Password expiration
Hello,
I still can't figure out why my users' passwords are expiring. Ever since we
switched to LDAP, passwords expire every 14 days. Here is an example LDAP user
entry:

# Generated by phpLDAPadmin ( http://phpldapadmin.sourceforge.net/ ) on

LDAP and password expiry
Hello,
We are using Samba 3.0.14a-6, slapd 2.2.26-4 and smbldap-tools 0.9.1-2 on
Debian. My users are complaining about warnings that their password is about to
expire and that the are told "You do not have permission to change your
password" when they try to change it. sambaAcctFlags includes the X flag which
I thought meant "don't expire passwords." The password changing

After migrating users to ldap, passwords still stored in passdb.tdb
I am running Samba ver 3.0.33 on Solaris 10 (sparc.) Initially I had
the server configured as a domain controller with the "passdb backend
= tdbsam" option. The underlying unix accounts were stored in LDAP
(Sun Directory Server.) Those accounts are also used for non-Samba
services.
Since I have domain trusts with NT domains, I am using winbind and
idmapping. The idmap data was

Another State Of The Punctuation Mark question - Vonage
There was a flurry of "Vonage is going to unlock SIP" activity last
year; did anything productive ever come of it?
Are *you* using your Vonage lines directly into Asterisk?
In lieu of that, for a 4 line small business that doesn't need to pay
Vonage $150 a month, who? Broadvoice? Someone else?
I'm a touch unimpressed with the fact that BV's website *won't quote

[wishlist, patch] Removing .bzr/ directory when calling R CMD build (PR#10625)
Full_Name: Ben Goodrich
Version: 2.6.1
OS: Debian
Submission from: (NULL) (128.103.222.166)
bzr is another version control system and adds a .bzr folder to the top-level
directory of a package, similar to .svn and .git for subversion and git
respectively. However, while R CMD build removes directories called .svn, .git,
and some others, it does not remove .bzr . As a result, the .bzr folder is

Can't get 3.0.23d from SuSE RPM to be a member in an NT4 domain
Been working with Samba back to 1.9 or so, but this is the first time
I've tried to set it up as a domain member server.
I followed (I think) the instructions on how to do this in TOSHARG
(which are about as disjointed as the book, which I took back), but I
continue to be unable to get the box, running winbind, to reliably
authenticate users off the PDC, which is running NT4 (and I'm not

You thought that Steve suggesting JT step in was abusive?
If that's not what you meant, then you need to either a) be clearer, or
b) reply to the proper message.

Quota (and disk usage) is incorrectly reported on nfs client mounting XFS filesystem
hi all,
I hope you can help me with a strange quota/nfs/XFS behavior...
I'm using Centos 5.6 on both a nfs server and client. Both are
64-bit, and using a recent kernel:

"Fixing the Caller-ID Problem", by John Todd for O'ReillyNet
This seems like a piece members of this list would find interesting...
===
There is growing concern over the interaction of VoIP systems
with the legacy PSTN, and the transmission of caller identity
data--most notably, Caller ID on the PSTN. It is not always
possible, or obvious how, to handle Caller ID data when moving
to or from VoIP and the PSTN networks. There are even business

Breakage on Debian unstable, be careful with upgrades
Ben Goodrich alerted me to some breakage coming from read.dcf() meaning you
can no longer install or upgrade R packages. ChenLiang Xu was eagle-eyed and
related this to gzfile() and he and Johannes Fichting confirmed that a
downgrade to zlib1g from testing fixes things.
Ben already filed a Debian bug report, you can see the gory details at

Replication errors with LDAP and problems with NT machines
Hi all!
I work as a computer technician for a small school and have recently
upgraded our network to use samba servers. Our main computers are a PDC,
a BDC, a file server and a backup server, all using Red Hat Fedora Core
3 as a base. The clients on our network consist of machines with Windows
XP and a few with Windows NT.
Everything seems to work just fine except for some minor but annoying

[wishlist, patch] make row() and col() preserve dimnames (PR#13705)

row(x), col(x), and functions that call them like lower.tri(x) and upper.tri(x)
do not retain the rownames or colnames of x in the matrix that is returned.
Example from R version 2.9.0 :
x <- matrix(1:9, nrow = 3, ncol = 3)
rownames(x) <- LETTERS[1:3]
colnames(x) <- letters[1:3]

ldap passwd sync on 3.0.25a
I have an strange issue with ldap passwd sync = only

I have the OpenLDAP smbk5pwd overlay which successfuly
synchronizes LM and NT passwords:

sambaNTPassword does NOT write to master LDAP when machines auto change the values
We have SuSE SLES9 servers with LDAP master/slave replication (24

All working fine -joining domain etc.
The problem I am having is PC's at remote sites (BDC) with a local
replica (OpenLDAP) periodically change the
sambaNTPassword/sambaLMPassword on there own and write to the local LDAP
server and do NOT follow the referral to the master.

Machine accounts by migrating from smbpasswd to ldapsam
Hi all,
I'm wondering what about machine accounts (WinXP) by migrating from
Samba 2.2.8 with authentication backend /etc/smbpasswd to Samba 3.0.4
with ldapsam.
Is it possible just to take NT hash from smbpasswd and paste it to
ldap record as sambaNTPassword?
I'm not able to login from machine vs3 to new domain. My
configuration files and log files follow. The Samba-SID is the same
