backup LDAP
does winbind have the capability to have a backup idmap backend via ldap? ie: idmap_backend = ldap://primary idmap_backend = ldap://secondary I know this syntax is not allowed but I'm wondering if anybody sees this as a usable feature. I apologize ahead of time if this is not the catalyst of a relevant discussion. Thanks all....

Problems when upgrading to samba 3.0.14
Hi all, We had a Debian sarge box with samba version 3.0.7 and worked ok. When we upgraded to the new stable version in Debian (3.0.14a) we noticed that the samba daemon (smbd) did'nt bind to its port (139) when running in daemon mode. When running with inetd, it binds de port but don't "pass" the connection to the samba demon... There is any big change

winbind rfc2307 mapping not "correct"
IMHO the option "winbind nss info = rfc2307" does not fully conform to the rfc2307 spec to generate user and group data and is thus "incorrect". The way it is currently done does solve one issue related to group membership mapping, but if I understand the way permissions are checked it is a non-issue. I think it is broken in the following 2 ways: 1. to generate the GID of

Fix passwd/shadow/group files?
I've been copying old passwd/shadow/group files from system to system for ages across different distributions/updates and would like to get them back in sync with each other so the system tools will work. Now they hang like: #userdel irose hangs forever, syslog says: Jul 12 11:19:32 newftp userdel[30335]: delete user `irose' Jul 12 11:19:32 newftp userdel[30335]: delete `irose'

[LLVMdev] Vectors in structures

The mangling requirement doesn't require you to meet it in any particular way as long as you end up with the right strings. I.e. the mangling requirement places no requirements at all on the implementation, outside of mangled

ID mapping with SFU not setting shell
Hi, I'm trying to use SFU to set user IDs, shells, etc. but I can't work out the right magic - it always seems to use default template shell and home directory (but the UID seems correct) The global section of my smb4.conf looks like so: # Global parameters [global] log level = all:2 netbios name = GATEWAY2 realm = BEGER.COM.AU server role = active

SFU UID Mapping
Hi Everyone, I'm trying to set up a central home storage area with Samba for our PC and Mac clients. I thought that the most logical (ie. easy) way to do this would be to have Samba take care of the Windows connectivity and use NFS for the Macs. But for this to work I need to drag over the UIDs from Services For Unix which I have read is possible on Samba 3.0.20+ Joined Samba to the Win2k3

New ADS infrastructure with winbind - Which is the best ID-mapping: IDMAP_RID or IDMAP LDAP with ADS + SFU schema ?
A question for the best winbind SID-UID/GID mapping in our situation: I'm building a new infrastructure with Windows 2003SP1 ADS Domaincontrollers and some Debian Servers (File: Samba+NFS; Mail; Web; ....) and varios XP and Debian Clients. After reading Chapter 12. (Identity Mapping) in the Samba-HOWTO is IDMAP_RID in couple with winbind an easy way to solve the problem with syncr.

Using samba4 with AD and rfc2307 - what are the *current* practices?
I would like to get samba4 working with AD and rfc2307 attributes, while allowing the nice remote management available via samba4. Using sernet-samba packages on 4.1.3-7.el6.x86_64 CentOS 6. I have samba4 configured as follows: krb5.conf: [libdefaults] default_realm = MAIN.ADLAB.NETDIRECT.CA dns_lookup_realm = true dns_lookup_kdc = true ticket_lifetime = 24h renew_lifetime = 7d forwardable =

net ads join on AIX 5.2 - Mission Impossible ?
Hi all, is it possible at all to get Samba 3 on AIX 5.2 to join a Win 2003 Domain natively ? All the precompiled versions do not have AD Support and having AIX krb5 installed (let alone using --with-ads)is enough to make a compile run fail - both 3.0.14 and 3.0.20rc2. Might Heimdal solve this ? Has ANYONE got a working installation ? Solving this would make quite a difference to my current life,
