[Fwd: Samba-3 By Ex Chapt 3]
One more thing I forgot to mention. The chapter calls for editing /etc/resolv.conf, but in my case it won't stay edited--it keeps getting set back to an original form (for searching my ISP) on every reboot. Thanks again. Can't get Local DNS to Run [Was[ remove wins entries - samba 3]]
Further on this. I just ran an ethereal trace on an attempt to ping lserver1 from lserver1, and it appears that my DNS isn't staying local at all, but I have no idea what's gone wrong (other than my /etc/resolv.conf file). The trace (I'd include the relevant parts, but I can't get it to save anything in textual form) had lserver1.test.biz going out through the

Samba Shares With only Partial Access
I have a 2Win2k, 1Linux (server) LAN; the server is running FC3 and Samba 3.0.14a. I am unable to get both users access to their individual shares. Essentially, I'm working through the Accounting Office example (pgs 31-35) of John Terpstra's 2004 Samba-3 By Example, and I'm doing something foolish and wrong on a basic level. I can get access to, and manipulate the files in, my

Samba-3 by Example Exercise 2.3
The FAQ (question/answer 2) says that the DHCP server config /etc/dhcpd.conf) automatically provides each client with the IP address of the WINS server. I've been over the provided dhcpd.conf, and I cannot find which line(s) are referring to the WINS server. Also, as written, when I tried to start my dhcpd, I got an error saying I had to specify a ddns-update-style. I wound up adding at

Asterisk on 64bit ?
Hi, A'm about to set up a asterisk for 5000 users, and the customer had a 64bit server - can asterisk compile on that ? I will use a digium X100P for timing use will that do on a 64bit ? (I'm using SUSE91 kernel 2.6) What else ? Is it posible to have only one server for 5000 users ? I gues that it will be 5-700 sim. users only talking sip, and IAX2 to my PSTN-Gateway. The system is

Hot to configure Samba 3 as PDC and BDC for a Windows network
Hi all, I hoping someone out there might be able to tell my how to configure and Samba box to be a PDC and BDC for a windows network? I'd like to use the LDAP backend, but and too new to the Unix world to understand how this is accomplished. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Charlie

Problems with DOS printing from W2K on Samba
I have setup a W2K client that uses a SuSE8.0 samba 2.2.5 server on the network. Samba is setup to use CUPS and as long as I print from W2K itself, there is no problems at all. It I try to copy a text file to a printer on the Samba server e.i. cp file \\lserver1\HP4000T nothing comes out of the printer and the following error message is written to /var/log/samba/log.smbd:

Trouble Connecting to Server
Folks, I'm having trouble connecting to my Samba server. The immediate symptom is that I cannot see my Samba server in my Windows Network Neighborhood, and so I cannot connect to it to check my share connections. I'm running SUSE 9.3 on the server, which is running Samba (3.0.22) , a dhcp server (which seems to be running correctly--everyone gets an address when they ask for one),

update_va_mapping_otherdomain
Greetings, I have a technical question about update_va_mapping_otherdomain....... I have two components: a C program linked against libxc and a kernel module which performs the following simple sequence of events from domain zero: 1. Pause guest (unprivileged) 2. Grabs the PTE associated with a random (but present) page within the guest''s kernel''s address space (using a

OT: NIC
Folks, I'm trying to add a network interface card to my SUSE 9.3 box, and I'm not having much luck with a US Robotics version. What manufacturer do any of you use in your machines--either 10/100MB or GigE NIC? Odd behavior with "allow dns updates" (+dhcp_dyndns.sh)
All, I'm hoping somebody could help explain this: with the Wiki dhcp_dyndns.sh script and "allow dns updates = secure and nonsecure", I have the following log snippet for a single machine: Jan 22 13:37:35 DC1 dhcpd: Commit: IP: 172.250.250.19 DHCID: > 1:be:a9:c5:4f:5f:cd Name: SERVER > <stuff> > Jan 22 13:37:35 DC1 named[20138]: samba_dlz: starting transaction on

Samba , dhcp, wins on Solaris 2.x
Hi All I have a samba server running on solaris 2.5.1. On the same machine there is a ISC dhcpd server which is configured to supply all the tcp/ip information to the NT Clients dynamically (ip, wins, domainname, dns, router etc.). So my NT Clients get only a name and are configured to get their tcp/ip information from the dhcpd server. Now, everything runs fine browsing, NetBios name

[Fwd: Re: [Fwd: Re: Won't Start Automatically]]
Actually, my problem turns out to be even more basic and foolish than that. I assumed that since the relevant Kill files were present in the ls listing, then the Start files would be, too. Nope. I had to make those soft links; when I did, everything worked properly. Eric Hines -------- Forwarded Message -------- From: Paul Gienger <pgienger@ae-solutions.com> <snip> Date: Sun, 27

[Fwd: Re: Won't Start Automatically]
Hi, ntsysv doesn't list the samba daemons (smbd, nmbd), and while I could use chkconfig, it appears, to add the daemons, I'd rather do this via the rcx.d links so I can understand what's going on. netlogon problems
Folks, I'm trying to achieve control over who logs into a share according to the group to which that person belongs, but with no luck. I'm running SUSE Pro 9.3 and Samba 3.0.13, with a Win2k machine on one subnet and an XP laptop on another subnet. In all cases, the user, instead of getting into his share transparently, gets invited to log in, and then the login is rejected.

Stable Network Down
Hi, I've had a stable Samba-run LAN, with some active shares, for several months, with my PC and laptop also gaining access to the Internet through the Samba server. However, this morning, when I booted up my Samba server, I had no LAN--neither my PC nor my laptop could connect to any share. However, both still had access to the Internet. I confirmed that smb, named, winbindd, et al.,

Samba Shares Still Not Quite
I've still not quite got things right. I'm running FC3 with Samba v 3.0.14a, and I'm trying to implement Example 2.4 from JHT's 2004 ed. of Samba-3 by Example. I have lserver1 as my Linux box and jupiter (user annlee) and mustelidae (ehines) as Win2k boxes. ehines has access to his share (path /archive/ehines (/archive/%U in smb.conf)), but annlee does not to her share

Multipath Routing in same subnet - Please take a look
Hello. I have the problem that I have two gateways on the same subnet, 80.237.244.1 and 80.237.244.33. Both gateways are 100 MBit cards, so I have 2 times 100 MBit to the Internet. The NIC in the server is a gigabit-card, so this card is easy able to use both gateways for outgoing traffic. Now I just want to use both gateways for my outgoing traffic but no matter what I do, it doesnt work. I
