Winbind Issues
Hi all, Been having issues trying to get winbind working properly. Basically I need windows Domain controller features such as forcing bad password attempts and group policy etc and use samba as the FileStore. I can kinit nps, I can join the samba machine to the AD (shows up on the windows box too) But when I run wbinfo -u I get ; [root@dev1 bin]# ./wbinfo -u Error looking up domain users

Samba and Windows ACL Issue
Hi all got a bit of and odd problem with ACL. Ive read up on a few bits in the samba howto and read some threads on here about it. Im not sure if this is a bug, something ive not done, doing wrong etc so anyone that could shed some light on it that would be great. Basically the windows box handles all user account processing and during creating a script for all this it will attempt to change the

SV: Samba + AD etc.
Hi Ross! All our windows-clients works well with Samba 3.0.14a (WinXP and TS 2003 sp1). Perhaps the changes made for ADS SP1 somehow can affect ADS 2003 (without sp1) in the same way that ADS 2003 sp1 did for our Samba 3.0.9. But that is only a wild guess. Regards Roland Carlsson Ps: please answer to the list instead to me. Den 05-05-12 11.00, skrev "sysrm"

AW: Tall tale of woe....
Hello Ross, I've got a similar problem since a week with my server. I'm running RH 8.0 on a Xeon 1.4Ghz with 2GB RAM, too. My CPU usage was pretty low (>90% idle) but the CPU load average was at 14. For now I'm waiting for the next time it happens to get some more information. Best regards, Reiner -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: Ross McInnes (Systems)

Slow logon with samba
Hi all. Everything has been running great, untill 2 weeks ago when I applied redhat errata including a new kernel. (done it loads of times before) Rebooted and all seemed ok (it was half term for me, so maybe 20 users in at the very most) It wasn't until last week people started to complain about how long it was taking to log in. unfortunatly everytime I tried it went in straight away. Samba+ldap, Getent and AD (aka the good bad and the downright ugly)
Hi all. I have managed to join my samba server to an AD domain. I can now join using the net command and get various other bits of info. Wbinfo -u /g/t etc works nps Getent however doesn't. This is my question: By reading various emails over the last 2 weeks and various howtos etc In order to share users and passwords etc all I need to do is edit the nsswitch.conf To passwd: compat

Tall tale of woe....
For the last year or so i have been having problems in general with samba (various versions) on the same box. Dell 2500 Xeon 1.8 with 2gb of ram running Redhat 8. What will happen from time to time (although its now happened 3 times in the last 5 days, hence this email) is people will be slow to log in, if at all. Several things appear to happen. The main one is that a smbd process which

Issue with old style dos truncation
Hi there. Recently upgraded from 2.2.9 to 3.05 everything is working great except for one small snag. I noticed it when working on the unattended Win2k installation, when it was copying a more than 8 Character Folder. Normally and certainly on 2.2.9 it would truncate the file name say from DellDrivers to DellDr~1 and would still work. However, it was truncating the file name to D1DRER~B (or

Performance Issues With Samba and RedHat 8.
Appologies if this has been asked before, i have searched the archives and while there are some almost related issues, none really answer my question/problem. Recently (about 4 months ago) we purchased a new Dell 2600 (2.0Ghz Xeon 2GB Ram), Machine (single cpu) and migrated the data and system from rh 6.2 to 8 on this new server. By migrate i mean Installed rh8 fresh and moved the user data

Winbind + smb.conf -- adding "Domain Users" as a valid user
Hi all I have smb 2.2.5 and winbind installed and functioning nicely on one of our linux fileservers. The only thing I am having trouble with is adding NT groups with spaces in their name to smb.conf. For instance: I have the following test shares: [test5] path = /usr/local/test public = yes writable = yes printable = no valid users = AURAN+Test [test6] path =

Boxplot intervals combining names
Hi R users, This seems like a simple problem but I have searched nabble for the answer and can't seem to find it. All I want to do is produce a boxplot where I have two boxes for one Individual but on the xaxis I only have one tick mark centred between the boxes so I can add the Individuals' name. I have 30 IDs and have shown the code I use below for a couple of IDs, I figure the data

Problems connecting to Samba using windows XP
Hi, We are having difficulty connecting to a samba server using windows XP pro. Plain text is enabled and we can search for the server on the network, but as soon as we map a drive to it, it asks for a username and password. We enter this and then it asks for a password relating to a guest account. Can anyone help me with why it defaults to the guest account? Regards Phil This message

Samba-3 by example Ch.3
Hi, I'm following chapter 3 (from the web-site), and I copied and pasted the smb.conf file. I corrected an error (I think) : passwd chat = *New*... : the "=" was missing and then "*New*..." was on the following line. Then I ran testparm -s, and I got an error : ERROR: the 'passwd program' () requires a '%u' parameter. I seem unable to solve this. Any

Patch: FC4 spec file
The patch below modifies the spec file for FC4 RPM builds as follows: 1.) Build binaries using the -lmcheck option; various samba commands and smbd process crash badly without; see, for example: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=164353 2.) The Fedora project's samba RPMS install mount.cifs; it would help to have samba.org's RPMS do the same. It would be nice to

Forcing Users to change passwords.
Hi, Samba-3 with LDAP backend is capable in this. I'm using it and it works. All you have to do, is to use LDAP and set proper account policies: $ pdbedit -P "bad lockout attempt" -C 5 (after 5 wrong password, user account will be locked out - samba sets password hashes to ***NOPASSWORD*** and user is unable to logon). $ pdbedit -P "min password length" -C 9 # password
