Joining a MS sevrer 2008 R2 machine to a Samba domain
Hello, I'm have an established Samba domain, where Samba is the PDC. It is working well with XP and Win7 clients. However, there is some bespoke software that must run on a Windows Server, due to the number of concurrent connections issue. So, we have installed a Windows 2008 R2 server and joined it to the Samba domain. This worked fine after applying the registry changes listed on the

Samba idmap against ad
Hello, I have a samba server (old - running FC6, samba 3.0.24-11.fc6) that authenticates against AD. This is all configured and has been working fine until this week. A new user has been added to AD, but cannot access the samba drives. All other users can still access samba as normal. net ads testjoin reports OK. wbinfo -a newuser%pass and wbinfo -K newuser%pass both succeed. wbinfo -r

Samba mixing Domain & Server name
Hello, I have a SLES10 64bit machine running samba 3.5.12. i have configured a domain (TASC), and set the servers netbios name to TUX. Samba is using the tdbsam backend. Now I have add machines to the domain, and users can logon using their domain accounts TASC\user. However, if the network is disconnected, in the case of laptop users going offsite, they cannot logon anymore. I have now

APC SmartUPS 3000VA LCD not connecting
We recently had to replace an old APC SmartUPS 3000 with a newer 3000VA (the 2U one). It has both serial and USB in the back (with an RJ-45 on the end of the serial cable). I can't get the apcsmart driver to connect. I figured it should work the exact same as the old UPS, with /dev/ttyS0 as the port (I'm using the same port on the server that the last one was plugged into). I even

Can't Install Samba 3.0.14a
I'm running FC3 with its bundled samba 3.0.11-fc3, and I'm trying to update to 3.0.14a. I've downloaded the rpms from samba.org, and (I think) I've backed up the original samba installation--/etc/samba--and I've stopped smb (I had to kill the smbd and nmbd processes; "/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb stop" didn't work). I've also withdrawn (make uninstall) an

Non-registry problem: Slow printing
Greetings, I have a client running samba-3.0.24 with mostly Windows-XP clients. They can print to some printers (those with drivers provided by Microsoft) without problem. They can also print to printers with vendor supplied printer drivers but they end up waiting up to 30 seconds just to select the printer. There is a similar wait when adding the printer to the list of printers the XP client

Perfect thanks. Do you have a web proxy in your network? That would explain this sequence of events. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dr David Holder CEng FIET MIEEE Erion Ltd, An Cala, Inverkirkaig, Lochinver, Sutherland, IV27 4LR, UK Reception: +44 (0)1422 207000 Direct Dial: +44 (0)131 2026317 http://www.erion.co.uk Registered in England and Wales.

Re: Different printer drivers ...
Greetings, I've now received private e-mail saying that others have seen this problem, sent e-mail to this list and received no answers. That ultimately, they ended up altering their Windows clients to use LPR instead of Samba. Is this really something that a genuine MS Windows server can handle and Samba cannot? Does anybody know when these other drivers stopped working well and what

Hi Sandy, Thanks! Curious. Do you have any other interfaces? ifconfig -a should show them all including loopback. What is puzzling me is that it should not even attempt to use IPv6 to reach a global address when it only has a link-local address. It should gracefully fall back to IPv4 (as per RFC 6724 or RFC 3484 depending on the kernel version). Since you have an IPv4 address and I assume an

Thanks. No other interfaces (ifconfig -a)? Also output of ip -f inet6 route would be useful. Samba-3.6.1 release IPV6 issue
Dear Sir, I am trying to use the shared files from Windows 7 using IPV6 address. But I couldn't able to map or access it through V6 address, though I can access it through IPV4 address. I tried almost every thing whatever I did find on the internet community. I would be grateful to you if you could help me to make this working. If possible please provide all the steps including
