Permissions problem/misunderstanding ... "Domain Admins" vs. Administrators
Hi, Using Samba 3.0.14a and AIX 4.3, I have been able to join PC's to the domain without any problem. It "just works". I am using local profiles, and serving login batch files from the server, and that "just works". So far, I'm a happy camper. Now, I am trying to understand permissions so that I can actually use the "moveuser.exe" command from the

Move local profile to domain profile.
Ok, I got the W2K3 resource kit tool to move my local profile to my domain profile (moveuser.exe). Didn't really work that cleanly. Even though I used the /k (keep the local account), it didn't really. It seemed to change the permissions on MOST of the files. It didn't really move the files either. It's just pointed my profile (or parts of it) to the existing folder. Can't

how to let windbind to use LOCAL groupmaps?
Hi, I'm trying to join ?linux machines to AD domain with the help of winbind. In order to make account managent more easier, I want to create corresponding group maps from every linux native group, then join domain users/groups to the new LOCAL groupmap. At present, BUILTIN groupmap works fine with the steps: net groupmap add sid=S-1-5-32-544 unixgroup=admin ntgroup=BUILTIN\\Administrators

How to migrate local MS Windows users onto samba AD DC ?
Hi, I would have to join 7 computers (a mix of win 8, 8.1, 10 WKSs) to samba 4.7 AD DC. After I will have joined those workstations to samba AD DC I would like the users to experience a minimal disruption of their Desktops and profiles. The computers have never been registered to any domain before. Can their existing local user names be mirrored on the ADDC (samba)? Can their user profiles be

Samba4 as AD member & local rights problem...
Hi all, have a samba4 server as AD member (security =ADS). I have no account with "Domain Admin" rights, only a normal account with delegated privilege to managing GPO and for domain join. I can not manage the printserver resp. upload the win drivers. The smb.conf option 'printer admin' is gone with v4. I asked already in irc on #samba and got the advice to "make any

Copying local profiles to domain profiles...
I just set up a Samba 3 PDC, and my users want to use their local profiles. Unfortunately their XP systems won't allow them to copy their existing profiles - that option grays out for their local accounts. Is there another way to accomplish this?

Unable to add AD users to local groups
Greetings, I have Samba 4.4.7 running on several Sparc boxes running Solaris 9 as member servers in an Active Directory environment. (I do not control the AD configuration) I am able to connect to the servers using windows clients and smbclient - the problem I have run into is when I try to add domain users to local groups on the Samba servers I am told the users do not exist. As these

Not able to add domain users to local groups
Hi, I was able to successfully configure my samba server 3.0.24 running on Debian Linux server as "Domain Member Server" to W2k3 server. Command "net rpc testjoin" indicates that the join is a success. As mentioned in the document http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetCommand.html Under the section "Nested Group Support" I was trying to

Winamp Issues
I'm currently working on a streaming radio server that will be streaming randomized archive shows 90% of the time and then live shows 10% of the time. The solution I came up with was to have /main the archive mountpoint and have a /live for the live shows. What we want to do is use the functionality of icecast's moveusers.xsl to move them to the live at the specified time and have

Samba + Nested Groups
Hello for all, I'm having a doubt that I could not find in samba man and even google. My need is to do with samba ldap something similar to what the AD (NT4 does too?) made with windows nested groups, which include groups within groups at different levels (not just one). Problem example: create a local or global group (better yet) called GRUPO_ALL, which contains two other global groups

Group Nesting
Hey all, Is there a comprehensive how-to on the new group nesting features? I've found a little bit of info, but nothing that paints a clear picture of the process. If anyone has any insight or can point me to a tutorial it would be much appreciated. I created the local groups and mapped them. Wbinfo and getent all seem to be working. I've been trying to do the 'net rpc group addmem

HOW TO: Migrating users' locally-stored profiles from one domain or workgroup to a new domain
Migrating Users Profiles When Changing Domain Affiliation: A Primer I. Introduction NOTE: This applies to Windows NT-based systems with locally-stored user profiles. Windows 9x and Me do not manage user profiles in the same way. Quite often we find the need to change a workstation's affiliation, either from a workgroup (that is, the workstation is not in a domain environment) to a domain,

samba & unix group permissions problems
Hi, I'm having permissions problems connecting to a share when the gid of the directory shared is not the primary group of the user connecting to it. Maybe I faced it the wrong way, but I did read (and at least thought I understood) the 'File, directory and share access controls' section of the howto [0]. My users have either one or another 'primary group' (the one set in
