smbldap-populate failure
dear list,
I'm trying to migrate nt4 to samba3, and have two issues at the moment.
First is: I'm getting two (small?) errors using smbldap-populate on my ldap
database. At first I tried ignoring this, but now also rpc net vampire
complains. (maybe because of this..?)
This is the output of smbldap-populate:

winbind error - Conversion error: Illegal multibyte sequence(æ~S^\^H)
Hi there
I hope that you understand by English. I'm a Rooky and don't know Samba very well. I installed the newest version 3.0.10 on my SuSE Linux 7.3 machine and it works very well. I make User- and Passwort-Requests with Samba (winbind) for the Squid-Proxy. Now always work's well but I get the following error message from log.winbind:

Using idmap_rid backend, cannot browse home directory from XP
Samba version is 3.0.10 on Gentoo linux. I am trying
to use idmap_rid backend in a Windows AD environment,
the Linux PC acting only as a domain member. I am
using idmap_rid because I need UID/GID predictability.
I can log in to console correctly, and it shows the
right user and the "Domain Users" as the group.
When I use default winbind TDB, I can browse the home
directory from an XP

Samba 3.0.2a problems on Solaris 8
Tried to upgrade our Samba 2.2.8a domain controller (Solaris 8) to Samba
3.0.2a. Compiled using gcc 3.3.2, linked to libiconv-1.8, popt-1.7 and
cups-1.1.20.
I shut down the Samba 2.2.8a. Removed everything in var/locks. Did a
"make install" to install 3.0.2a, then restarted Samba. My smb.conf is
basically the same as 2.2.8a with "domain admin group" removed.

winbind group problem
My Samba server is a domain member to a Win2k ADS domain. I have a domain
group where some members of the group can access a particular share, while
others cannot. If the user tries to login from a different system, the
problem still exists. Additionally, the user can log into other shares. I
have verified this with two different groups. It seems like the system

sssd problems after dc1 is no longer online
Hi all,
I hope that this request for help will be the last one, for a while to
come. Today, sernet support helped my sort out our DC mess, and they did
a great job. However, sssd no longer works, and I hope someone here can
help out.
We used to have DC1, DC2 and DC3. DC1 was the classic-upgraded, first,
'original' DC, and had to be shutdown, unfortunately. So only DC2 and

samba domain vs linux network security
Dear list,
I don't know if it is appropriate to ask here, if it is not, please
point me to the right lists (suse-linux-e..?)
I am using a samba pdc right now, and we want to start using linux for
(some) workstations as well. I have exported /home to my subnet, to
allow access via nfs. (so you will have your home directory available
both under windows and linux)
Under windows, you have

machine accounts question
Hi,
I can be wrong but for me UID and GID are UNIX concepts. If your
workstations are Windows systems, those UID/GID are not necessary.
This does not address your issue but it could help to understand things and
to avoid searching in the wrong direction...
Cheers,
mathias

Winbind 3.2.3 error with trusted domains
With Samba on Debian Lenny joined to a Server 2003 Native domain that has two incoming non-transitive trusts (users in my domain can authenticate to the foreign domains, but their users cannot authenticate to us) winbind is taking a very long time to authenticate or list users the first time it is used after starting. Winbind blocks for four to five minutes, and anything that touches winbind will

Unable to logon using ssh when changing password server
Hello @ll,
I'm having the following problem on a RHEL 3 Update 3, with the latest
official release packages for RHEL 3.

samba-3.0.9-1.3E.13.2
When changing the ip adress in /etc/krb5.conf to use the W2003 domain
controller for kerberos authentication instead of the current W2000 it
becomes impossible the login to this server using ssh.

multiple dns forwarders
Hi,
To make our AD more robust, I'd like to provide more than one dns
forwarder, like for example:
dns forwarder = 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4
However, this seems to break dns resolution completely (and without
logging errors in the logs!):
# Host test.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
With only one forwarder things work:
$ test.com has address 208.64.121.161
Am I really allowed to specify only one

I just looked over your previous messages.
I think the best if that you setup sssd again, so keep the setup as it was.
I just upgraded my sernet samba 4.2.7 to latest 4.2.9
And from that point i upped to 4.3.6 ( debian samba, a rebuild from debian sid to jessie )
This was without problems, but im not using sssd.
Maybe someone with sssd knowledge can help more why you have sid differendes.

problem that I fighting is with an M$ ISA Server 2000, that do ntlm

lost the connection with the domain and does not authenticate users until

azure ad provisioning | password hashes sync
Hi,
Meanwhile we have discovered this bug report:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10635
where Andrew is asking to test again with modern versions as a first
step towards a solution.
So I will start upgrading our DCs to latest in de coming period, to see
if that helps anything.
Strange also that the reporter of bug 10635 is seeing all kinds of error
messages logged in azure, and

Do you have any policy in the User tree in the GPME in that GPO? If you
never defined one, then the file is missing. Try e. g.
