LDAP server, too many open files
I've setup an LDAP server with a slave server on Centos 5.3 X86_64,
replication works, most of the time client logins work fine but I'm
starting to get a error I can't seem to eliminate, it's starting to
cause login failures for users and I think it's causing other
application failures when they try to auth against ldap.
on the client side /var/log/messages shows

syncrepl in OpenLDAP 2.3.x (CentOS 5) and updating on a replica
Hi,
I have a setup with two CentOS 5 machines running OpenLDAP 2.3.x,
right now the primary uses slurpd to send the updates to the second
server, and the second server is using "updatedn" to allow updates
(from what I understand! I'm no OpenLDAP guru here.) Clients are using
pam_ldap and nss_ldap to get the users and authenticate them in LDAP.
Right now hosts query only the primary

LDAP user search request includes domain
Hi,
I'm running a Samba 3.0.32 server on AIX 6.1, AIX is authorizing with
secldapclntd to an OpenLDAP Server.
The Clients are coming from a Windows 2003 Terminal Server Thin Client
session, logged in to the domain.
I see in the logs that secldapclntd tries 3 times to authorize using
DOMAIN\USER as identification, and then finally uses USER(which works).
Is this Samba behavior, or AIX? Is

[PATCH node-image] Adds a preserve option for autotest VMs.
If the -p option is provided, then no VMs are destroyed. Instead they,
and their related networks, are left intact.

Problem with non-interactive shells on Sol8 with 3.7.1p1
We recently started upgrading OpenSSH on our Sol8 systems and we've run
into a problem were we can run commands on a remote system since we
installed 3.7.1p1. The debug output from sshd is attached below. We use
PAM in our environment, and have since 2.9.9p2. I think most of the
systems were running 3.4p1 prior installing 3.7.1p1 and they were working
- the only thing we replaced was

Samba 3.4.7 with LDAP authentication
Hello All,
I have samba (Version 3.4.7) installed on a Ubuntu Server 10.04 (64-bit) using apt. I'm attempting to authenticate users connecting to the samba share over LDAP following the documentation https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/samba-ldap.html, but the authentication over LDAP fails. The OpenLDAP server was already configured to include the samba.schema, so i have skipped all

samba 3.5.6 - ''smbclient -U% -Llocalhost' results in error - using hostname works fine, new feature?
Guys,
I have probably missed an announcement or overlooked something in a changelog,
but I just want to confirm what I'm seeing is expected behavior. I run samba in
standalone mode and I have always checked operation with
smbclient -U% -Llocalhost
Now the faithful command returns an error:
Connection to localhost failed (Error NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME)
Simply using the hostname

ext3 instability in RH8.0?
We've been noticing some problems with ext3 and, in our
case, postfix, that appear to come to light under heavy
disk i/o loading. A previous thread found here
(http://www.redhat.com/mailing-lists/ext3-users/msg04189.html)
documents an identical set of symptons (and similar setup),
but with RH 7.2
The specifics are this:
1. Stock install of RH8.0 with postfix.
2. Linux mx 2.4.18-14 #1

BDC constantly rebinds to master ldap server causing browsing delay
Hello,
I seem to be having an issue where one of my BDC servers constantly needs
to rebind to the "master" ldap server (ldap1.ae-solutions.com). Whenever
this happens I see several entries in the log like this:
"smbldap_search_ext: waiting 928 milliseconds for LDAP replication."
It appears to cause delay when browsing samba shares whenever this
happens. The master

Samba and ldap failover - RH / Centos problem?
Hi folks,
I recently got my ldap master slave samba test environment up and runing.
samba-3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1
openldap-2.3.43-3.el5
The ldap systems sync fine, samba users are authenticated by each server
seperatly if I set tham in the samba conf.
E.g. passdb backend = ldapsam:"ldap://ldap2.filmakademie.de" and
passdb backend = ldapsam:"ldap://ldap1.filmakademie.de"
work.

smbclient (Samba 4.9.4) "Unable to initialize messaging context"?
Sambadevs,
I don't know if this is a bug or just a spurious error message when using
smbclient (on a standalone config), but checking smbclient, I get:

Domain trusts "forgetting" trusted users
I am running Samba ver 3.0.33 on Solaris 10 (sparc) as a PDC with LDAP
for the backend for both samba and unix accounts.
I have also set up a trust with an Windows domain- lets call it
WINDOMAIN- (the PDC for the Windows domain is Win 2003 but is in
mixed mode for backwards compat.) The SAMBA domain trusts the WINDOWS
domain, not not vice versa.
I had also tried setting up trusts with

Samba LDAP Failover
Hi,
I have a quite "simple" setup for a particular customer that loves
redundancy and failover.
PDC + BDC with LDAP Passwords on two 389-ds in multimaster node +
several samba member servers
Actually pointing singularly on both the systems everything works great.
As soon as I modify my passdb backend line from the single form to the
form containing both backends that is

Multiple userdb possible?
Hello,
I am running v2.0.13. In my dovecot.conf I have:
userdb {
args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-usrdb-ldap.conf
driver = ldap
}
passdb {
args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-passdb-ldap.conf
driver = ldap
}
Is it legitimate to include multiple ldap userdb's, like:
userdb {
args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-usrdb-ldap1.conf
driver = ldap
}
passdb {
args =

pam_ldap and nss_ldap failover
I'm (finally) getting around to putting a backup LDAP authentication
server on my network. The backup uses syncrepl to grab the database,
and to my eyes both LDAP servers answer read queries identically.
I'm testing the client side of this configuration on virtual CentOS 5
i386 machine. /etc/ldap.conf reads
