from time to time, our users with Windows XP Service Pack 2 get a extrange error when trying to access or write some files. We have isolated the problem to shared folders that have a read and/or write list. We have this

samba3.0.23d group permissions not working
Dear all, I have samba3.0.23d running on FreeBSD 6.1. It is running with "security = ADS" and has been functioning correctly from about 3.0.14 to 3.0.22. Since I upgraded to 3.0.23(a|b|c|d) group permissions are not honoured by Samba. For example: drwxrwx--- 107 setup domain admins 3072 Nov 15 19:25 install The user setup is a windows admin user; this user can access this

Roaming Profile Folders Pulled Over Read-Only
Hello, I'm using Samba 3.0.14a-3 on Debian 3.1 (Sarge). It's functioning as a domain controller for a lot of WinXP SP2 machines. As such, it serves up roaming profiles for most of our staff. I've noticed that all of the folders in the root of the profile are pulled over as read-only. The UNIX permissions for a user's profile on the server is 700, and I'm not sure why

NT Workstation and Samba PDC
Hi. I'm having a big trouble. We migrate a NT PDC to a Samba PDC. No problems in migration. Everything works fine. The problem is: I can't add a NT machine to Domain. Simply does not work. XP and W2K works great. I started using Debian Sarge Package 3.0.14. In this version I could not manage groups using the Domain User Manager from NT. So I updated to 3.0.23cpackages from samba.org.

XP is unable to write to samba shares - Valid users?
I have a client with a linux server with samba installed and I've created users using the smbpasswd command (user1,user2,user3...) but when I go to the XP machines they can see the different shares but are unable to write to the folders or create additional folders based on their user1 and password. I want them to validate themselves to the linux server so that if their domain goes down they

Samba+Ldap: Properties Dialog doesn't show owner, only groups, shares have R attribute set
Hi all, I have a samba PDC on linux (kernel 2.6.16-gentoo-r3, amd64, 2cpu's, samba 3.0.22). My passdb backend is an ldap-server on a different machine. I did an update from a slower machine. The configuration files on the old and new machines are equal. After the update all seems to be OK. I can login on the windows-clients and access the shares on the server. But a closer look shows that

problem after update 3.0.22 -> 3.0.24
Hello everybody, we were running into trouble after upgrading our samba PDC to a new hardware (and a new debian release). Before the upgrade we used 3.0.22 on a debian sarge machine without problems. Moving the installation to a new machine with debian etch (amd64, samba 3.0.24-6etch4) worked good at the first look. A closer look shows the following problems: - a domain member server (samba

cannot write to but read from shares with mount.cifs
Hi list, we have a file server on which Win2k3 (EE) is installed. I can mount my home drive from a linux machine (gentoo with samba-3.0.2a-r2 installed) with my windows account data and mount.cifs. Then I can read files or navigate through the dirs. But if I try to write a file I get "permission denied". If I do the same thing as Administrator no error occurs. Well, one could say

Is there a simple way to let particular windows users have read/write on ALL samba shares?
Hi all, I have a samba server that provides storage for student users. Teachers want to be able to see and copy files from one student directory to another, but students should not be able to see and copy files from other students. I thought defining my teachers as "admin users" would do the trick but it didn't. What is the most rational way to do this? My SAMBA Server is joined to

samba slow writing from XP except w/VNC in background
I fear this is yet another thread that will remain unanswered, but as you can tell from the subject line there's a twist. Basically I am doing an XCOPY from my XP machine to my Linux box running samba 3.0.22. Everything works, but it's very slow for the Gigabit Ethernet it's running on compared with FTP to the same machine and directory with the same files, say 1/10th the speed. So
