Creating a PDC
I am working my way through "Samba-3 by Example". I have created all the simple samba servers with ease as I have done them in the past with trial and error... this book makes it easy now. I'm stuck. While on page 118 it says to not go further without validating. Well, The server is there and when browsing the network I can see the Samba server. When I try to connect it wants

Finding the UID of samba users
Hi Folks: I am in the process of moving all of our users over to our new Samba File server which runs FC3. In order to properly secure the home folders, I need to chown them to the UID of the individual user, and chgrp them to the domain users group. I know the GID for the domain users, so no problem there. Is there a way to find a list of the UID for all the users. I know that I can do it

oplocks, QuickBooks (Samba 3)
Hi there, Can somebody please explain to me why Samba 3 requires 'oplocks = no' on shares for programs like Quickbooks to operate properly with multiple users, where Samba 2 didn't? Without this option, Quickbooks will complain about file corruption when a second user tries to open a file. This option, however, makes the particular share that the option is present in _very_ slow

linux auth against SAMBA PDC

Current setup: Linux server with Samba as the PCD Windows 2k and XP workstations are on the Samba domain and authenticate all users with the Samba PDC. Wants: Linux server with Samba as the PCD Windows 2k and XP workstations are on the Samba

Strange behavior when plotting with ggplot2 and lattice
Hi all, I have the following script, which won't plot (tried in RGUI and also in Eclipse StatET): library(ggplot2) # for plotting results userids <- c(1,2,3) for (userid in userids){ qplot(c(1:10), c(1:20)) } print ("end") No plot shows up. If I run the following: library(ggplot2) # for plotting results userids <- c(1,2,3) for (userid in userids){ blabla))) qplot(c(1:10),

3.0.25 smbclient problem
I updated all my servers to 3.0.25 early this morning. Everything seems 100% A-OK except for the most surprising thing, all my Windows and Macintosh clients, no problems. But I'm having severe difficulty with the 3.0.25 smbclient. If I use smbclient from 3.0.24 it too can connect to my 3.0.25 servers without issue. Its bizarre. Before I go into it let me say, I've got some 3.0.25

RoR, pg_connections, and pg_users
In a RoR application, is it possible to have individual userids associated with particular sessions employed to establish their related connections to the postgresql DBMS backend and, if so, is this design desireable? What are the implications for performance and future deployment limitations? The idea behind this question is that in our application certain tables require that the last

Can I translate the userid to match the UW-POP3 server?
OK, I have been running the UW-POP3 server which currently translates all login ids as lowercase (i.e. Anthony becomes anthony). Now the Dovecot server is very flexible and currently I have not found how to translate the upper case characters to lowercase. What configuration setting will translate the userids to lowercase? -- Albert E. Whale, CHS CISA CISSP Sr. Security, Network, Risk

avoid a loop
Let's suppose I have userids and associated attributes... columns a and b a <- c(1,1,1,2,2,3,3,3,3) b <- c("a","b","c","a","d","a", "b", "e", "f") so a unique list of a would be id <- unique(a) I want a matrix like this... [,1] [,2] [,3] [1,] 3 1 2 [2,] 1 2 1 [3,]

Query re winbind, primary group enumeration from Active Directory and Services For Unix
Query re winbind, primary group enumeration from Active Directory and Services For Unix I am wondering if anyone can explain to me how the GIDs work when using winbind to extract them from an ADS server. I have Unix servers running AIX 5.3 ML-10, an ADS server running Win 2003-SP2 with SFU 3.5 installed. I have been configuring the Unix servers as domain members and using winbind to extract the

Query question
I have an index in which I want different records to be accessible to different users. I think I can do this by adding a "users" field to each record in the index and narrow down my queries to only those records matching the current user''s userid. I have the userids separated by commas. What would be the right way to query for a certain user? I have to make sure that I

'multi-layered' authentication
I need to allow [read] access to a Samba server using both IP filtering & UserIDs . For a given list of IP subnets, any user should have access. Outside these 'trusted' subnets, I need to do User authentication. I can handle the User authentication OK in several ways. However, I don't see any way to do the 'short circuit' allow for some IPs, then use User authentication

Problem with svn/apache
I hope someone can help me with this b/c I'm stumped... I had set up an svn repository a while ago with an apache/webdav front end using the default centos packages. For some reason this morning it stopped working for me - it would give me a 403 error. I suppose the problem is with Apache and not svn. So far I've checked the following: I use a couple of files called svn_htpasswd_file

fetchmail SSL protoco; issue
I am using fetchmail to collect mail from some secondary mail accounts, among which is hotmail. So far I have used hotwayd to fetch the mail from hotmail using httpmail. Hotmail now supports pop3 access, so I decided to change fetchnail to fetch the mail directly over pop3. This works, but whatever I try, I get an error message when I run fetchmail: Invalid SSL protocol 'SSLv23'

[URGENT! PLZ HELP!] Problems when moving a Samba installation from one Linux box to another
Hello all, We just bought a new server to migrate our Samba installation, but we are facing some problems with it. Both machines run Samba 2.2.7 configured as PDC for our domain. When migrating, I copied /etc/samba/smb.conf and smbpasswd, and adjusted smb.conf to listen to the new server's IP address. Now all users can log on to the domain and access the Samba shares, but no-one can

weird "valid users" trouble in 3.0.24
Dear Samba List, I just updated my samba setup from an older Version (3.0.22) to 3.0.24 (Debian Version). Now unfortunately "valid users" does not work anymore. I have a Samba Server with security=ADS (win 2003 SP2 Domain Controller) in an all local Unix Users Setup! Thus all my usernames are available either way, by Unix "getent" and "winbind -u". Probably this

Append to csv without header
Hi, I am writing a function that writes to a csv file for every call. However, for the subsequent calls, I want to append the data to the existing csv file without appending the column names again. I tried searching in the previous posts, but I am stuck with different errors. Here is what I am doing (dataF is a data-frame):- outputFilePath <- paste(getwd(), "/",
