error msg using testparm
hi, I'm new to Samba. I use Suse linux 9.1pro & kde on a small network with Samba 3.0.9. I tried the testparm from the Official Samba -3 howto. Unfortunately the book, etc. does not address the error msg given, follows. Can somebody help? scn@scn:~> testparm -s -v | egrep "(lp|print|spool|driver|ports|\[)" Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf Processing section

Samba3 - small lan [2] - fstab & smbfstab
Hi, This is the second of 2 emails I have two essentially identical linux computers [east and west] both running Samba 3.0.9-2.6-suse with Suse linux pro 9.1 on a two machine lan - [east & west] connected by a hub. I am using `The Official Samba-3 HowTo & ref guide by Terpstra et al' as my samba reference. I am not clear which fstab to use. /etc/samba/smbfstab

printer loss [susepro9.1]-mostly solved-samba the problem?
Hi, Thanks for the suggestions - the immediate problem is solved. I feel that a monstrous weight has been lifted. I tried the suggestions and the printer connection is back - wonderful!!!!! what a relief! I stopped the firewall and samba so it is one of them, or both which is causing the problem? I would vote for samba3 as the culprit because the printer loss occurred on both machines on a 2

small lan - novice - 2
Hi, armed with Samba-3 -by example I proceeded to test my 2 linux lan [suselinux pro 9.1 with Samba 3.0.9-2.6-suse]. I followed instructions and made the smb.config as small as possiblw: [global] workgroup = snj server string = Samba Server guest ok = yes [orb] comment = removable 2.2 gb hd path = /orb browsable = yes read only = no However, I was stumped practically immediately as you can

small lan - novice
Hi, John, thanks for replying. I am fully aware that this is a volunteer effort and do appreciate it very much. I really didn't expect an automatic answer - I was suggesting an automatic response which could indicate the objection[s]? I have downloaded the S3be `book' and ordered it from amazon. I was puzzled by your comment: `Please do not refer to smbfs's friends as Samba. The

Samba3 - small lan [1]
Hi, I have posted to this list once before without any reply. It would be nice if some reply could indicate why the posting was not appropriate and some indication as to what one should do - the last time I included my smbconf. This time I have reworked my questions, limited their scope , and put them in two emails. I have two essentially identical linux computers [east and west] both running

SAMBA 3.0 joining Domain fails with SuSE rpm's
Hello, I'm not sure if it's a bug - or I'm just too stupid..!? Downloaded the Samba beta-code from ftp.suse.com/gd - rpm's for SuSE 8.2 (03/06/22). Installed all packages with no problems - samba works well, but integration in a W2K Domain fails. Kinit is successful but joining a domain brings up the following errors. nas-01:~ # net ads join [2003/06/23 21:44:41, 1]

novice - samba3+; suse linuxpro9.1
hi, I thought it would be easy and over quickly - it has been anything but... I decided to test and use Samba 3.+ on my Suse linux pro 9.1 lan but cannot get it to work and need some help/guidance. I have two essentially identical linux computers [east and west] and I have both of them as both server AND client. At a later date, after this `simple' lan works, I plan to add a ms portable

Suse Linux Enterprise 10 and Samba PDC
Hi, I have SLES 10 running (after much searching, reloading, and trial and error) a Samba PDC with LDAP. I have tried to use the many Samba as PDC documents out there, but none seemed to work. I even tried one from the Suse Site geared for SLES 10, no luck. I ended up using Yast2 to configure the server and get it running. It is accepting workstations, and user connections with one problem.

Samba 3.0.7 and SuSE Yast2.
Hi, I have down loaded the Samba 3.0.7 binary rpm's for SuSE 9.1 from the samba ftp. I'm trying to install it using Yast2 and don't let me. If I use the rpm commands I get an error too. Do I need a signature or something alike? If yes, where do I get it and how can I make this beauty to work.

Dom0 hang on SuSE 9.3 IA64
I''m having problems booting Dom0 on an unbranded server. Server is running SuSE 9.3 x86_64 and has been working fine for a couple of years as a standard boot pc. I installed the 2.0.5c version of Xen which is part of the SuSE repository. I cannot boot into Xen though, booting Dom0 stops after: NET: Registered protocol family 16 I know from a normal boot that the next part is PCI

install R under suse: packages dependency
Hi all I'm trying to install R 2.3.0 under Suse 10.0. As I'm using SSH to login into the SUSE server, I can't use YAST2, so I have to use rpm -i in the shell. The system tells me that I need some other packages such as xorg-x11-fonts-100dpi, blas, libgfortran.so.0(). Is there some website where I can download and install these packages? Thanks a lot! Failed to boot suse 10.1(domain 0) with IBM xSeries 330
Hi , I have setup xen on a number of different machines already; however, I couldn''t get xSeries 330 working with Xen. When it boots up, it says "Waiting for device /dev/sda1 .... device not found" and then return a shell prompt. I have looked up this error on the mailing list. I found that the error is potentially caused SCSI driver and it can be resolved this problem by

custom network script for SuSE boxes
Hello all, This is a custom network script I have been working on, mainly for a SuSE 9.3 box, but I am hoping other people may find it useful. It is based on the existing network script in /etc/xen/scripts/ . The existing script, by default, uses eth0 and xen-br0 for the device and bridge respectively. The custom script just takes one parameter, say eth0. It move eth0 to one side by renaming it
