User authentication to AD200X, need local users?
I am trying to get user authentication in a 200X AD to have domain users see the samba shares (RH ES3, samba 3.0.9-1). I can see the shares, but when I try to access any of the shares, I get prompted for a username and password and this is what shows up in the log.winbindd file ------------------- [2004/12/29 08:17:37, 1] nsswitch/winbindd_user.c:winbindd_getpwnam(161) user 'robl' does

winbind: idmap_rid - no user mapping
Hello, I've some trouble with winbind and the idmap_rid feature in an ADS environment. (Opteron with Debian 3.1pure64, official Samba/Winbind packet 3.0.14a) Without "idmap backend = idmap_rid:...." in the smb.conf a "getent passwd" works fine. Then I delete the /var/lib/samba/*.tdb-files, activate idmap_rid in smb.conf (see below) and join the ADS-Domain once more -

Changing AD passwords from Unix box
I have set up my linux system to authenticate against usernames and passwords on a win2k3 AD server. This seems to work fine, users are able to login to the linux using ssh, brows home directories, login at the console.... The goal is to allow users that work on Linux systems for development to share their home directories with windows systems (laptop's running Windows XP). We have some

winbindd, getent, primary group issue
Greetings all, I am running winbindd running quite nicely on a suse 7.3 system. (samba 2.2.2) One issue (until now:-): I discovered that new created files are created with the gid associated with the primary group of the particular user which is fine and desired. However: 'getent passwd' lists all users with the gid set to 10000 which happens to be mapped to the 'Domain users'

migration/acl4 problem
Hi, S10U3: It seems, that ufs POSIX-ACLs are not properly translated to zfs ACL4 entries, when one xfers a directory tree from UFS to ZFS. Test case: Assuming one has an user A and B, both belonging to group G and having their umask set to 022: 1) On UFS - as user A do: mkdir /dir chmod 0775 /dir setfacl -m d:u::rwx,d:g::rwx,d:o:r-x,d:m:rwx /dir # samba would

Need krb5 on Interdomain trust Win2003SP1 - Samba3.0.21?
Hi there, I am reading the Samba3-By-Example dated 29Dec2005. I've found that there's no information on telling how to make a successful deployment on interdomain trust, but this is the missing Chapter that I am really looking for. Anyway, my question is beside Winbind, do I need to configure krb5 on Samba (Domain A) when talking to Win2003SP1 on Domain B? Best Wishes and Happy New Year

Can access samba server via HOSTNAME not by IP
Hello, I have following problem: We have to replace Windows 2003 domain controller with Windows 2008 . Previously used version of Samba don't work properly with Windows 2008 (security issues) therefore I upgraded one of file servers(FC8) to Samba 3.0.33 (Release 0.fc8). Result seemed to be ok until I realized that I can access shares only via hostname, for example: \\smb2.mydomain.net or

(Actually, OS type and Samba version don't matter so much, as I have the same problem with Debian Jessie and Samba 4.5.5) I followed the Wiki very close. Some details from provisioning: ...
