location of roaming profile
Why is it more secure to create a separate share for storing user profiles? I've tested using: [global] logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U [profiles] path = /var/lib/samba/profiles And this works fine. But, why not just put the profile in the home directory? I can see that a user might save a file on the desktop and then not be able to find it. When I previously used roaming profiles on a

Roaming profiles and accounts
Hi all, I've managed to install an ubuntu server as PDC, everything is working fine. However, i've got a few questions regarding profile ( M$ XP ) and unix accounts. 1. Roaming profile : I believed that when logging off a computer, user's profile was moved back to the server. But i can still find one. Is there anything to do for the profile not to be stored on pc ? 2. An account

[OT] DeleteRoamingCache=1 doesn't work
I have a Samba server which I set so that Windows clients have roaming profiles. It works but when the user logs off, his personal folder in C:\Documents and Settings remains there, although i created the key DeleteRoamingCache (as a DWORD) in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon and set it to 1. It seems a problem with the Windows client, but I'm not

Roaming Profiles & oplocks problems
I'm running FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE with Samba 3.0.20 configured as a PDC serving a small-ish network (10 XP hosts). My problem concerns roaming profiles - some XP clients take ages to logon and logoff. On doing some Googling I identified the 'profile acls' parameter as being a likely fix. However, I seem to have got myself into one of two scenarios: a) With 'profile acls'

PDC Multiple users
Hi list: I've been using samba+ldap as a PDC with roaming profiles for some time but recently I joined some machines to the domain wich are used by several users and then started the problems, the profiles loaded are not the ones owned by the users, I mean user1 loads the profile of the user2 and so on. I'm using Debian Etch (stable) with samba 3.0.24. Any Help Thanks Harol Hunter

Roaming Profiles
I'm mulling over the idea of replacing my Win 2k MS AD using Samba. But I'd like to retain roaming profile capability for all my users. Based on your experience is it stable enough to implement for a production environment? I have only 30 using Win 2k Pro and some XP. What are the pit falls I need to look out for? Thank you! Joe

Domain Users and smbldap-useradd
I noticed that when I create users with smbldap-useradd, the default group is "Domain Users". Is this the best user/group default setup for Samba/LDAP? I'm more familar with the unix user/group setup like max/students or max/faculty. Does the user group have to be "Domain Users" when using Samba? Thanks, Yasee smbldap-useradd -m -a username (where the username is

cannot locate roaming profile
Hi all. I've just installed samba-3.0.1-rc1 as a PDC and I can add computers ( win2k ) to the domain, but when users log on, they get an error: ... windows cannot locate your roaming profile ... or words to that effect. My smb.conf is: # Global parameters [global] workgroup = NUS server string = Samba Server %v bind interfaces only = true interfaces =

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All, I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this? Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but others continuing to use a roaming profile? We

More roaming profile-Windows XP Data
Hello, I have a Samba 3.0.2a PDC that I have joined server Windows XP machines to. Joining the domain was painfully enough, but now I am having problems with roaming profiles. We initially thought the problem was intermittent, but we finally figured out that if the same user logs in again and again the roaming profile is found and login proceeds normally. When a second user attempts to

roaming profile does not work for "Domain Admins"
Hello list, I am facing an issue which I cannot explain myself. The roaming profiles don't work for users that are members of the group "Domain Admins". The [profiles] share on the member server was configured exactly as explained on the wiki for roaming profiles. It works like a charm for all domain users, *BUT*: if a user is member of the group "Domain Admins" it

Roaming profile & f-secure problem
Hi, are there any know problems with f-secure scanner and roaming profiles? We have a lot of users with problems syncing their roaming profile from the domain server. It seems to be a problem with f-secure's on-access scanning (may be timeout problem?). Some users have to login three or four times, before getting their roaming profile and not the default profile. System: 3.0.24-6etch9

cannot locate roaming profile
I've just edited smb.conf to make it a PDC on my SuSE 9.1 machine. I can add other machines to the domain but when I try to log on, I get the message "Windows cannot locate your roaming profile...blah blah" My config file is below. # smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full commented # version at /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/examples/smb.conf.SuSE # Date:

Is there a way to support both local and roaming profile with one server / domain?
Recent list messages got me thinking... Is there a way to support both local and roaming profile with one server / domain? As I understand it, the "magic" line that tells Samba not to do roaming profiles is the smb.conf line: logon path = Which the line must exist, and must be set to null. But that is in the global section. So is there a way to support both local and roaming...

Roaming Profile problems
Hi, we are using samba 3.0.10-17 with openlddap 2.2.6-37.22 as backend. We use roaming profiles, but because of problems with different operating systems and the profile size, we want to use locale profiles. I tried to change logon path in smb.conf in an emty string, but no changes, if I delete this entry in smb.conf, samba use a default value and this is on the server. So I tried to change
