XP SP2 - winlogon.exe crashes
==============
The problem:
==============
I am in the testing stages of implementing a Samba domain.
My user is logging on to a standard win xp SP2 desktop, with the samba pdc,
supplying the credentials. The logon screen disappears and an "SAS window:
winlogon.exe - Application Error" box pops up on the Win XP screen. If I
click OK the machine reboots.
My user can log onto the Debian

Troubles setting up winbind for nt4 style samba domain
I'm getting these errors on starting up winbindd, and I am not sure if this
is normal in my situation, I have no trust accounts, I don't deal in AD
domains. Can somone tell me if I need to worry about this?:

AD member server setup with winbind idmap_rid - users prompted fo r password
Question:
How can I stop users from being prompted for a password?
Is secrets.tdb needed?
Do you think my problems are caused by having a different workgroup to
realm?
Problems:
I've gone over samba-by-example 7.3.4.1 on setting up idmap_rid with winbind
quite a few times now. I also checked what JHT has said in chapter 12. All
of it seems correct. However I get loads of this before the

samba4 openldap
I see that samba4 will have it's own LDAP database. How will the support
for OpenLDAP be? if anyone knows. Will I have the option to use OpenLDAP
still for all the new features so as to be able to use current apps that
use OpenLDAP already? If anyone has info regarding this, it would be
appreciated. Thanks.

ActiveLDAP and variable sub scope object writing
Anyone out there using ActiveLDAP have an idea how I can accomplish
creating an object one level below a known base where we have a variable
item in the middle?
That first sentence doesn''t even make sense to me. Here''s what I want
to do: I have a user class that I use for managing users. Each user
gets a ou called addressbook (which in turn will contain sub-entries,

vampire fails because of Debian smbldap-tools problem
Hi people,
As usual I've tried a number of different approaches to this problem
and can't figure it out. I don't have enough knowledge. Every time I do
net rpc vampire I get this crap spewed at me:

/usr/share/perl5/smbldap_tools.pm line 106, <CONFIGFILE> line 233.

ACL problem after upgrade from 3.0.24 to 3.4.5
Hello,
After upgrading from Debian Etch with samba 3.0.24-6etch10 to Lenny
with a backport of 2:3.4.5~dfsg-1 (with libtalloc2 2.0.1-1), i get a
fully working service but with a strange ACL bug : people can
create/delete/rename files, but not modify them (error "espace

Winbind idmap_rid - no members in "domain users" .....
On my ADS member server it doesn't show any members of GUESTSHIRE\domain
users:x:5513: using getent group
Is this normal behavior? If not any ideas how do I fix it?
Out of curiosity I shutdown winbind and samba, deleted all *.tdb files (
except secrets) and restarted them. Same thing happens. There are no users
in there... But if I check in AD users and computers my users are all
members

SIP Context Confusion
Okay, I am not understanding if I have this correct or not.
I have a requirement to allow guests into a PBX from different domains. However, I can not allow the guests into the default context because each domain has its own IVR. So I end up setting the domain context. I also need to provide separate contexts for different sip users (different dial groups). Small system, few users, so it

Using parameters in lpq command conflicts with background lpq
I have an application than makes use of the "lpq command" and uses the %U parameter in the command string. The application returns a personalized queue list based on the value of %U. This technique worked well in older versions of Samba (circa RedHat 8), but I have run into some trouble with Samba 3. The issue appears to be twofold.
1) The lpq command is now run from the

Problems while running lpq but lpr works... (samba bug?)
Hi,
I am using samba samba-1.9.18p10 quite happily on a FreeBSD-STABLE
system.
The printing works (the paper comes out of the printer) but when I
examine the printer queue on the Windows machine, it is always empty
(even if the printer is offline).
By turning on the debugging I saw the follwing output in the logfile:
Running the command `lpr -r -s -P kyo /var/spool/samba/mobifi.n23036'

background lpq update not working
I'm using several 'netbios aliases' with my server, only one of them
offers the printers.
In this enviroment, the new background lpq update, indroduced in 3.0.6,
does not work correctly.
I think, this happens, because the sending and the receiving process has
different lists of services, so the service number could not correctly
recognized.
As a workaround, i changed

Printing issue: lpq command
Dear Samba Printing gurus,
I've got Samba 2.2.8 feeding a commercial unix print spooler where users get
differing views of print queues according to their "user class". Basically
"operator" types see everything while lowly "users" can only see their own
jobs. It doesn't appear to be possible to get this effect reliably via Samba
because when an operator

Odd LPQ behavior in 3.0.x
Here is what I'm seeing after upgrading to 3.0.x:
1) Jobs no longer properly report their status, using LPRng's lpq. I see,
instead, no listing for status and a listing for number of pages in the
job. While that is also useful information, it does not allow me to act on
jobs as I'd like to (resume/pause/etc).
2) Basically EVERY job that has ever printed via Samba on that printer

and i'd like to see the print queue of cups from the windows client.(Xp

Iv'e tried many things:
