Win2K3 ADS and Samba 3.0.1: Cannot access shares even with IP
Regarding the problem where you cannot view shares using the hostname (netbios) of the server, but can if you use the IP address: I can view my Samba shares from a Win2000 server using the IP, but I cannot access them. Double-clicking on the shares in Windows Explorer results in the following error: '\\<ipaddr>\Share is not accessible. The network name cannot be found.' The smbd

samba start: not working in /etc/init.d/smb ???
Hi everybody, This may be a stupid question, but I really don't get it. When I restart my Linux box (occasionnaly / rarely), samba is not working from my Windows station. I can't connect to the samba drive. If I do /etc/init.d/smb restart, it doesn't work either. After many unsuccessfull problem determination, I found that there is two ways to correct this: 1- kill smbd -D process

tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
Hello everyone! I've searched the archives and seen this problem crop up a couple of different times. None of the solutions I've found seemed to have worked. Here's the synopsis: I've recently installed FC4 and samba shares for home directories should work right out of the box. Default settings, etc... I get this error: sohmc@bart:~$ smbclient //127.0.0.1/sohmc added

tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME
Let me start off by apologizing for this rambling post. I have been working on this problem all day and have not gotten anywhere. This is my first time working with samba and I have been tasked to set up a share that does not require a password for access. I have been tinkering with the configuration file but I cannot get it to work. Here is my current smb.conf file that I have: global]

How do I create the samba user
I used samba on FC3 with no problems. I recently upgraded to a new computer AMD 64 X2 and I installed 64 bit FC4. Samba seems to be mostly configured correctly, except that it appears as though somehow for the installation I do NOT have a samba user. If I had to guess, I would say that I have version 3.0.14a-2 for x86_64. I logged in from a windows computer and I was able to look at my home

Shares all empty after upgrade to 3.0.14a-fc4
Hi, Hoping you can help. I've updated my samba server (PDC) from 3.0.10 to 3.0.14a as part of updating from FC3 to FC4. I now find I cant see inside any of the shares, even though I can see the share names themselves and the directories are quite readable to Linux processes. So, e.g. I can see that I have a share "Users", but not the contents of it. With one exception all shares

samba ldap group shares don't work anymore
Dear list, after 2 weeks running Samba 3.0.26a-3.5-1616-SUSE-SL10.3 without any problems, access to shares with dedicated group rights stopped working. Shares with user rights are still allright. New shares are working. Only those 2 weeks old, with all their groups not. Smbclient quits with: tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME Smbd Log shows this: [2008/02/23 10:25:37, 3]
