smbclient fails when LDAP server is down
Hi all,
I?m having some trouble setting up a samba failover scenario.
This is what I?ve done:
Subnet 192.168.1.0 -> Samba PDC e Samba BDC
Subnet 192.168.20.0 -> LDAP Master e LDAP Slave
If all servers are up I can login to domain. If I put the LDAP Master
service down I am still able to login from the Slave LDAP. But if the server
where the master LDAP is installed is down

Regarding net groupmap
Well, my Samba 3.0.4 is joined to a w2k AD and works fairly well so far,
as it's not in a production environment yet. I am now testing it for
such a release and have encountered a permission problem. Unless I
chmod -R 777 the Samba share directroy, users can only read files on the
share, including the ADS users in Domain Admins. Reading the Samba
online manual, I figured the groupmap

3.0.14 -> 3.0.20a: ldap errors, unable to authenticate or browse
Hello, I was using version 3.0.14 and upgraded to 3.0.20a. I did not
change my config, however, I am seeing some serious problems now, and I
am not sure what to do about it.
I noticed there were a large number of changes between these two
versions. I looked at the changes briefly, but there are just so many.

Samba LDAP timeout
Hello,
I'm having trouble configuring an Ubuntu Hoary Samba server to use LDAP
for authentication (the server is named "dixie"). I'm basing my
configuration on another server here at work that connects just fine. When
I try to just list samba shares on dixie with
$ smbclient -L dixie -U faker
It takes quite some time for the request to go through before failing.

Samba & LDAP
Hello,
I'm trying to get SAMBA (v 3.0.1) to use my LDAP server but don't seem to be getting
very far.
Here's what's being logged when I try to join the domain (Sambe is acting as a PDC).

Samba cannot contact LDAP server
I'm setting up a PDC using samba 3.0.14a-2 on fedora 4 with Openldap
2.2.23 to authenticate. Authentication via ldap through the various
linux service is working (login, ssh, etc.) via nss. Thus I know that
slapd is running and working properly. I used smbldap-tools to populate
and add test users/groups to the directory, and they worked just fine.
But samba, despite being configured

Samba+ldap : can't join to domain
Hello,
I'm using Samba3.0.14a and openldap from Debian/Sarge.
I used some doc to make it work and this one in particular :
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html
I am using root with uidnumber=O, samba.conf from idealx samba3-ldap howto and
everything looks too work fine except that :
I can't join the domain (even if the computer account is created by

Why (&(objectClass=sambaDomain)(sambaDomainName=SARDINE))?
I have a member server that is constantly querying the LDAP server with -
(&(objectClass=sambaDomain)(sambaDomainName=SARDINE))
- when security=domain and workgroup=backbone. The server DOES authenticate
domain users, and everything seems to work, but this draining resources.
This is RH9, Samba 3.0.3pre2 (although I'm pretty certain I saw this on 3.0.2)
and OpenLDAP openldap-2.1.25-1

LDAP search for root.
Hello all!
Is there a reason that the "root" uid is sought after in "ldap suffix" and
not in "ldap user suffix","ldap suffix" when smbd is started?
This seems incorrect to me. I have three domains in the same tree and it's
arranged like so (varying the last dc on each suffix):
ldap group suffix = cn=Groups,dc=devex
ldap idmap suffix

samba-3.0.0 and Active Directory
Hi everybody,
Shortly, I want my Active Directory users to be able to use Linux samba
file server.
The network is: Win XP and w2k clients, an AD server (w2k) and Linux samba
file server (RedHat 7.1).
The services on Linux box (imap, ftp, ssh) are configured to use pam_ldap
and nss_ldap, so 'getent passwd' works fine and gets accounts from both
/etc/passwd (root and a couple of accounts)

net groupmap modify bug
Hi,
After a successful upgrade from samba3alpha19 to samba3.0.1pre1 I am now doing the group mapping stage.
The problem I am having is modifying a group in the LDAP directory. I am using net groupmap modify ntgroup=staff unixgroup=staff type=domain.
The error it is coming up with is

Bug in LDAP stuff?
I think I've found a bug in the LDAP stuff. I've got a LDAP backend
setup based on the idealx scripts. When I try to join a machine to my
domain, I get the following. The important bit I want to point out is
that the LDAP search is looking for (a lot of) properties, but it seems
to be looking for _ALL_ objectClass=sambaSamAccount's. At this point in
the trace, it should be trying to

samba with ldap and digest-md5
Hi all,
I am running samba-server-3.0.6-4.1.100mdk, openldap-servers-2.1.25-6mdk,
lib64sasl2-plug-digestmd5-2.1.15-10.1.100mdk. I have searched through the
lists and I am wondering if I am the only one doing this kind of set-up..
Anyway question is as follows: In my ldap server I have normal posix
accounts with plain text password that are sorted out by a sasl-regex in the
slapd.conf and

samba nad ldap
Hi everyone!
I have (i think) a fully functional tls enabled samba ldap server. I
used the documenation on www.idealx.org. I can make users and computers
with smbldap-tools but i can't add Windows computers to the domain in
the client end.
smbldap-useradd -w w-eddie
ldapsearch -x generates among other things:

Samba after upgrade+migration, Win7 workstation trusts lost
Hello list - I am not sure my messages are getting out to the list, so I
will attempt in this message to summarize the problems I am having that have
been the subject of a few other posts.
I recently upgraded from a command-line Slackware installation to Debian
Jessie. As part of that exercise, Samba was upgraded from 3.5.x to 4.1.17.
My upgrade method was probably not idea: I recursively

Samba4 / Open LDAP init DB
Hi,
I have been able to successfully install Samba4 and OpenLDAP and connect
them via SSL. The file samba.schema is also loaded into OpenLDAP, but
when I start samba server it looks like it is expecting some basic
structure. My Question at this point is how to provide this the easisest
way? Currently the OpenLDAP DB is entirely empty (virgin) so Samba4
could create anything it needs.
