SVN/CVS-like share for Samba users?
I am looking for some solution, working with Samba preferably, which would allow multiple users to work on one document. This means that if a user makes a change to the document, a previous version of that document is saved somewhere else. For example, user A opens a document (rw - read/write, ro - read-only document): rw \\server\share\document.txt User makes some changes, and saves it to

software phones for Asterisk - is there a list?
Hello, Is there a list of software phones which will work with Asterisk? For Linux and Windows? I don't have any hardware yet, and before I buy anything I would like to know how Asterisk really works (with software "phones" for example). Tomek

Windows-style quota / "profile size too big" warning?
With Windows domain controllers with when the profile size is too big (and there are limits appled), when the user logs out, he/she gets a warning, and a list of files, sorted from the biggest, to the smallest. To get an idea how it looks like, here's a screenshot: http://www.windowsitpro.com/Files/5057/Screen_03.gif http://www.windowsitpro.com/Windows/Article/ArticleID/5057/5057.html Is

two way synchronization with rsync?
I have two offices in one city; employees work in both of them (once in office A, the next or an hour later in office B etc.). They would like to have the same profile (i.e., if they log off in office A, they would like to have their documents, Desktop, emails etc. in the profile in the office B when they arrive there an hour later). Is it possible with rsync to construct such a "two way

allowing users to install printers
What is the easiest way to allow normal users to install printers (which are available through a Samba server)? Normally, Windows 2000 and XP need to have a printer installed by the admin first on a given workstation - only the it can be used by the user. I want to allow the user to install own printers. Now, when one trises to right click on a printer on a server and "connect", he

pxelinux on a cdrom - possible?
I'm using PXE booting to make operating system installations. There is one problem with it - it won't work when BIOS or NIC doesn't support network booting. Is it possible to put pxelinux somehow on a CD or on a floppy? -- Tomek http://wpkg.org

any plans on getting psexec / cmdat equivalent to Samba?
Hello ! If anybody want`s to implement the psexec unix port or samba equivalent, maybe taking a look at xCmd from Zoltan Csizmadia at http://www.codeguru.com/Cpp/I-N/network/remoteinvocation/article.php/c5433/ may help a LOT and is a very good example. (This one seems to work similar like psexec - but it is available with sourcecode!) I don`t know if the author is still reachable via this

different logon path for different users - local profiles for a few users only - how?
I would like to have roaming profiles for one group of users (student1, student2), and local profiles for another group of users (Joe, Mary). Is it possible with Samba? From what I've tested, one can use either roaming profiles with a setting similar to the one below: logon path = \\%L\profiles\%G\%U Or local profiles, using the logon path empty: logon path = I have no clue how to

Problem Connecting to Samba-OpenLDAP PDC
I have made some changes to try and get the PDC working and now I am down to one thing where I believe the problem lies. All such documents on the setup show that the addition of users to the PDC should be added to passwd as well as LDAP but for my system that is not the case. I am running the listed software: Fedora Core 4 OpenLDAP 2.2.23 Samba 3.0.14a This is what currently happens when I

"intelligent" rsync scripts?
I use rsync for backing up user data, profiles, important network shares etc. (from several locations over WAN). Overall it works flawlessly, as it transfers only changes, but sometimes there are some serious hiccups. Suppose this scenario, suppose it's 1 GB of files: user shares: /home/joe/data/file1 /file2 /... /file1000 Now the user

site-site vpn setup..
There is a reason most NMS systems used SNMP in the past and REST apis past 7+ years. They don't use CLIs except toy Expect type scripts.. Not just security but better error handling and more. Good luck learning! On Thu, Mar 29, 2018 at 9:03 AM, Tomasz Chmielewski <mangoo at wpkg.org> wrote: > SNMP is mainly used for monitoring, not _server_ automation. > > Also, it's

Al like any open-source or free sofware you need to put the leg work into what you want it to be. My company is actually creating something using TINC and we believe in it. If successful we'll be giving back to TINC monetarily in a big way to make TINC even better so if TINC isn't for you keep an eye on further developments in the future. NTConfig.POL not working for Win 2000 (for XP working fine)?
I'm just exploring the Profile Editor, described on http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html - and policies saved to NTConfig.pol file and copied to the netlogon share work great for Windows XP machines. However, with Windows 2000, they don't work at all. Winh XP machines - policies are applied. I see in Samba logs that the NTConfig.pol is copied from the server to the w2k

assigning a single IP to the guest with "typical" hosting provider
I have a server with a hosting company, Hetzner. The servers at this hosting company have a public IP, let's say, A.B.C.D/255.255.255.x. Additionally, one can order extra IPs like below: 1) additional subnet (let's say X.Y.Z.0 / 28) 2) single IP (let's say, E.F.G.H) With additional subnet, assigning the IP to libvirt guest is simple: - assign X.Y.Z.1 on the host - assign X.Y.Z.2

how do you manage printers on workstations?
How do you manage printers on Windows workstations? What I mean, suppose you have many classrooms, different printers (which sometimes change) in these classroms - how do you manage which workstation (or a group of them) will use which printer? So far I've been using WPKG for that - as I described here: http://wpkg.org/wiki/index.php/Printer_configuration But somehow I feel it

chan_capi on 2.6 - impossible?
Hello, I'm trying to get my Eicon Diva 2.01 PCI ISDN card working with Asterisk and was told that I still have some chance if I tried using chan_capi. I tried compiling it (chan_capi) on two systems running 2.6 kernels, but got lots of errors. Before I go investigating - is it possible to compile chan_capi on 2.6 kernels? Or does it work with 2.4 ones only? Tomek

site-site vpn setup..
SNMP is mainly used for monitoring, not _server_ automation. Also, it's inherently insecure for anything else - only SNMPv3 offers any kind of encryption, and it's DES - 56 bit only, and you can easily brute-force it on an average computer. If you could provide some serious articles about why is CLI insecure, I'd be interested to read. Tomasz Chmielewski https://lxadm.com On
