w2k + xp clients password change freezes the client
Hi. I've a problem changing the password of the domain user directly from the windows client by using strg+alt+del. If I try to change the password, the client freezes for several minutes and after this amount of time a popup appears with this error: The DOMAIN isn't available. In the the samba logs I see this error: can't connect to service "USERNAME" this is the GLOBAL

cannot change user password with CTRL-ALT-DEL
I've been running samba (currently 2.2.3a-13 for Debian) as a PDC with W2k clients for over two years. The system was up and running quite well for a long time. A couple of days ago, I installed the following MS-patches: MS04-011 MS04-012 MS04-013 MS04-014 MS02-011 Now when users try to change their password from the w2k clients using CTRL-ALT-DEL, a popup window appears saying:

Unchangeable "Password must change: Fri, 13 Dec 1901 21:45:51 MET "
Hello Group, I've been reading many posts but i still don't have the answer to how to force a password change or set a password lifetime. I'm using w2k clients which connect to a samba PDC version 3.0.10 on a basic SunOS 5.8 system, no ldap or so. syncing the ux-passwords and the smb-passwords works perfect, but i can't get it working to force users to change passwords. [PATCH] nvc0: fix geometry program revalidation of clipping params
Signed-off-by: Ilia Mirkin <imirkin at alum.mit.edu> Cc: mesa-stable at lists.freedesktop.org --- Even though in practice a geometry program will never be using UCP's, we still were revalidating (aka recompiling) the program when more clip planes became enabled (which also are used for regular clip distances). This seems like it should have led to massive fail, but I guess you

Samba3-beta1 as a PDC and using tdbsam as passdb backend it takes the home-directory info from /etc/passwd
I didn't get any answers so I try again: I am using tdbsam as passdb backand. I have added root user with pdbedit. The machine trust account was added on the fly. I have added the user with pdbedit. I have created the user in /etc/passwd. When the user logs in from a W2k and mounts the home-directory I noticed that Samba didn't take the home-directory information from tdbsam, it

Problem uploading printer driver on 2.2.8a (FreeBSD 4.8)
Hello, I have an annoying problem. I have declared a printer for which I want Samba to download drivers onto the clients. So I have configured print$ share, the printer itself (by BSD printing), then connect the printer to my W2K client (SP3 with ALL RPC updates applied, including today's one). And it fails : - on the windows side, I have a popup : unable to install <name of the driver>

User permissions - nil authorised users
I am a bit surprised by the behaviour of Samba user permissions (security = user) - although in fact it produces exactly what I want! Can I confirm it is correct, and ask one question? I have one class of shares (private) which I want only specified users to access. And another class which I want everyone to be able to access (public) but with a common password protection for some element of

Clarifying different password systems
I'm running samba 3.0.14a-6 on Debian GNU/Linux 2.4. I believe that I should be using pdbedit to add or modify users and their passwords, but I want to double-check that. I'd also like to suggest the documentation could be clearer. I had earlier versions installed, and the upgraded seems to have migrated me to the new password scheme. smb.conf has "passdb backend = tdbsam

Samba 3.0 - User Changing His/Her Passwords
Hello all! We recently upgraded from Samba 2.2.3 to Samba 2.999+3.0.alpha20-3 on debian 3.0. Ever since then users are unable to change their own passwords on their W2k machine. What happens is when they try to change it a process (passwd) gets stuck with the users name. The only way to fix this is to kill the passwd process the user started. I haven't changed the "passwd chat"

Why I can not login my shared folder under samba + CentOS 7

Win2k Server won't join domain
This isn't looking like a samba problem, but thought I'd ask just in case. I'm running samba 3.0.10 on Debian stable as a PDC. I have a Windows 2000 Server which was happily part of the domain until this morning. This morning users couldn't use an application whose database files are on the w2k machine, the symptoms looking like the users weren't authenticating to the

changing passwords from Windows XP Pro workstations
Back to square 1! I stripped out my unsuccessful attempts to get Samba working with LDAP on my Debian Sarge server and am back with a tdbsam backend. I actually tried to purge as much of the old Samba & LDAP as I could then reinstalled fresh. This included removing the Windows groups and users and even the old tdbsam data. Unfortunately, I'm back where I started - users can't

Problems usign samba with Windows XP Pro
Hello, I have upgraded my computer from W2K to W XP Pro. I use samba connections to reach an Aix server (4.3.3), on which samba 2.2.8a is installed. Before upgrading my computer, everything worked perfectly, but since, the first time I try to access a file or directory on a samba network filesystem, I takes approximately 5 to 6 minutes to make connection. After that, response time is fine. Do

I'm trying now with tdbsam backend ; after that I will try with ldap. With pdbedit I can modify the roaming profile path, but I can't modify the terminal server profile path ? Has anybody tried this
