samba 2.27 as print server
I'm running Samba 2.27 on RH8 system. I've got samba as the print spooler for Windows XP clients and using winbind as the user validation against my Win2K DC. Permissions on the spool directory are root root with the sticky bit on. Clients can delete their own jobs from the que, but the spool directory is not being expunged of print jobs and the last job constantly displays in the client

Guarddog, Samba, Win98
Using Samba on Kubuntu Breezy, and Win98 on a virtual PC (VMPlayer). Everything works fine, except: When the firewall (iptables via GuardDog) is activated, I don't get any access from Win98 to my Linux shares - neither by ping nor by "connecting network-drive" - even if I allow everything that can be allowed within GuardDog (although this should have the same effects like

[Bridge] Making a bridge work without source address spoofing
So, I agree, the curent wireless card I have been given does not allow source address spoofing, but I still would like to use bridging. I wonder if anyone has tried modifying the bridge code to encapsulate the actual packet in some way so that the desired source address can be preserved? I am thinking of something like duplicating the ETH header, adding it to the beginning of the packet, so that

Slow network and 100% CPU
Hi, I have a samba server which functioned correctly. Only, since 2 weeks, the users have complained about slowness networks and the server is to 100% CPU on the initial process smbd. My version is 3.0.7 and I have a Windows 2000 WINS server for netbios resolution. The samba server use nscd and ldap for password module. I upgraded to samba 3.0.10 for a test, but the problem is not resolved.

Treat an Unquoted Character String as a Data Frame
I have several datasets that come from different studies (fv02 and fv03), they represent different levels (patients and lesions), and they have different patient populations (itt, mitt, mitt3). I wanted to write some code that would pass my three requirements into a function I wrote, produce the output, but not have to require me to also pass a unique plot title or output filename for each

can't get samba 3.0.14a to work with ldap
Hi... If you have successfully gotten samba 3.0.14a (or any other recent samba version) to work with ldap, can you perhaps email me your various config files so I can figure out what I am doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've tried every thing I can think of, but I can't get samba 3.0.14a to work with ldap. The ldap server seems to be working and smbclient seems to

task scheduler in Samba ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Anyone interested in having the Windows remote task scheduler implemented in Samba 3 at some point ? I think it would be pretty easy work based on the registry stuff that's been done lately. If you think this would be a useful feature for scheduling services on a Samba host, let me know. Disclaimer: I've never used this feature on Windows

Disabling [printers] share
Hi All, I've been trying to tackle this for some time and so far did not find a way to do this. The problem is simple - as I don't enable printing through Samba I'd like to disable it in such fashion that user would not even see the empty Printers share when he lists the available shares. How can I achieve that? Best Regards, Marek C.

Backup & Restore Samba Configuration
The motherboard in our Samba server fried. I have re-installed our operating system (SUSE 10) and was wondering what is the best way to restore our Samba server? Can it be as simple as copying the smb.config and smbpasswd files back into the /etc/samba directory? That's what I am hoping. If I just copy the smb.config and the smbpasswd files back to the samba directory will the machine trusts,

Synchronize samba across servers
I've got a particularly inelegant setup to manage whereby we have one server attached to a fibre SATA enclosure, and another one on standby that has to be manually plugged in should the first go down. I'm trying to work out what the best way to synchronize the samba setup is, presumably mainly user accounts, across the two is so I don't have to do everything twice. Thanks in

Authentication problem
I've got a RH9 box with samba 3.0.0 using winbind and pam for windows client and user authentication to a 2003 AD DC. This morning I started having problems with a few shares that then cascaded into a larger issue of being able to authenticate any client to the machine. I configured Kerberos with my realm information and have added the machine to the domain several times and have been

Problem changing passwords (LDAP + SMB + smbldap-tools)
Hi everybody. I'm having a weird behavior with my smb+ldap installation. My server is configured as the PDC for my network. All my users are attached to the domain and are working fine. Also, I'm trying to configure other web applications in order to use LDAP, the idea is that the users use the same credentials to log into the SMB domain and to log into another applications
