pdbedit not working as documented
I have am hitting a wall with pdbedit, as shown below.
Any workarounds would be greatly appreciated.
I am encountering the inability to change any users (profile) SID on Samba
3.x for Linux and BSD, which causes the accounts to no longer recognize
their local Samba 2 profiles once they join Samba 3 domain. If I add a new
user and pdbedit -a user -U SID it ignores the -U.
The old profiles appear

samba PDC problems
I'm trying to set up a samba PDC. I've been following
the directions in "The Official Samab-3" book. I still
don't understand how to add users! I'm using tdbsam
and I set up all the add user scripts and what not in
the smb.conf. pdbedit won't let me do anything unless
I add the user with adduser(what's the point of the
scripts?) and even when I add the user by

[GOLUM] RE: pdbedit not working as documented
You think Microsoft's mailing lists and forums are better? Just wait (and
wait, and and ...). Oh, that's right, you can call Microsft for help ,,, and
shell out $295 per.

classic upgrade with rfc2307bis
Hi Christian
we did someithing similar some month ago and I only found only a rather complicated way.
1) We extracted the normal passwd and group information
getent passwd > /root/passwd.out
getent group > /root/group.out
deleted system user and password, converted to ASCIi and sorted computers out of passwd.out

pdbedit - RID for machine accounts
Hi,
I've tried to search for the problem on the lists without finding a
solution.
I'm trying to recreate a crashed PDC system on a new system with samba
3.0.4. It is a small domain and I use tdbsam as a backend. No LDAP (yet ;).
I could actually retrieve the old SIDs from a backup file, and also the
smb.conf file. All other files was though lost :(
I managed to give the new domain (PDC)

Re: CentOS 3.6, samba-3.0.9-1.3E.5 tdbsam to ldapsam export
Robert,
First off, the Samba Technical mailing list is not a help facility. Its
purpose is purely for discussion of samba design and code implementation
issues. Please confine your email to the normal Samba list.
There are several avenues for Samba support:
1. The official documentation that consists of:

Problems with tdb-database after migration from Debian-Samba-3.2.5-4lenny6 to Samba-3.2.5-4lenny7
Hi there ...
I have a problem with my tdb-database after I've migrated from Debian-Samba-3.2.5-4lenny6 to Samba-3.2.5-4lenny7.
All the old directories /etc/samba with the smb.conf and /var/lib/samba with the tdb-database has been hold.
Now I've inexplicable effects with my tdb-database.
- I cannot list my admin - user, which is the domain-administrator, in my passwd.tdb.

Bad passwords from Vampire / NT migration
I just did a clean install of Fedora 9 onto a Pentium 4 machine. It is actually running SELinux enforcing, but I haven't found any errors related to that so far. It is running Samba 3.2.3-0.20. I am trying to migrate a Windows NT 4.0 domain with about 30 users and 30 computers onto a pure Samba setup, using Samba as the PDC and tdbsam.
I have read the HOWTO guide extensively, and

BDC keeps taking over and not allowing logins from NT PDC
Hello, thanks for looking over my ramblings...
We have an NT4 PDC with and NT4 BDC on 192.168.132.X, these boxes are
very very old and overloaded. I am trying to replace them with a nice
shinny new Samba box. My problem is that while I am trying to test it
out to make sure it plays nice it keeps winning the elections.
I find this weird as I have set the box to domain master = no and turned

NT/UNIX username mapping possible directly via tdbsam?
Hello everyone,
I've been wondering if NT and UNIX username mapping can be done directly
via the SAM database instead of the 'username map = <filename>' option
in smb.conf.
The problem with 'username map' files is that the mappings seem to work
only in one direction, namely from NT towards UNIX usernames. However,
I'd like to achieve a true, bi-directional

user / machine / group scripts, some work some don't
Hi List,
I have some issues with user manager for domains (srvtools.exe from MS)
and the scripts mentioned in the subject. The examples from the samba
howto collection seem to cause serious issues here. I am on debian etch
and tried to create my own scripts but till now to now avail. With the
examples from the docs I could add groups, but could not add users to
groups. There was the option -A

Re: Your computer account was not found or the password was incorrect
Hey guys,
I'm trying to migrate my NT4 Domain and am having some problems.
Ignoring my other post related to this, I can't get any of my machines
to be able to login. Alls I ever get is
"Your computer account was not found or the password is incorrect"
I even tried rejoining the domain which works. I leave the domain and
then rejoin it, it takes a LONG time (might just be

pdbedit: '-G rid' doesn't seem to have any effect
On my Samba PDC, using tdbpass:
'pdbedit -Lv agrotera$' produces:
Unix username: agrotera$
NT username:
Account Flags: [W ]
User SID: S-1-5-21-4211105910-4270789338-3787013593-1414
Primary Group SID: S-1-5-21-4211105910-4270789338-3787013593-513

'getent passwd agrotera$' gives:

UNIX/NT Account Creation Scripts?
Hi:
We're running Samba on a Unix machine which is a member of the NT domain.
This has several interesting ramifications involving UIDs and passwords
(I've listed those below). But this is my basic question:
Does anyone have any scripts they use across UNIX and NT
to create user accounts? I have access to rsh and
adduser.pl with the NT Resource Kit, so presumably I
could write

What is the purpose of "add user script"?
Hi All,
I am confused. In one of the examples of a PDC,
the following smb.conf parameter is given:
add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -m -G users '%u'
If you have "passdb backend = tdbsam" and the way
to add users to "tdbsam" is "pdbedit -a -u username",
what is the purpose of the "add user script"?
I am thinking it is to add the user

We are testing out samba at the moment version 3.0.0-15 on Fedora caore 1.
And are using winbind to comunicate to our NT domain. doing a wbinfo -u at
the command line scrolls threw all our domin users on the NT pdc. :)
At the moment we are trying to get the samba server to creature the unix

Impossible to change Primary group
I have Samba PDC and use tdbsam backend. I use the version 3.0.11, but
recently I have exchanged it for the version 3.0.23c. Now I have a

I wish to move one user "gad" from Domain Users (RID 513) to Domain

Now Primary group of user "gad" is "Domain Users":

where samba stored passwords in tdbsam backend?
Hello
I use the backend tdbsam. I have just imported users from smbpasswd
backend
pdbedit -i smbpasswd -e tdbsam
in global section I set
passdb backend = tdbsam
I use policy (pdbedit -P maximum and minimum password age) to change
passwords every three months and when the passwords were changed none of
the files (smbpasswd ,passdb.tdb , secrets.tdb in
/var/lib/samba/private) has not changed
