--delete-before doesn't seem to actually be deleting before transfer
I have a script transferring some backup files onto a USB stick, which has limited space. I use rsync 3.0.5 with the following command: rsync -av --delete-before /local/backups/dir/backup1_todaysdate /local/backups/dir/backup2_todaysdate /local/backups/dir/backup3_todaysdate /USBstick/backups/dir The USB stick runs out of space if more than 1 backup set is put on it, so I'd assumed that by

systemd automount of cifs share hangs
Running latest CentOS 7.5. Since I found out about automount unit files I've had mixed results using them to mount shares from my NAS. Lately they seem to hang if I touch the mount point, but I can start the mount unit without problems. I had it working months ago, so I'm thinking something changed in the systemd updates. For each mount point, I have two files in /etc/systemd/system

samba and automount
I'm running Samba with automount to automatically mount CDs in a server. These CDs need to be changed periodically, so I wanted to use automount so that they could be changed by the users fairly easily. We use logon scripts to map the CDs to drive letters when users logon. Unfortunately, it seems that having a drive mapped is treated like the drive is being used, so as long as there is

How to trigger automount of USB drives in Centos6
In brief: Is there is anyway to trigger the same automount mechanism, that X appears to use, on unmounted USB drives that are already connected? Background: I've got a C6 server with default desktop GUI installed for the sake of the onsite admin. There is a bash script I wrote that runs every night checking for specific folders on any drive and dumps data into it. To ensure fs integrity, I

LDAP and Automount
Alle, I'm following the instructions in section 19.3.3.2 of the docs @ http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.1/Deployment_Guide/s2-nfs-config-autofs-LDAP.html, but I cannot add the following entry in LDAP: dn: automountMapName=auto.home,dc=subaru,dc=nao,dc=ac,dc=jp objectClass: top objectClass: automountMap automountMapName: auto.home After looking at the schemas in /etc/openldap/schema,

good solution for "automount" homes
All, On our main file server, all our home directorys are automount points. So /home isn't a real filesystem area, it points to a bunch of different home areas based on the auto.direct table. Example: /home/user1 mounts from --> /export/home1/user1 /home/user2 mounts from --> /export/home2/user2 /home/user3 mounts from --> /export/home2/user3 /home/user4 mounts from -->

automount complaints
Folks, I've been getting complaints in our logfiles, such as May 12 10:07:07 <servername> automount[3415]: update_negative_cache: key ".git" not found in map. a) Is there a FAQ on automount that might cover some of this? Googling hasn't found one for me? b) Any clues as to what might be causing this? I see a lot of it, in spurts. mark

Booting disk images with syslinux?
Is it possable to boot a diskimage with syslinux? So often I run into bios upgrade disks images or can easily create a disk image and would like an easy way to just boot these images. I know isolinux does this and I vagely remember using it to make a bootable windows 95 cd back in the day. It worked to. It would be nice if I could just copy the disk image to a usbstick and use syslinux to boot

NFS automount failure
I'm having a problem with automount (autofs) from a server running CentOS 5.4 to clients (example is CentOS 5.4). Client pulls automount maps from NIS. THIS particular server is also used for login so it is NIS bound as well (other servers are NOT). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NIS Server Side... Centos 5 card reader automount
To this point, whenever I've plugged a storage device (flash drive, mp3 player) into a USB plug, it's magically mounted and I get an icon on my desktop. I've just got a card reader and it doesn't automount. I can mount it manually with "mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/temp" and that works fine. I would prefer to have it automount and give me the desktop icon. Unfortunately, I

Using other automount maps
Environment: HP-UX 10.20 Samba 1.9.18p10 ; compiled with -DAUTOMOUNT option. We are using our samba server to mount various automounted directories including user's home. auto.home map takes care of mounting user's home automagically but for other directories, I have to put a share name for each of them (and there are hundreds of them). Is it possible to define one share name (like

odd automount issue
We're seeing, in the log, automount trying (and failing) to mount a few directories NFS in the middle of the night. For example: 03:49:50 <my own workstation> automount[7872]: key "httpd" not found in map source(s) It doesn't seem to be triggered by the pen testers, nor by logs (I think), so we're all at a loss to guess what's triggering this. Automount configuration problem
I have a simple automount configuration problem. I've done two similar, clean, Custom installations of CentOS 5.0, on two similar, but not identical boxes. On my box, automount is working perfectly. On my daughter's box, it's not working. If I put the FC6 DVD into the drive in my box, I can see the contents of the DVD, without any problem. If I cat /etc/mtab in my box, I see this line:
