LDAP mailing list for ldapsam people
People, I came to Samba 3 or 4 weeks ago and now have a successful ldapsam 3.0.11 PDC installation for 1150+ users (around 80 Win 2000 and XP workstations) running together with a DHCP server as an "afterthought" service on a RHAS3 NAS server. I adopted/adapted my already existent Openldap (2.2.17) DSE at that site) and wrote to this list about my experiences. For example I

OT Windows policy question
List, Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself, were also a pre. Now for something completely different: High school in Amsterdam Netherlands: - RHAS3 - Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug reports keep

Compile on RHAS/RHEL3?
List, both on RHAS3 update3, update 4, Samba source code 3.0.9 thru 11 gives SIGSEGVs on make check. Installing the buggers and trying to run them gives the same. *THOUGH*. The Red Hat beta 3.0.9 srpm at fr2.rpmfind.net comples and runs "like a little sun" ("net als een zonnetje", in Dutch). Anyone compiled Samba 3.0.11 on Red Hat RHAS3/RHEL3? Not "how", just

Unix to SMB Password Sync using PAM
Hello, I would like to configure PAM to sync Unix passwords to Samba passwords. When I add a new Unix user or change an existing Unix user's password, I want the same password to be stored in /etc/smbpasswd. I'm trying to follow these instructions: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/pam.html#id2606200 It sounds like this is what I want to do: "A sample

Means "acclaim" in both Norwegian languages (there are new official rules out today for writing both of the 2 Indo-European Norwegian languages). What made me write this acclaim is the number of postings I've seen about Samba's instability - i.e. run-away processes, profiles going wrong, ACL problems and more. My (high school) site with around 80 w2k workstations, of which

machine uid range
Is it possible to configure Samba so that when a new Windows machine joins the Samba domain it will have a UID in a certain range? I'd like the machine accounts to have a different range than user accounts. Thanks, Charles

RedHat EL 3 rpm spec file and samba 3.0.14a?
Is the RedHat RPM spec file included with the samba-3.0.14a.tar.gz source files compatible with RedHat EL 3? In other words, are the locations for the various support directories (/var/lib/samba, /var/cache/samba, etc.) the same between the RedHat EL 3 version of samba (currently stuck at 3.0.9, I think) and the official samba.org <http://samba.org> versions? I would like to upgrade my

Samba and Windows ACL Issue
Hi all got a bit of and odd problem with ACL. Ive read up on a few bits in the samba howto and read some threads on here about it. Im not sure if this is a bug, something ive not done, doing wrong etc so anyone that could shed some light on it that would be great. Basically the windows box handles all user account processing and during creating a script for all this it will attempt to change the

Hi, Last week I activate some script that use smbclient on my test server (RedHat EL 3). But when this script run, the kernel make a panic and display a Out of Memory (OOM). The first time, the process was killed is nscd, after I upgraded to kernel 2.6.11 and friday to 3.0.14a (before I use 3.0.13). Now, it's the smbclient process which is killed by kernel. I don't know if it's a

'username map' --> password(s)
Hello. One of the advertised uses of the 'username map' smb.conf parameter is: 'to map multiple users to a single username so that they can more easily share files.' This sounds great, & is what I've wanted to do more than once. However, there is the issue of the username mapping taking place before the authentication. This requires the individual users to give a

LDAP shared files error
I am installing Samba 3.0.14a on Whitebox Linux 3.0 with Openldap 2.2.24. Openldap is working well and we can query the entries that we have in our addressbook. I have installed Samba from source. The configure, make and make install appear to go okay. When I try to start Samba with /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd -D I ge the following error /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd: error while loading shared

File listing problems in 3.0.13
Over the weekend I upgraded my IRIX servers to 3.0.13 and have found many strange issues regarding the creation of new folders. When I attempt to add a new folder through the Windows side I get an immediate error dialog box stating "You may not be able to access file created in the folder X:\New Folder." When I select to continue the folder is created, looking on the IRIX side the

Linux Samba 3.0.12 + acl (ext3) =============================== When upgrading from 3.0.11 to 3.0.12 ACL's do not seem get used anymore. We are using the inherit acls options for both maps and files. using printer on linux from windows
I am at my wits end. I have a brother hl1440 laser which I have working with Linux under cups, but I cannot get it working with samba and seen by a Windows XP system. I already have disk shares working properly. The printers name under cups is 1440. I want it's Windows printing to be done by the Windows driver. All the docs I have found online all seem to assume you already are a

Non-algorithmic RIDs
When I set up my initial users for the Samba domain i did not realize that RIDs were supposed to be dynamic. I was creating the user as a posixAccount in LDAP, and then adding the Samba elements via a script that I wrote. Their RIDs are the same as their UID. For instance if I have a user with uidNumber 1036, her SID would be <domain-SID>-1036. This is fine except for idmapping for

Tracking down a Samba problem under load
We use Samba as an interop file sharing solution for the ClearCase version control system. Unfortunately we have run into a problem after a recent upgrade to RedHat Enterprise 3. This problem occurs both with the RedHat included 3.0.9-1.3E.3, and a custom compile of the latest 3.0.14a direct from Samba. The symptoms are: under high load, such as during a build, new samba processes will

Guest user?
Hello all, Am trying to set up a guest account for employees from other offices to come in the office to login and do stuff. I want to block access to all public drives so this is what I've done: Consider the SAMBA server in Office A and I want to create a guest account so that people from Office B and C can access. There is a public drive that everyone in Office A can edit, and a drive
