CentOS 6.3 - KDE login screen configuration problems
Hello, We generally use CentOS for some servers, and so do not use a GUI interface. However, I have recently installed CentOS 6.3 onto a PC with KDE. I am familiar with KDE as I use it with Fedora for my work PC. The problem is that we would like to configure the login screen, so that it does not show the user list, that it does not allow the shutdown or reboot commands (from the login screen),

greeter-show-remote-login on debian
Hello, I need the possibility to login to other machines on my network. With kdm it works by choosing "Remote Login" from a menu in the greeter. I would prefer not to use kdm. ;-) I saw that the option "greeter-show-remote-login" should do that for lightdm. I work with a debian "wheezy/testing" system and installed the following packages from the

KDE login screen configuration problems
Sorry to be so slow in responding. I've done what you suggested. I created /etc/sysconfig/desktop and entered "$DISPLAYMANAGER=KDM". I rebooted but there was no change. GDM is still being used. Any other suggestions? mw ======================== Just create the file /etc/sysconfig/desktop and put in it: DESKTOP=KDM I believe it's DESKTOP - you can dbl check /etc/X11/prefdm

What repo did this rpm come from? rpm-VVa failures on new install
Here is a list of files that I have not (knowingly) modified that do not pass rpm verification immediately after I installed centos 5.3. I am not really sure what this means - are the packagers sending out sloppy rpms, or is something going around modifying stuff? Other than the texmf stuff, the list seems to consist entirely of config files. Does yum or rpm or something do some instant

prefdm still unfinished?
After testing the beta of CentOS 5, i was a little surprised to notice that the display manager part of the prefdm file in /etc/X11 was exactly like in CentOS 4 / RHEL4 and previous versions including RH9. it reads like this (added line numbers for reference): 14 # Run preferred X display manager 15 preferred= 16 if [ -f /etc/sysconfig/desktop ]; then 17 . /etc/sysconfig/desktop 18 if [

CentOS 7 auto mounting non authenticated users
Hi, I mentioned this issue in reply to "CentOS 7.1 user login screen can't scroll up/down" but heard nothing. We authenticate using NIS and our home directories are mounted via NFS. Once a user logs into a CentOS7 workstation their username appears in the login screen 'user list'. I have disabled the list but notice that after a reboot running mount -l shows all

Is it time to re-factor yet :^)
Or how to avoid the whirlwind. Greetings everyone. I observe the coding of lighdm is well under way and I'm thinking the pressure to meet the releases of 11.11 is probably going to build without bounds. Is there time now to consider the inclusion of some of the more offbeat use cases? 1: Headless(no monitor, keyboard, or monitor) 2: True headless(no video card) but Xvfb. 3: No X but only

Hi everybody, I have set up a Linuxbox with Samba and security=server in smb.conf. So far this works, the users are authenticated on the NT-Server as they shuold but then they´re mapped to guest user. When I create the User on my linux box with the same username as on the NT-Server it works OK, no matter what password this user has on the linux box. The real problem is, that I don´t like the Idea

centos6 not using /etc/gdm/custom.conf
In CentOS5 you were able to create a server section in /etc/gdm/custom.conf such as [server-Standard] name=Standard server command=/usr/bin/Xorg -br -audit 4 -s 15 chooser=false handled=true flexible=true priority=0 After this change, Xorg would run with the -br -audit 4 -s 15 options. Unfortunately in CentOS6 this is not the case. It completely ignores anything put into custom.conf as far
