winbind rid changing user's UID and GID numbers - Samba 3.6
Greetings, For a number of samba iterations I've been using Samba with winbind to keep AD users's UNIX UIDs and GIDs the same across several systems. I don't run the Active Directory set-up and those that do are NOT going to make any alterations to make my life easier. So i have always used idmap_rid to keep consistent UID/GID numbers across all my UNIX machines. This has

winbind + consistent uid & gid
I am trying to get out Linux boxes to authenticate against our AD domain. We have that part working just fine using Kerberos and winbind. The problem is when we use NFS on multiple machines. As you could guess, the UIDs and GIDs are not consistent across all of the machines. From what I have been reading on the internet, this seems to be common problem, but all the solutions that I have found

UID and GID mappings
With a smb.conf like the following where does samba store the UID to GID mappings? Is there a way to view this? Also can't I use a method that converts SIDs to UIDs and GIDs on a consistent basis? winbind: how to fix uid/SID mapping following migration to a new DC
Hi there. Our IT moved all the user accounts to a new domain controller. It wasn't much of a migration, more so a complete setup on a new machine, new OS, new domain ; it just happens that the username and group names remained the same. I have been asked to look after the migration of the existing unix servers (linux and freebsd running samba 3.4). All the unix machine use winbind for

FreeBSD winbind UID/GID mapping weirdness
Quick summary: On FreeBSD 10, Winbind is giving me locally mapped UIDs & GIDS, rather than the ones specified in AD. I have two test member servers set up. A CentOS server running Sernet Samba 4.1.6 and a FreeBSD server running Samba 4.1.6 built from source. On CentOS, "getent group {group name}" gives me the correct GID assigned in AD. On FreeBSD I am given a value from the

UID/GID -> SID -> NAME mapping across multiple DCs
Interesting... How do I go about getting them/keeping them in sync? help needed about SID to UID/GID mapping
Dear all I need some advise with respect to SID/UID/GID mapping. The server runs Samba 3.5.8 as a member of an AD (w2k8) domain. Our UNIX UIDs are taken from the 1000-60000 range with about 10000 allocated accounts. 99% of user IDs exist in AD with the same name. For that reason we rely on the "nss" idmap backend which is non-allocating. The problem comes with the group mappings.

idmap_rid problem - winbindd_sid_to_uid: Could not get uid for sid
In a ADS(Adv Serv 2003) setup with a few linux members, I'd like to achieve consistent UIDs for domain users across these linux machines, and idmap_rid seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. However, I cannot get winbind to create uids or gids from SIDs at all. Any hints? --Erik S. Johansen ares samba # smbd -V Version 3.0.10 ares samba # pwd /var/cache/samba ares samba # rm *.tdb

UID/GID -> SID -> NAME mapping across multiple DCs
This isn't necessarily an issue (I don't think) but more so a curiosity. How are UIDs mapped to SIDs and then SIDs mapped to names in Samba4 across multiple DCs? I set up my DCs using Louis' how tos ( https://github.com/thctlo/samba4/tree/master/howtos). All of my DCs smb.confs have the line "idmap_ldp:use rfc2307 = yes" My policies folder under \sysvol\domainname\ has

Winbind UID/GID unification across multiple machine solution
I developed a solution to the problem where you might have systems setup w/ winbind mapping GIDs and UIDs, NSS, and PAM setup so windows users can login, but winbind maps possible different UIDs/GIDs from system to system preventing unified UIDs/GIDs in your environment. I tried having one box setup with NSS winbind / PAM etc. plus I made that system an NIS master w/ a script to periodically pull

Manual UID & GID mapping with Active Directory
Greetings, I'm looking how I can set manually the GID & UID of my Active Directory users into Samba & Winbind. I have several server linux using Samba and they are linked to Active Directory to get users & groups. On all my Linux system I did a "net join ads". Also I set this option in all smb.conf: idmap uid = 20000-30000 idmap gid =

winbind: idmap_rid - no user mapping
Hello, I've some trouble with winbind and the idmap_rid feature in an ADS environment. (Opteron with Debian 3.1pure64, official Samba/Winbind packet 3.0.14a) Without "idmap backend = idmap_rid:...." in the smb.conf a "getent passwd" works fine. Then I delete the /var/lib/samba/*.tdb-files, activate idmap_rid in smb.conf (see below) and join the ADS-Domain once more -

Consistent Inter-Samba UID/GID Mappings
Hi everyone, I'm trying to ensure my various Samba3 fileservers have consistent Samba User/Group -> Linux UID/GID mappings between them. The domain is controlled by a Samba4 DC. Samba3 is used because it's maintained in the distributions that we have deployed already. I believe that using Winbind with idmap_rid is probably the easiest way to accomplish this, however I have had no

Unable to map SID to uid or gid...
Hi. I have a problem with mapping SIDs to uids in Samba 2.2.6pre2. I am using Mandrake linux 8.2 with acls, and samba acting as PDC on my local net. My problem is what when I viewing permissions on my test WinXP box, it shows to me SIDs, but not a user or group, and of cource everyone... For example, I created user "test" on my linux box and added him to smbpasswd. Then, when I logon

UID GID mapping with sssd no longer supported on samba 4.7.4?
I'm struggling with a permission problem on a samba server that is configured to resolve unix uids and gids via nss using sssd. This mostly works. The windows side sees files as being owned by SID=S-1-22-<unix uid of user> and the group is SID=S-1-22-<unix gid of group> This all works fine for files owned by the windows user, or files that are world readable, but fails for

When I start linux machine and immediately ofter logging in I try to check trust secret by running wbinfo -t I receive this error: checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed error code was NT_STATUS_DOMAIN_CONTROLLER_NOT_FOUND (0xc0000233)

UID/GID mapping consistency across at least two Linux machines
I have two SAMBA machines they both successfully joined to the same Active Directory (actually SAMBA 4) I have copied the user files from *server 1* to *server 2* /owner id/ and /group id/s are preserved. on server 1, when is do: *id user1* I get *2001* but on server 2 the same user has different id. This is actual for groups as well i.e different id's. *smb.conf*s are identical --

winbind v3.0.26a w. nss info = sfu; wbinfo fine, getent not
wbinfo can turn names into sids, sids into names, and sids into uids. However, getent passwd only finds users in the local /etc/passwd file. Same for getent group. /etc/nsswitch.conf says this: passwd: files winbind group: files winbind shadow: compat I strace'd the getent command. It said it couldn't find /lib/libnss_winbind.so.2, so I made that a symlink to
