profiles when swapping samba servers
I have a network of mixed W2k and XP clients with an ancient Samba 2.2.2 server. The old Samba box is set up to allow roaming profiles (logon path=\\%L\%U\.profile, same for logon home), but recently all the users' profiles have been changed to 'local'. Over the weekend I attempted to replace the Samba box with a new one running RHES4 (Samba 3.0.14.) I had the smb.conf set to allow

incompatibility between roaming profiles and winxp clients that didn't create them
[samba v3.0.24, gentoo w/ kernel 2.6.15] I'm hoping someone has some insight into the following problem that I've recently encountered: Basically, winxp seems to be creating roaming profiles that are incompatible with another winxp client. I've got two sets of winxp clients, which I'll call 'new' and 'old'. Profiles created (and perfectly usable) by the old

roaming and local profiles on same domain
I have samba 3 configured and running fine as a PDC with LDAP as the back end user database. I have most users using roaming profiles but there are a few I would like to be able to only have local profiles. Is it possible to configure samba to use both types of profile rather than one or the other. I have the profile path set on each user account in LDAP as the field

Vista laptop in Samba 3.3.4 domain suddenly trying to use roaming profiles?
Grettings, all I have a bizarre problem on a laptop in my Samba 3.3.4 domain. This domain includes a mixture of XP Pro and Vista Ultimate clients. I had just completed a migration to this new domain (from a Samba 2.2.8a domain), and all seemed happy and well - machines had rebooted and were still active in the domain, users were logging in with no problem, shares were working perfectly - all

Roaming Profile problems
Hi, we are using samba 3.0.10-17 with openlddap 2.2.6-37.22 as backend. We use roaming profiles, but because of problems with different operating systems and the profile size, we want to use locale profiles. I tried to change logon path in smb.conf in an emty string, but no changes, if I delete this entry in smb.conf, samba use a default value and this is on the server. So I tried to change

Is there a way to support both local and roaming profile with one server / domain?
Recent list messages got me thinking... Is there a way to support both local and roaming profile with one server / domain? As I understand it, the "magic" line that tells Samba not to do roaming profiles is the smb.conf line: logon path = Which the line must exist, and must be set to null. But that is in the global section. So is there a way to support both local and roaming...

Samba 3.3.15 Ignoring "Logon Path" and "Logon Home" to Disable Roaming Profiles
Hi All, I have recently successfully configured Samba 3.3.15 and OpenLDAP as my offices PDC. I would like to disable the roaming profiles capability but it appears that no matter what I said, it is being ignored by Samba. First is my relevant snippet for the Logon Path and Logon Home being empty as described in the documentation. Then, following that, is my entire smb.conf -- please let me

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All, I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this? Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but others continuing to use a roaming profile? We

Roaming Profiles: Advantages and disadvantages?
Hello everyone. I wanted to get some feedback and opinions from people regarding the use of Roaming profiles. originally, I was planning on using roaming profiles. However, I am starting to wonder if this is such a good idea. The reason is that, if I implement roaming profiles, there is a good chance that there will be network congestion as well as a lot of stress on the server. (50 users so

Roaming profiles and USRMGR.EXE
I'm using Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.06.1 as PDC for our Windows workstations. The passdb backend is tdbsam. I want to employ roaming profiles and due to the fact that we have a mixed Windows environment (Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro) I have the following entry in my smb.conf: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\%a Basically, this works fine. If a user is working on a W2k workstation, his

disabling roaming profiles for some networks only
Hey everyone. We have two offices accessing the same Samba server, which is a PDC and file server. The server is located in one of the offices, but the other office is only connected by a relatively slow link (1.5 megabit/s). I'm looking for a way to turn off roaming profiles only for those users which are at the remote site. (It's a tad inconvenient when it takes an hour or two to

kill roaming profiles!
Greetings to everybody! Is there any way to turn off roaming profiles and use only local ones? In our company each of us connects to domain from its own workstation, so as I can see there's no need in roaming profiles. Why I'm asking such weird question? Because with roaming profiles Windows clients has readonly profiles! With Policy Editor I made HKEY_Local_Machine writeable,

Roaming profiles with Samba3
Good morning everyone. I wanted to ask the people on this list who are currently using roaming profiles with samba 3 how it is working? I worked a little with roaming profiles with 2.2.8a, but it was not working as well as I wanted it to and im hoping that samba 3 roaming profiles are working pretty well. Our network here is really calling for roaming profiles to be a major option here. Our

temporary profiles problem - don't want roaming profiles
I have a Samba PDC (Ubuntu 12, OpenLDAP 2.4.28, Samba 3.6.3), and at two remote sites, I have some Samba BDCs. For now I've manually entered the DCs as WINS servers on the workstations I'm using for testing. At the remote sites, I can log in with an account that has no logon path or logon home specified, and it works perfectly. But at the main site, when I try to log on to one of these

Roaming Profiles - WinXP and Win7
Hello All, Today I was able to implement Samba4 as a DC with AD in a test environment. I eventually got it all working and was able to join the domain from two different virtual machines. I was also able to set up a roaming profile share and configure a user to utilize this share. My issue is that when I first logged into the domain after setting up the roaming profiles I did so from a

Help needed with Windows7 roaming files.
Hi all, We've been trying to setup/upgrade a samba PDC (version 3.56) with OpenLDAP as backend and roaming profiles for Windows7 (32bit) Clients. windows7 has no problem with login after applying the reg patches, however, it seems to always load a temporary profile as opposed to roaming one for users, no local profile is created. this has caused Outlook 2010 to function improperly
