samba 3 + DNS(SRV records) + Active Directory Clients
Hai ,
I am new to samba. I have configured samba 3 as PDC
and when I add win2k client into my DC, the client
says 'unable to find 'mydomain' name , may be due to
DNS Issue. I have also configured bind as dns server
and I have the forward & reverse records for
'mydomain'.
I read that I need to add some SRV records for active
directory clients(win2k/winxp). But I

Samba4 on hosted root server
Hi list
I am trying to install Samba4 on a hosted server but haven't been
successful yet.
Environment:
Hosted Server with official .net domain. OS is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server
64-bit. DNS for domain is registred with provider's name servers.
Installed Samba with Bind backend following the how-to on

Samba as AD travails
Many (many) hours later, I'm finally throwing in the towel and seeking help.
I have read everything I can find on the internet to no avail to get past
my issues. I have to say, I'm very disappointed in the general quality and
fragmentation of information on this topic. Samba isn't a turn-key
solution as an AD by any stretch of the imagination. I've run the gamut so

Mates,
I have been watching a developing problem over the past few weeks. Most
likely a M$ patch to XP that has caused problems. What happens is that XP
clients try to open the standard "File" -> "Open" dialog (like in word, or
whatever) and the file open dialog hangs and stops responding for 15 seconds
or so. I have

I take it 192.168.127.129 is your AD DC.

Windows 7 samba 4 domain join problem
I stood up a samba 4 (4.0.9) Active Directory domain controller on a Red
Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 server, configured in accordance with the Samba
AD DC HOWTO <https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO> , and
tailored to the domain name I want. I'm trying to join a Windows 7
Enterprise Edition client to the domain. Windows responds with "Your

After joining domain, Samba uses the workgroup name, not the FQDN when running the net ads command
Checked with the network guy... yes, the main DNS is indeed dnsmasq. He has
a delegation though, so any query for WINDOWS.corp.XXX.com winds up going
to to the correct place:
domain=/windows.corp.XXX.com/192.168.127.141
domain=/windows.corp.XXX.com/192.168.112.4
The DC's (192.168.127.141, 192.168.112.4) are indeed running DNS (I can dig
at them). Would it just be easier to make this host

The RPC server is unavailable on Samba 4 clients
Hi,
I used to upgrade/migrated samba 3.3.10 to samba 3.4.17 with LDAP backend
in place, while upgrading the CentOS from 5.5 to 5.9. In place to retain
the trust relationship.
The users can able to login without re-authentication from existing
machines. Tested 3 XPs, and 3 Win7 but it takes 5-8 mins to login compared
to 1 win7 that was re-connected (disconnected from domain, restart, then

DNS replication only working one way
I'm hoping this is the last issue I run into with bringing this new DC
online.
DNS replication is currently only working in one direction, from my old DC
to my new DC. Items added or changed in the RSAT of my new DC don't ever
make it over to the old DC.
I have turned up samba logging on each side to 3, and you can see the logs
below from the time I created a record on the new DC

Thank you Rowland for the help so far. I followed the directions on that
page very precisely. I was able to join the domain, but the RPC stuff still
doesn't work and I'm still having the same problem. The actual root problem
is that up to this point, winbind works for about a day or so then I start
getting NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED.
Anyway, after the join, winbind works right now:

WinXP3: NBNS query: non-exist; Wireshark: "'NB ?'<00>" & "'NB ?'<20>"
I'm getting some odd queries from a WinXPSP3 client to an older samba
(3.2.0-24) Domain & File server running on linux kernel (2.6.27.19).
The client seems to be querying for a netbios name <literal-question mark>
followed by binary 0 (<00>) to the DomainServer, or Broadcasting the query
with the '?' followed by a space <20>.
