wine hangs on first run
I'm using a fresh install of Fedora Core 5 with the RPM install of Wine 0.9.12. When I run winecfg, it says "wine: creating configuration directory '/home/vince/.wine'..." as I expect it to. Following that is many lines of "Font metrics" progress with a few "fixme:font" messages. Nothing seems too unusual. But, when it gets to "Font metrics:

Latest CVS: no fonts?
Is this bug 5057? ... I've just installed the latest version of wine from CVS and created a new .wine directory. Upon running winecfg, there are no letters on any of the buttons or tabs. After reading the text of bug 5057, I checked .wine/drive_c/windows/fonts and there are no files. I copied and pasted all of the font files from the equivalent location in one of my backups to this

Samba getting user info from NT PDC
Hi! My boss asked me to be able to share some directories on a FreeBSD Samba server with users already created (and used) on a NT 4.0 PDC server. So I followed http://www.sugoi.org/bits/index.php?bit_id=10 I just replaced the Windows 2k part by adding the NetBIOS name of the machine to the NT PDC. When I did the smbpasswd trick it worked like charm: testsmb# smbpasswd -j CH-DOMAIN -r PDC

unix_primary_group = yes don t work
thanks for the answer, Louis. i m talking about the userhome dir. I ve already read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders and i m applying the posix acls to my share. As the users's home is shared between windows and linux, i d rather use the posix acls than the windows ones. Beside the homedir of my users have a form like /home/ first letter of name /login ( ex : /home/d/dare

windows clients can't see workgroup at all
I'm trying to troubleshoot a new samba setup on a tiny network, and I'm clearly missing something. I'm running Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu Linux. When I first set it up, it seemed to go so smoothly. I changed all the workstations to the same workgroup (RABNETWORK) and they could see each other and the server, but they couldn't open anything on the server. I don't really understand

I have searched through several distributions and the SYSLINUX package seems to be by far the easiest to work with..
