permission/acl troubles
Hi list,
Since I've upgraded from samba 3.0.23c to 3.0.25c my ACL's don't work as
expected anymore. I'm not sure where the problem is, however. The symptoms
are simple: with 3.0.23c, I could grant and revoke user, group and world
write access to and from files in a share. With 3.0.25c, I can't do that
anymore. When I deselect group or world read access and apply the

share write access
Hi,
I am testing share parameters, and have the following share definition:
## Section - [shareA]
[shareA]
path = /tmp/shareA
writelist = user1
and do not understand why user1 cannot write files in the share when
connected as user1. Unix permissions for the share files are rw for
everyone, and the share directory has wide-open permissions. Samba version
is 3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE.

2 Servers different gid?
Hi All,
I have 2 servers both running a compiled version of samba and winbind. They
use my Windows Active Directory for user authentication via kerberoes. All
that works fine and I can see and authenticate as any user. Every user on
both machines have the same uid, the problem is the groups from the windows
domain have different gid?s on each of the servers. I am using nfs to export

Help needed: strange issue with share mapping at logon
Hello all,
I've run into an issue while migrating a client's Samba PDC from Debian
3.x to OpenSuSE 10.3, have been beating my head against it for over a
week, and am now turning to the mailing list for help.
We're running Samba 3.0.26a-3-1478-SUSE-SL10.3 authenticating against
OpenLDAP 2.3.37. Integration of Samba and OpenLDAP works, and importing

Windows NT "network path was not found."
Hello,
I've been trying to get my Windows NT computer to access directories and
printing from a Debian 3.0 host running Samba 2.2.3. The NT computer
recognises my host computer named minikerr, however I always receive the
error message "the network path was not found." I have authentication
enabled in my smb.conf file and have created smbpasswd for each user. If

Hi All,
I downloaded a fresh cd (Debian 3.1) to install a Printserver with.
I've come to the bit that I can run cupsaddsmb, and expected it to
run smbclient to add the drivers to the print$ share, and then
rpcclient to do the "addriver" part and finaly the "setdriver" part.
Unfortunatly, it is doing only the setdriver part,

Password Problem
Hi there,
I'm having a little trouble with Samba ( duh, otherwise I wouldn't be
writing to this list :)). It used to work just fine, but after I
reinstalled my linux box, and samab with it I'm having a little trouble
with the passwords. When I logon using my normal user account, and try
to set my Samba password I get this error:
$ smbpasswd

Permissions assignment problem
Hey there,
I am, for the first time, playing around with Samba seriously (mainly
thinking about replacing NFS with it). I'm using a Linux 2.6.x client
with the cifs.ko kernel module/filesystem type.
I've found that I can't change the permissions on files to arbitrary
values; they must not be greater than the bits specified in 'create
mask' (and friends). The problem appears

Can't join a computer to my Samba PDC.
Hello,
I have installed Samba 3.0.22 amd 64 from Debian installed.
Samba is working perfectly well a file server.
But I can't join a computer to it either via a Win2K client or using
the "net rpc join" command.
Winbind,smbd and nmbd are running.
I receive messages like "given identification informations conflict with

URGENT: Samba Won't Substitute %u In "Logon *" When LDAP Is Used
Version: 3.0.14a (debian stable: 3sarge1)
I'm just about finished converting our company's network from NIS to
LDAP. Part of that involved updating Samba to use that same directory
so all the information is maintained in one place.
Most everything is good, except that my roaming profiles won't work. My
smb.conf file is attached.
Upping the log level eventually showed messages

Problem with samba-pdc
I'm making a samba/pdc server with windows (2k e xp) clients. For now,
that's ok, but I got some errors:
- Some files (ex.: /home/silvana) don't show up in Windows Explorer.
I've already checked on the server and all files of /home/silvana are
into the server, but windows explorer don't show them. All the files
are .doc. An interesting thing is that if we put the complete

Loosing Samba Shares Across Segments
I have two Samba servers configure similarly. One shares fine across our
entire network and the other only works within its own segment. I have
poured over the smb.conf files and cannot see what it preventing the one
from crossing segments. These both are Debian 2.2 boxes and I am just
modifying the default smb.conf files. I am hoping a fresh pair of eyes will
help. Any help would be greatly

smbd reads entire directory when creating files?
Apologies if this is a FAQ.
We are saddled with some directories full of production image files that
number in the hundreds of thousands to the millions. (Yes, I know this
is bad.) They reside on a couple of Win 2003 boxes that are flaky and
unreliable. I was hoping to copy them over to a Linux box running samba
but it is taking forever.
A strace on the smbd process receiving the files
