Analysis of Variance with Random Effects
Hello!
I am currently trying to perform an ANOVA with random effects in R, but
failed in finding the correct code.
Does a code exist for performing an ANOVA with random effects similar to
"aov" or "anova" for fixed effects?
Thanks for your help and best wishes

menu.c32 - Return from sub-menu
I am new to SYSLINUX/PXELINUX and it is great! Thanks!
Looking around the archives for uses/examples for the simple menu
(menu.c32) for our implementation (DOS boot with networking support for
various NICs), and it occurred to me that I might want to go back to the
main menu if I ended up in the wrong sub-menu. Also would be useful if
one needed to create multiple levels of menus and wanted to

winbind nsswitch problem
Greetings list,
I'm using samba 3.0.23a on a Fedora Core 5 system in a member server
role in an Active Directory domain (security ads). My problem is that,
although wbinfo -u and -g work great and can pull user and group lists
respectively from AD, getent passwd and getent group do not. I've
configured passwd: files winbind and group: files winbind in
nsswitch.conf, and have

SPSS and library(foreign)
Hi,
I have a valid SPSS .sav file (which I can open happily in SPSS v11 on

In addition: Warning message: HSE.sav:

Generate a serie of new vars that correlate with existingvar
Hello, list
why not add the smart proposal by Greg Snow as a built-in function in
{stats},
just changing the "x234" and "newc" lines to allow for more
distributions to be generated ?
Or do I miss an already existing function to do that ?

is.na(v)<-b (was: Re: Beginner's query - segmentation fault)
I think the thread ended up with several people (not only me)
feeling certain they didn't like `is.na<-` but with the
developers defending it and me not really understanding
why.
Uwe Ligges was going to come up with an example of
`<- NA` going wrong (sorry Brian R, I mean behaving
unexpectedly), but never did, and I think the problem
has been fixed. It was apparently a problem with

I am working with sp pakage and akima

row-echelon form (was no subject)
I think one needs an LU decomposition rather than QR.
However, I couldn't find anything off the shelf to do
an LU, other than learning that determinant() now
uses LU instead of QR or SVD, so the code to do it must
be in there for those that want it.
You'll probably need to divide rows of U by the first
entry if you insist on the unique reduced REF.
However, I can't see any reason

changing memory limits to speed up lsoda
Hi All,
I am running R 2.2.0 on Mac OS 10.4.2, dual G5 processors with 8 Gig
RAM.
I am running a simulation with lsoda that requires ~378 s to complete
one set of time intervals. I need to optimize the parameters, and so
need to considerably speed up the simulation.
I have tried to figure out how to change the appropriate memory
allocation and have search R help and Introductory

Asterisk Log rotate not working
Hi,
Last year, I installed Asterisk 10.4.2 and enabled logrotate on daily basis
which was working perfect. Now in couple of months back, the logrotate
feature is not working at all but simply appending the logs in 'messages'
file. Listing down down the configuration for logrotate below;

Files and printer sharing at Win 9x and Win NT Workstation
Hi Guys,
I'm having some problems with my domain, I'm running Samba at a Debian
Box as PDC for a Win NT Workstation Lab, a Win95 Lab and some W98
boxes. I also run Samba in Solaris 2.6 , the both work just fine, but I
can't share printers, disks, or files, since I can't see the users list.
(this happens with the both: Solaris'Samba and the Debian's Samba).
If I try to

Cannot login to PDC(FreeBSD boxen) from client(win XP)
I'm finally getting somewhere in setting up my FreeBSD PDC. I try and
login via my XP client and now it gives me this odd message. "Cannot
login because a duplicate user already exists on the network. Please
goto control panel and system and change your computer name." Sorta
paraphrased there, perhaps off by a word or two but that's pretty much
what it tells me. I'm just

Samba 2.2.5 as Wins-Server with Win XP workstation.
Hello,
if i set my samba-server as wins-server in the XP wokstation, the
workstation can't find the samba DC for domainlogon. The DC and the Wins are
on the same system. Without the wins-settings on the XP-box, domainlogons
are possible. This problem is not with a NT 4.0-workstation.
Can anybody help me ??

Full_Name: Jonathan Paisley
Version: 2.1.1
OS: Mac OS X 10.4.2
Submission from: (NULL) (81.178.107.67)
I was following an example from library/grid/doc/grid.pdf ("Introduction to
grid") and had the following code, where I'd mis-typed 1,3 instead of 1,2 as the
first arguments to grid.layout.
Sourcing this code causes the R GUI to crash. I've enclosed a partial backtrace

Write performance of Win XP Pro sp2 & Samba
I have a file testing program that creates, writes and indexes a file on the server from the Windows client.
On xpp sp1 the program takes 7 sec to write file and 8 sec to read the indexed file.
After telling the Firewall to go away I can get the following numbers from xpp
sp2;
29..30..45 (tested multiple times) sec to write the file
and 7..8 sec to read the file. Any ideas on why the

Help installing Win on MacBook Pro
My son is taking some programming courses in school and it would be very helpful if he could run Visual Studio on his Mac. I own older VB5 and Visual Studio 6 (from my old PC days).
[Embarassed] I cannot figure out how to install Wine on his Mac.
Can someone please guide me (e.g. show me all the steps I need to follow to install Wine) so that I can then install VB5 and VS6?
