Xen 4.0.x 3,000 second time skew problem
Hi,
I have two installs of Xen 4.0.1 on Debian squeeze dom0s that
occasionally skew the time by 3000 seconds. It is always 3000
seconds and it always affects all guests.
Depending on the kernels in the guests they will say:
tp0 kernel: [9339489.266542] Clocksource tsc unstable (delta = -2999660317697 ns)
or perhaps the kernel doesn''t notice but ntpd does:
ls0 ntpd[15009]:

bizarre system slowness
Running v5 64bit on a Dell 1950.
A cluster of 3 DB machines, identical hardware. One of them suddenly
became slower 2 weeks ago.
tar -zxf with a large file on this machine takes 1.5 minutes, but takes
only 10 seconds on any of its siblings. CPU usage seems high while
untarring, with lots of user and sys cycles being used, but almost no
wait cycles. It doesn't matter whether I untar on a

Use case to test Clock skew on SAMBA4 (4.4.5)
Hi Experts ,
I have a situation where I have to demonstrate that if the time
difference between Samba4 (AD) and Windows Client is more that 5 Min (
as per Kerbrose ) , the user should note be allowed to login via that
windows PC .
When I simulate it I get Clock skew in the logs ( as shown below ) but
the user is allowed to login .

Return error instead of dying on time back skip?
Hello everybody!
Currently, dovecot just kills itself if it detects that time has moved
backwards more than a hardcoded number of seconds. I accept the
reasons, but I do not like to restart dovecot manually after waiting
for time to move forward again. A cron job would not help, because
time might still be wrong when it restarts dovecot.
All our systems run ntpd, but they might be offline

Clock skew on domU, no ntpd
Setup: RedHat/Centos/Sci. Linux 5 update 3,
Dom0: kernel-xen-2.6.18-164.10.1.el5xen 64-bit
(on Dell Poweredge 2950 dual quad-core).
DomU: kernel-xen-2.6.18-164.10.1.el5xen 32-bit, 1 vcpu
6 domU''s per dom0.
We have also seen the same problem with 2.6.18-164.9.1 and 2.6.18-164.6.1
kernels on this branch.
Symptom: On 32-bit domU only (we have never seen 64-bit domU be affected),

real_rip variable addition for dovecot 2.1.10
Timo,
Please check the code. I didn't add it, but a real_lip might be useful
for some people as well. Also, I notice that pop3-proxy is doing a
different xsession than the imap proxy. Is there an xsession standard
that is different between the two, or just an oversight in the code?
Both send the remote address/port, but only imap proxy sends the local
address/port.

NTP and hardware clock
Hi,
I had the following problem today. Because of a misconfigured
network switch one system suddenly didn't have any network.
After a reboot (with the network still unavailable) NTPD refused to start.
Most likely because the initial ntpdate failed to work. I find this
troubling, because when the network was restored, NTPD could have resumed
working (like I'd expect from a true

Re: libvirt beginner needs to create and start VMs entirely on command line
This is offtopic, but related to what you’ve told me so far. I’m having some trouble getting the VNC connection to work. Technically, the “connection” is working fine, but the Windows TightVNC Viewer comes up with an error dialog saying this:
Xsession: unable to start X session --- no "/home/.../.xsession" file, no
"/home/.../.Xsession" file, no session managers, no window

I just setup CENTOS 4.7 with latest patches on DELL server. I also configured NTP point to out time server. I found /var/log/messages file every 20 to 30 minutes will generate a error message :

Where is .xsession-errors
Hi
Yesterday I was using OpenOffice Impress, doing many cut/paste
operations with images, and without any notice/message/warning the
application die. Then I look for ~/.xsession-errors file to see any
signal about the problem, but I realized that ~/.xsession-errors is no
longer present.
This is a new behaviour of X.org ?
I'm running CentOS 4 and

Re: libvirt beginner needs to create and start VMs entirely on command line
I’m confused. You’re asking if I’m able to connect with VNC in response to my comment that I’m unable to connect with VNC?
What I see when I open the viewer on the port is a window titled “<username> X desktop”, with a grey background, an “X” cursor, and an error dialog (with an “okay” prompt) saying what I described before.
Ctrl-Alt-F1 and similar keys do nothing.

domU clock over 23s off
Hey,
I have rather new installation of xen, dom0 is running ntpd and is
perfectly in time. All domU''s are ~23s in future. Running ntpd on
the domU''s seem to have no effect, /proc/sys/xen/independent_wallclock
appears to have no effect. I''m running xen-unstable and 2.6.16-rc4
in AMD64 box.
Any tip would be appricated.
Thanks,

RC1 Zfs writes a lot slower when running X
Hi,
I have OpenSolaris on an Amd64 Asus-A8NE with 2gig of Rams and 4x320 gig sata drives in raidz1.
With dd, I can write at quasi disk maximum speed of 80meg each for a total of 250meg/s if I have no Xsession at all (only console tty).
But as soon as I have an Xsession running, the write speed drops to about 120MB/s.
Its even worse if I have a VBoxHeadless running with an idle win2k3 inside. It

OpenSSH 2.9p2+Kerberos5 on RH7.1 fails
I've been installing OpenSSH 2.9p2 onto several RedHat Linux machines,
after compiling in the GSSAPI/Kerberos5 patch from here:
http://www.sxw.org.uk/computing/patches/openssh.html
I've been using ssh both to let users in via passwords and Kerberos
tickets, and both have been working fine...
except for one irritating machine, which (for no good reason I can see)
fails when using kerberos

Error in xorg-x11-xinit
Hello,
if login as user I get the following error message in
~/.xsession-errors*:
/etc/X11/xinit/Xsession: line 15: unask: command not found
Changing 'unask' to 'umask' seems to fix it. This happens under CentOS
5 and 5.1.

Eggcups printer icon not showing up in panel
I did a "side grade" on a client's machine freom FC2 to Centos4.2. I am
not seeing the eggcups printer icon appear when the user sends a print job.
One problem was that I had to copy /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession.rpmnew into
place so that the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS variable got set correctly.
The messagebus service is running, as well as hal. There is a
notification area in the
