FW: getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I posted my original post to FreeBSD-questions@freebsd.org and since then have had a running dialog with another poster. It now seems I am having trouble with the NSSWITCH function. I am now reporting back to the Samba list in hopes someone can help me out at this point. Can anyone help me out here? ~Doug -----Original Message----- Sent: Friday, September 16, 2005 12:48 PM To: 'Dan

winbindd problem enumrating users and groups
I have been unable to configure a Samba server I am testing to enumerate the users and groups in our local NT domain, but I have been able to configure it to enumerate the users and groups in our W2K domain. I am hoping someone has some suggestions for what to try next. The Samba server is running Linux installed with the XFS RedHat 7.2 installer CD. I get the same results running Samba 2.2.3a

Administrator-installed printers unavailable to regular users
Hi all, I'm having a very strange problem with printers under 3.0.10, running on an up to date Gentoo 2005.0 box. Essentially, if I install a Samba-networked printer on one of our NT workstations as "administrator", it doesn't show up for all the other users of that particular machine. It's as if they don't have any printers installed. What's more, none of these

Showstopper problem: Winbindd no longer starting
Hi, I'm running a samba CTDB setup using default Centos 7.2 repos, fully up-to-date. This is in pre-production so this is quite a nasty problem. Everything was running fine, including after a package update 1-2 days ago. However, this morning I can't get winbind started, CTDB times it out. I've taken the clustering=yes line out of smb.conf, and run winbind at dedug level from the

More Info: Mac permission problems after Debian update
There seems to be a few people having this problem, but not much response. I've dug into the logs, and while I don't know exactly what I am looking at, I think I may have found something that may make sense to someone. A short recap. Samba was working fine, until I did a Debian security update, which upgraded my Samba to 2.2.8a. Now, I can create files on a mounted Samba share in a

fcntl lock failed at large offset: pretty urgent
Debian Woody with security updates Linux kernel 2.2.25 Samba 3.0.0 libc6 2.2.5 The problem I have is with a windows application that uses samba. This application is crucial for the organization, so if this is not fixed, and soon, we will have to ditch Samba and move to a windows server. I *really* don't want to do this, as Samba has been working so well for years now and billg is rich enough

Unable to start winbindd, Could not fetch our SID - did we join?
I've been searching this lists archives and using the Googles for two days now, and keep coming across the same messages from before 2012 with the errors I'm getting, so either I'm seeing something new, or I've missed something stupid. I've been following the HOWTOs here from Samba.org. In each case below, I uninstalled the provided Samba packages and built from source.

Hi all, I've got kind of strange setup, wherein all of my data is on a big NFS server (RH linux 8.0 running the 2.4.18 kernel and nfs-utils 1.0.1-2.80) and my Samba 3.0.0 PDC server (RH linux 7.3 w/ 2.4.18 kernel, nfs-utils 0.3.3-6.73) mounts the NFS export with the following options: rw,vers=3,wsize=8192,rsize=8192,hard,intr This mounted partition is then re-exported to the windows users

EMERGENCY: User profile for Win98 domain logon lost after upgrade to Oct 5 CVS code
Hello all, I'm in very big big trouble here. In an attempt to enable domain logon for NT workstations as well, I fetched the CVS code on Oct 5, 98. I successful built it with no error. I copied the smb.conf from a workable Sambav1.9.18p8 to the Samba2.0alpha. Then I started the smbd and nmbd of Samba2.0alpha. I rebooted one of the Windows 98 (which used to be working happily with

PANIC: Could not fetch our SID - did we join?
Hi, I have some problems running Samba and Winbind 3.0.22 in a AD, kerberos environment. I have seen previous posts on several forums about this problem but haven't found any solution for it yet. I have no problem with the default Samba package that comes with Ubuntu, 3.0.14a. But I do wan't to upgrade and the only option in that case seems to be to compile it. I compiled it with
