smb_request: result -104, setting invalid
I have a number of RedHat 7.3 computers. Kernel 2.4.18-3. Samba version 2.2.3a, installed from RPM that came on the RedHat CD. All the computers share some directories, but I don't think this is the issue. They also mount some windows shares like this: //host/unc /mnt/host/unc smbfs username=admin, password=pwd, workgrou=support, uid=user, gid=user 0 0 Sometimes on access to these shares

smb_request error
Hi, I am running samba 3.0.4 on my fedora box and I have been noticing a message like this showing up in /var/log/messages every hour, on the hour. Problem when importing via tdbedit and then picking up NTConfig.POL
Hi, Just found this out - is it a bug which I should register or is this by design? We had been running a Samba 2.2 server for a few years with a domain called PSCT - everybody very happy (well done guys!). Installed a new server with Samba 3 based on Debian Etch. The new server was set as the domain PSCT2 to keep things clear. Copied all data across to the new server. The new server has

Strange file listing with mounted REV drive
Hi, A client has an Iomega REV drive installed on a PC and this is used for the off-site backups. This drive has disks left in and then that drive on the PC is shared out. I mount the share with mount -t cifs //10.1.1.20/XP61REV /mnt/xp61 -o username=user, password=password,rw and this is mounted on to a Debian Etch / Samba 3.0.24-6 machine. Now when I 'ls' or 'find' this

Errors in /var/log/messages and "dmesg"
A friend of mine is running Samba (samba-2.0.3-8) on a couple RedHat Linux 6.0 machines. He is sharing files bilaterally at work with a WinNT machine and at home with a Win9x machine. In both places, he is getting a large number of SMB error messages. I'm not sure whether these are from the smbfs (smbmount) or from the Windoze machines accessing the Linux drives, though I suspect the

PATCH Add support for kqueue in ioloop subsystem
Hey, I noticed that there was an ioloop "module" (if we can call it that) for select and poll and decided to add one for kqueue (aka kevent) BSDs high performance descriptor multiplexing API. I haven't done any of the configure glue stuff but the code is complete and works well. kqueue is available on all recent versions of FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD and Darwin (and therefore MacOS

Strange samba errors
Hi list members! Probably this one isn't even samba-related, but as I do not fully understand the error messages and this list is read by people who work wokr with samba more often than me, I hope someone can help me. Okay, here is what I've got. I boot knoppix on a workstation and start a script, which backs up the harddrive onto another PC which is running Windows NT Workstation.

chmod + remote save denied = file wiped?
I have a SerNet Samba 4.0.8 AD DC running on CentOS 6.4 (newdc) replicating from a W2K3 DC (olddc). newdc also has a test share. I'm experiencing something strange whereby chmod and then an attempted file save causes a shared file to become zero bytes (despite the save not being blank, and also being denied): At olddc: 1) open \\newdc\testshare\yay.txt At newdc: $ ls -l total 8

Question - technical issue
Hi all, I've read everywhere I could on this issue and it seems no one has yet to find a solution.
