Nitrobit problems
I'm having some problems with Nitrobit Group Policy that appear to be Samba-related. (Nitrobit is a software product that lets you use AD-style Group Policies on a Samba domain. It stores your policies in a Samba share then processes them at startup just as an AD GPO would be processed.) I've run into numerous failures with various portions of the GPs over the last few days, and the

Roaming Profiles Poledit
You can set the type of Profile by using the control Panal system application to set the type to local. Anyway this is probably not the main intention in handling profiles: Aim: 1. Exclude some files like tmp or temporary internet file 2. Include desktop or personal Therefore you can use (to exclude) the poledit: double click on the user in poledit and as far as I remember under

POLEDIT replacement?
I've been reading about policies and the documentation says to grab poledit.exe from the NT SP6a file. There are many policy settings that are not available via this tool. Isn't there something newer that could be used to create the .pol file needed by samba to implement policies? Or will this only be available with samba4?

NT poledit.* & common.adm & winnt.adm & windows.adm
I've googled my brains out trying to find the "latest" NT 4.0 System Policy Editor files: POLEDIT.CNT POLEDIT.EXE POLEDIT.HLP COMMON.ADM (NT & W9x) WINNT.ADM (NT) WINDOWS.ADM (W9x) I only have dialup access, and it will take me a zillion days to download SP6 for NT so I can extract the above files. Can any one point me to where I can D/L those six (or 0110) files? Thanks

Samba/LDAP - using Poledit for security templates.
Hi samba gurus, I have a successful install of samba/LDAP (on FC5) and am looking at applying security templates for different groups. I had this successfully working on my old RH9 box running samba (but not using LDAP). Using poledit, I created groups (sales, it, etc) that were the same as my linux groups, and created a Ntconfig.POL file. Referring to this article for use on poledit.exe and

Question about poledit.exe and priorities
Hi, I am using poledit.exe in my samba domain. Unfortunately I am a little confused about if and when different settings will take affect. In my case I configured Domain Users with certain restrictions. I do not want the Domain Admins to inherit the same restrictions , so I added the group of the Domain Admins in poledit and in the list of priorities they ar at the top. Does this

Problem joining 3.6.22 domain when a service connects to a share before logon
Hi everyone. We have recently come across an interesting issue after upgrading from 3.6.16 to 3.6.22. Since we can't currently upgrade to 4.x and we have Win7 machines on site, we implemented a 3rd party product called "Nitrobit Group Policy" which has been working very well since last Summer. On startup, before the login prompt it connects to a share to read in the machine

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
I'm creating a deploy plan, for strict client policies (to comply to ISO standards and security) For mixed win 7 enterprise and win 10 enterprise on a Samba Active Directory. On the lookout if Samba would be any different towards client policies. I did some googling, and got pointed to old samba articles of 2007: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_System_Policies_with_Samba

OT Windows policy question
List, Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself, were also a pre. Now for something completely different: High school in Amsterdam Netherlands: - RHAS3 - Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug reports keep

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
So only for old NT4 style PDC - BDC environment one needs poledit. While AD's (with virtual pdc role servers) can use the MMC.? We got a pure Samba AD environment and thus it should work. Be it that we might not have all mmc templates (not yet checked that). Thanks Viktor. -----Original message----- From: Viktor Trojanovic?<viktor at troja.ch> Sent: Wednesday 21st October 2020

Group Policy on Samba / Linux / OpenLDAP or another directory (yes, you can)
Heya, I'm a trainer for Red Hat, preparing to teach a course on nifty directory services, and have been doing a little research on related matters. I stumbled upon last weeks thread re: group policy on Linux / Samba machines and thought you folks might be interested in the following. A company called Nitrobit has a group policy implementation that works in conjunction with Samba and any

Storing GPC and GPT
Is possible to store the Group Policy Container (GPC) on a OpenLDAP? Is possible to store the Group Policy Template (GPT) on a Samba share? The idea is to manage windows desktop policies using the new Win200x GPOs without using an Active Directory. Any other hints? Roaming profiles and accounts
Hi all, I've managed to install an ubuntu server as PDC, everything is working fine. However, i've got a few questions regarding profile ( M$ XP ) and unix accounts. 1. Roaming profile : I believed that when logging off a computer, user's profile was moved back to the server. But i can still find one. Is there anything to do for the profile not to be stored on pc ? 2. An account
